    Sussex v Warwickshire 355-5

Kai Smith had his heart in his mouth for a moment, clipping Gurinder Sandhu to Jack Carson at midwicket, but he can't take the catch. Did it carry? Maybe not quite.

A smidge of hope for Sussex, however, who would love a sixth wicket in the seven overs which remain this evening.

Bears have a third batting point, can Sussex find a second bowling point?

  2. Close of play at Yorkpublished at 18:11 British Summer Time

    Yorks v Essex 248-3

Matt Critchley steers Matthew Revis away for a leg-side single to finish the day and that means he will resume tomorrow on 13 not out, an identical score to partner Jordan Cox.

The pair have seen Essex through to stumps after the blow of losing Tom Westley and Dean Elgar in successive overs and the visitors will be happy overall with their situation after winning the toss this morning.

This is now the highest first class score by a visiting player at the Utilita Bowl.

It'll mean so much to an Isle of Wight lad who grew up playing in the Hampshire system.

When he woke up today, Hose had one century to his name and a top score of 111.

He's more than doubled it, and may yet challenge the highest score on this ground of 311 by John Crawley 20 years ago.

Hose has 252* from 240 balls with 31 fours and six sixes.

Five overs remain in the day.

Teenager Eknash Singh fell one short of a maiden first-class 50, but Tawanda Muyeye weighed in with 58 and skipper Daniel Bell-Drummond will start day two on 66 not out.

Northants included leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal for the first time this season, but his 25 overs were wicketless, producing figures of 0-72.

Sam Hain tried to flick that away the leg-side but took one liberty too many. The well-placed Tom Haines claiming a wicket that Sussex so urgently needed.

Hain was really looking to accelerate but Ollie Robinson has picked him up.

Having looked as though Sussex were really suffering until that wicket fell, now they've got an opening again.
