England want not just one, but two guys to make big, long innings here. If someone like Harry Brook can stand up and put his stamp on their innings, I've no doubt they can go close. Can they win? We'll have to wait and see!

  2. Eng 0-0published at 1 over

Phil Salt watchful at the start to left-arm quick Mitchell Starc, as he gets some movement through the air back in to the England right-handed opener.

Salt happy to defend and leave.

Right, Australia's players have just had a team huddle before running out into the field.

England openers Phil Salt and Ben Duckett are also out in the middle.

Mitchell Starc will bowl the first over for Australia.

Sky Sports have just played an interview with England Test captain Ben Stokes during the interval where he was asked about his injury situation.

Stokes suffered a hamstring injury while playing in The Hundred last month.

"I'm all good. I have my six-and-a-half week scan tomorrow and we'll know more from that, but I am feeling good," Stokes said.

"It was a hamstring tear which sneaked into my tendon. That's why it takes a week or two longer than a normal hammy. Rehab has gone really well so hopefully everything tomorrow gets the the all clear and start pushing it a bit more."

Asked whether he has a chance of bowling in the first Test against Pakistan in Multan which starts on 7 October, Stokes said: "I think that's you getting ahead of yourself. Obviously I've been six-and-a-half weeks now of just walking and doing stuff in the gym.

"There's a lot more than just my hamstring that I need to get back firing and working up again in terms of bowling, because you use everything, so I need to get that all right to make sure I don't do any damage to other parts of my body."

Had this lovely backdrop of Cowdray ruins when playing at Midhurst School. Not a castle, but lovely nonetheless!

It's an innings that lacked a bit of momentum from Australia as they kept losing wickets regularly. But any time you have a total in excess of 300, you feel pretty confident about your chances.

It feels to me like England have let Australia get 30 too many at the end there?

Clwb Criced Caernarfon on the banks of the Menai Straits, overlooked by the 13th century Edwardian castle is a stunning place to play cricket. Proud to call it my home ground.

Have been loving the castle cricket grounds, by the way.

We've been getting a fair messages suggesting Bamburgh Castle in Northumberland.

If you scroll back to 14:01 you'll see it was the very first entry we published.

WinViz has England as ever so slight favourites. Australia probably have the momentum, though.

    Thanks, Mike.

That feels about par, I think, even if England let Australia get away from them in the final 10 overs when the sun came out.

Right, England will need 305 in their chase.

Here's Timothy Abraham to talk you through the start of their innings.

  13. Aus 304-7published at 50 overs

A good last three balls from Potts, restricting Australia to three runs.

Sean Abbott faces for the first time from the final ball of the innings, knocking the ball down to long-on and hurrying back for two.

Alex Carey finishes unbeaten with a top score of 77, another fine effort at the back-end of the innings for his side, after his 74 at Headingley on Saturday.

Australia were 200-5 after 40 overs, they'll be very happy with 304-7.

  14. Aus 301-7published at 49.3 overs

Alex Carey edges away through an empty slip cordon for four to get off the mark straight away.

Potts follows with a wide, before Carey runs two to cover to bring up Australia's 300.

Alex Carey has not done much wrong today, but that's one you just had to go for. That's a big wicket though there's only five left to bowl, but when it's someone like Aaron Hardie who can hit big ones, you never know.

Hardie run out 44 (Aus 294-7)

    Whoops.

Alex Carey sweeps Matty Potts straight to Adil Rashid, Aaron Hardie charges straight down the track from the non-striker's end but his batting partner doesn't move.

It's an easy throw to the bowler to take the bails off.

Hardie departs for 44 from 26, the partnership worth 68 from 7.1 overs

Full toss from Archer and Hardie doesn't need asking twice, he heaves him away over mid-wicket from six.

That ends Archer's contribution, he's gone for 2-67 today.

It's a beautiful cricket shot! Aaron Hardie had the power to get Jofra Archer away square of the wicket.

  20. Aus 286-6published at 48.3 overs

Lovely shot from Aaron Hardie, an open-faced drive to beat the diving Jacob Bethell to the ropes at backward point.

Jofra Archer slaps his thighs in frustration.
