Obvious error by England here. Only three pace bowlers whereas Australia have five. It's like we've completely ignored the recent weather.

Steven Smith brings up his 50 in 71 balls. That was his fifth four and 46th 50-plus score in ODIs - 12 centuries among those. It's his seventh 50 against England in this format.

    Aus 157-4published at 31 overs

Hello, Alex Carey goes after Jacob Bethell, hitting him for a four and a six.

A cover drive beats Brydon Carse to the boundary, with the England fielder sliding into the camera frame a second or so after the ball has reached the ropes.

Caret then lofts the penultimate ball of the over down the ground and into the stands for his first six of the innings.

It's not been easy out there so a gritty innings from Steve Smith. England's seamers have been outstanding but it looks a little easier now the spinners are on.

  5. 50 runs

50 for Steve Smithpublished at 30 overs

    Aus 145-4

    There's Smith's half century!

Jacks drag-downs one down with the penultimate ball of the over and Smith pulls it away to the square leg boundary for four, bringing up the landmark from 71 balls.

He fends off the following delivery to close the over.

  6. Aus 139-4published at 29 overs

Alex Carey arrived at the crease following Labuschagne's dismissal, and he picks up two here with a bottom edge while attempting a sweep off Bethell.

The ball beats Smith and runs away.

A long way to go of course, but those two quick wickets have boosted England's chances significantly according to WinViz...

A little snifter of a chance there for Phil Salt, as Steve Smith dabs into the leg side.

The ball falls just wide of Phil Salt's scrabbling dive - I'm not really sure the catch was on, but it was a tentative shot from Smith.

That was always going to be a tough shot and it looks like it might have clipped his shoulder on the way through after hitting the bat. Marnus Labuschagne would be very disappointed because this wicket is starting to flatten out into a very nice batting surface!

Odd one, Marnus, not going to lie.

The Australian batter attempts the paddle shot and just scoops the ball off the top of his helmet, popping up for an easy grab for Jamie Smith, who runs back a few yards to complete the catch.

Lasbuschagne departs for a duck, and Australia face another rebuild job, albeit with Smith well set.

  11. Aus 131-3published at 27 overs

Marnus Labuschagne is the next man in for Australia, and he sees out the final two balls of Bethell's over.

A wicket maiden for the 20-year-old.

What made the wicket so good was that Will Jacks was just moved 15 feet back to kind of a weird shortish mid-on position. Cameron Green couldn't get the elevation and that's a big, big wicket for England.

    Green c Jacks b Bethell 42 (Aus 131-3)

    Bethell gets that breakthrough!

Cameron Green attempts to step down the pitch and club the England spinner down to the long-on boundary.

He doesn't quite get hold of it though, and instead picks out Will Jacks at a rather straight mid-on and he takes the catch at shin height.

A partnership of 84 comes to an end.

Thanks Tim - I do indeed have the answer to many questions, won my pub quiz by 23 points last night. A suitable Australian target didn't come up though - it may well depend on whether England can break this partnership.

Harry Brook brings in Will Jacks to attempt to break it and Cameron Green welcomes him by launching him down the ground for a one-bounce four, while Steve Smith follows that with a driven boundary through backward point.

It's been graft from Australia's batters so far as we reach the halfway point in their innings.

  16. Aus 120-2published at 25 overs

Jacob Bethell, bowling round the wicket, is pushing through his left-am spin and both Cameron Green and Steve Smith content to play with the turn and work the ball into the leg side.

Smith finishes the over with a lofted drive off the back foot which goes down to the fielder at long-on.

  17. Aus 113-2published at 24 overs

Harry Brook tosses the ball in the air a couple of times as he ponders field changes.

Brydon Carse continues to be busy as he approaches the crease as Australia take five singles off the over.

The most interesting of them was a big swing of the willow from Steve Smith, who toe-ends one behind.

  18. Aus 108-2published at 23 overs

Jacob Bethell is thrown the ball by Harry Brook. Will Australia target the 20-year-old left-arm spinner?

You bet they will. Cameron Green waits for a flatter one and then pummels it from deep in the crease to the mid-wicket boundary.

Steve Smith cuts the final delivery of Bethell's over for two.

  19. Aus 99-2published at 22 overs

Brydon Carse, pistons bulging, bustles into the crease looking to extract something out of the pitch. Not a man, you sense, who holds back while bowling.

A boundary-less over for the Aussies as Steve Smith, 30* off 50 balls, and Cameron Green, 26* off 32 balls, look to strengthen the foundation of the tourists' innings.

Right now, it's an interesting part of the game. I reckon Australia are feeling quite confident! They have established a partnership between Steven Smith and Cameron Green and we know how big Green can go. I am thinking Australia are looking at 330 or 340 here!
