Some days you see it like a football, so 'they' say - and that was certainly true for Worcestershire's Adam Hose today as he smashed 266 off 253 balls against Hampshire.

Seven other batters also reached three figures, including his team-mate Jake Libby and Surrey pair Dom Sibley and Sam Curran.

It all adds further weight to the argument of those who believe using Kookaburra balls in June may be tilting the balance of the game too far one way.

    Sussex v Warwickshire 371-7

Kai Smith and Ethan Bamber survive the final over without alarm and will be back in the morning, when this match will remain just about in the balance.

The momentum has see-sawed through the day with Alex Davies (37) and Rob Yates (93) building a solid platform, and Sam Hain (87) and Ed Barnard (66) adding 151 for the fifth wicket.

But Sussex have hung in there, taking 3-15 early this afternoon and then 3-31 this evening to give themselves a chance when they resume in the morning, when the first hour feels crucial to the destiny of this match between two sides desperate to try and keep up with the title race.

    Derbyshire v Lancashire 367

Chris Green departed for 121 and Tom Bailey fell for 25 in the space of four balls as the Red Rose innings came to an abrupt halt.

There were less than three overs remaining in the day and as such that'll be stumps.

Derbyshire will reply in the morning, looking to strengthen their position in the promotion race, trying to remain unbeaten, at the very least.

Zak Chappell ended with 4-73 and bowled Keaton Jennings (106) and Green (121) in that number, after the visitors had recovered from 44-4 to 238-6 at one point.

    Rocchiccioli c Simpson b Robinson 4 (Sussex v Warwickshire 371-7)

Corey Rocchiccioli doesn't like it, but he has to go.

Ethan Bamber will join Kai Smith for the final over of the day.

  7. Close of play at the Kia Ovalpublished at 18:37 British Summer Time 29 June

    Surrey 407-3 v Durham

Durham captain Alex Lees won the toss and put Surrey in this morning, but it's been a day of toil for his side in the field.

Dom Sibley has batted right through for his 169 not out, with Sam Curran serving up a hundred of his own and Rory Burns and Dan Lawrence - who remains unbeaten on 58 - also churning out runs.

Surrey have four bonus points to Durham's one and the champions will feel confident of securing a fifth and amassing a sizeable total when they resume tomorrow.

The new Bears batter Corey Rocchiccioli has been struck on the lid by Ollie Robinson in the penultimate over of the day, which has required a check from the medical staff.

  10. Close of play at Southamptonpublished at 18:31 British Summer Time 29 June

    Hampshire v Worcs 456-3

A day Pears fans will likely remember for a long time, and one which Adam Hose and Jake Libby will never forget.

Libby won the toss and opted to bat on what turned out to be a placid deck, on a sunny day, with a Koorkaburra ball.

henry Nicholls fell in the fourth over for a 12-ball duck and Hashif Ali departed for a breexy 44 but that paved the way for Adam Hose to make a stunning 266 at better than a run a ball - the fourth highest ever score at the Utilita Bowl, with 31 fours and seven sixes along the way.

Libby ends the day unbeaten on 137 from 268 balls and with maximum batting points in the back pocket, two more than they had achieved in the eight previous matches this season combined.

Yet another half-century among the Surrey ranks as Dan Lawrence reaches 50 from 47 balls, with the home side nearing 400.

It's the third time Lawrence has been past 50 this season and it's very much foot on the accelerator for Surrey during these closing overs. Two left tonight.

    Dave Bracegirdle
    BBC Radio Nottingham commentator

    It's an even day.

If Somerset day go on and get up to 400 it'll look a very good score and if Notts get them out for less than 350 then I think they'll be very happy.

    Hose c Currie b Kelly 266 (Hampshire v Worcs 455-3)

A knock for the ages is over.

Dom Kelly has his maiden Championship wicket, finding the edge of Adam Hose' bat and offering Scott Currie a fine catch at fourth slip.

Hose came to the crease at 11:55 BST and scored 266 from 253 balls with 31 fours and seven sixes, more than doubling his career best of 111.

The third-wicket stand of 395 with Jake Libby is broken.

Durham's bowlers must wish they could put their feet up right now, but they have another five overs to deliver tonight.

  18. Close of play at Tauntonpublished at 18:16 British Summer Time 29 June

    Somerset 275-6 v Nottinghamshire

No damage done in the final over of play as Tom Banton reaches the close on 57 not out for Somerset after a competitive day's cricket between these two sides.

Division One leaders Notts started well as Brett Hutton and Mo Abbas nipped out three with the new ball, before James Rew (58) and Tom Abell (64) steadied the innings with a stand of 99.

Archie Vaughan helped add 71 with Banton, who was dropped in the slips on two, and has shown only flashes of his normally free-flowing style.

Despite that fielding lapse, Notts may feel that a couple of early wickets on the second morning and they could still bowl the home side out for under 350.

    Hampshire v Worcs 430-2

    Michael Carberry
Former Hampshire and England batter on BBC Radio Solent

There's maybe a little bit of fatigue creeping in now. It's been quite a warm day especially after this morning's session.

This is where you need to find that desire, that little bit of inner fight just to get you through. Recognise you've got to do that job for the team.

If you can get through this little phase now and be here tomorrow when it's expected to be another hot day, you can really bat Hampshire out of the game, really put them under pressure

  20. Close of play at Cardiffpublished at 18:12 British Summer Time 29 June

    Glamorgan v Gloucestershire 279-7

Glamorgan got rid of Zaman Akhter in the penultimate over of the day, lbw to Timm van der Gugten for 58 following a stand of 96 for the seventh wicket with James Bracey.

The visitors were earlier in some trouble after slumping from 140-2 to 148-5, and then 179-6 when Ben Charlesworth became spinner Mason Crane's third victim of the day.

But the reassuring Bracey has survived to the close and he will resume on 57 not out, with Gloucestershire still hopeful of another batting point or two.
