Aaron Hardie delivers a decent second over, conceding three singles.

This partnership is now worth 76.

In a run chase like this, the first ball of an over is really important because if you can just pick up that boundary in the first, you put the bowler under a lot of pressure. Then they can just rotate the strike and you get eight or nine in the over.

  5. Eng 84-2published at 16 overs

    Jacks 39, Brook 34

Glenn Maxwell is introduced into the Australian attack and Harry Brook immediately lifts him for four through long-off.

The rest of the over is tighter, a trio of singles.

Drinks are coming onto the field.

    Thanks Tim.

Well, the worm has England ahead of the Australians at this stage of the game.

I place all my faith in the worm.

This has been a decent rebuild by England. Both Harry Brook and Will Jacks are riding their luck at times, but they are finding the boundary with some fine strokeplay as well.

Can they chase this down? Mike Peter is on hand to talk you through the middle chunk of this innings.

  8. Eng 77-2published at 15 overs

Aaron Hardie, born in Bournemouth of course, is into the attack for Australia.

His third ball to Harry Brook is too full and the England skipper plays the most stylish cover drive.

Beautiful backlift and perfectly timed from Brook, who watches the ball away along the carpet for four.

Eight runs off the over signal a bit of a change in momentum here.

I feel rotating the strike is key here. Will Jacks and Harry Brook have been able to do that so far and the boundaries have come as well for England.

  10. Eng 69-2published at 14 overs

Elegant from Will Jacks, who flicks Sean Abbott's third ball off his pads for four. He and Harry Brook run well, rotate the strike, and add three more in singles.

  11. Eng 62-2published at 13 overs

Harry Brook begins the over as he started it - with a boundary. This time Brook plays with a straight blade and whips Josh Hazlewood through mid-on for four.

That was a great pull shot by Harry Brook. It's almost Australian-esque in the way he just got on top of it.

  13. Eng 58-2published at 12.1 overs

    Target 305

Harry Brook waspishly pulls a short delivery from Josh Hazlewood square and there's a brave diving effort from Matthew Short near the boundary,

However, Short is unable to prevent the ball from going over and the ball dribbles over the rope. He's getting pelters from the Durham crowd.

  14. Eng 54-2published at 12 overs

Will Jacks is living a charmed life.

Sean Abbott angles one into Jacks and hits him high on the pad. There's a bold appeal by Australia and Mitchell Marsh strides towards his bowler to see whether it's worth a review, but decides against,

A couple of balls later and Jacks plays a drive and a thick edge races just past the diving Marsh at slip.

  16. Eng 47-2published at 11 overs

Josh Hazlewood has bowled five on the spin. He's gone wicketless but he's brought a decent level of control for Australia, offering little width.

Another poor start in the powerplay overs. Brendon McCullum will have his work cut out trying to solve the form of our openers. It seems no matter the combination, the new ball undoes them on a far too regular basis.

It looks like there's rain in the distance. That may be the only thing that can save England.

  19. Eng 45-2published at 10 overs

A late call for a no-ball from Sean Abbott gives England a free hit but Will Jacks can only dig out a yorker to pick up a single.

    End of the first powerplay.

Classic one-day batting that from Will Jacks! It looks like England are trying different things as I think the batters are a little more settle now.
