  1. Alleyne on the prowlpublished at 18:01 British Summer Time 2 May

    Lancashire 325-3 v Gloucestershire

    Adam Lanigan
BBC Sport reporter at Emirates Old Trafford

Lancashire continue to pile on the runs in the evening sunshine against a struggling attack.

Successive fours from Matty Hurst have taken this partnership between him and Marcus Harris past 200.

Not sure visiting coach Mark Alleyne is too impressed as he prowls the boundary rope.

It usually takes a lot to get the coach out of the dressing room in cricket!

  2. Into the last overpublished at 18:00 British Summer Time 2 May

    Somerset 4-1 v Essex 206

Josh Davey is wrapped on the pads, and eventually they sort of combine to turn down a single so he keeps the strike throughout what we thought would be the final over of the day.

Having been robbed of the single the ball before by the game situation, the former Scottish international whips for four and then one to keep the strike for a bonus Harmer over as it was 17.59 according to the Colin Atkinson Pavilion clock.

50 for George Drissellpublished at 17:59 British Summer Time 2 May

    Hants v Durham 306-5

George Drissell tucks Brad Wheal away for a single on the leg side to register his maiden County Championship half-century and the third overall of his first-class career.

Drissell's 50 comes from exactly 100 balls - and to continue the theme of round numbers, it's also the 100 partnership with Graham Clark for the sixth wicket.

  4. Postpublished at 17:55 British Summer Time 2 May

    Somerset 4-1 v Essex 206

Essex bring another close catcher in for Harmer's final two deliveries of the day.

Two consecutive maidens, but no wickets lost so a win to Somerset since that first wicket.

Just one more over from Sam Cook now to close out a thrilling first day in the westcountry.

  5. Postpublished at 17:53 British Summer Time 2 May

    Somerset 4-1 v Essex 206

Josh Davey survives Sam Cook's second over, a maiden.

Two more overs remaining and that should take us to almost exactly 6pm with the 94 overs bowled minus the two for the change around, that could satisfy many?

  6. Postpublished at 17:52 British Summer Time 2 May

    Yorkshire 205 v Warwickshire 93-4

Four deliveries into Jordan Thompson's over the ball's shown to the umpires by Jonny Bairstow who's not convinced it's still round.

Out come the gauges and it looks like Bairstow's got his wish to have it changed.

The case of spares comes out and, after a rummage, a similar one is found and tossed back to Thompson.

Yorkshire will hope they get a bit more out of this one.

  7. ouch!

Postpublished at 17:49 British Summer Time 2 May

    Hants v Durham 302-5

Graham Clark is wincing with pain after inside edging Kyle Abbott onto his leg and presumably missing the pad.

It's the second time Clark has been struck in that area by Abbott - the first of them resulting in an lbw appeal that was turned down.

  8. Postpublished at 17:49 British Summer Time 2 May

    Somerset 4-1 v Essex 206

Andy Umeed is off the mark first ball, one into the legside, then Josh Davey shows all his former Middlesex opening batter skills to drive three through midwicket.

Andy Umeed seemed slightly reluctant to take the third, but Josh Davey called him through for that three, giving Umeed four balls which he successfully sees out off Simon Harmer before Davey has to face up to Cook again.

    Vaughan c Critchley b Cook 0 Somerset 0-1 v Essex 206

Sam Cook has had quite a day, he signed a three year contract, got picked for England, and has now taken a wicket in his first over.

Andy Umeed and Archie Vaughan's opening partnership at Old Trafford last September lasted one ball then two balls, so three balls across two innings.

Today they lasted five balls as Vaughan goes without scoring, caught at slip.

Josh Davey is in at three again, surviving the last ball of Cook's over.

Simon Harmer will open the bowling from the River End!

    Somerset 0-0 v Essex 206

    Harry Everett
    BBC Sport from Taunton

Somerset have only taken the light roller before they come out to bat, another interesting decision that we in the pressbox cannot yet quite work out, I shall endeavour to ask the question in our post match interviews in less than 30 minutes from now.

No nightwatchers, Andy Umeed and Archie Vaughan will both face the music together in their first opening partnership together for Somerset first team this season.

  11. 300 runs

300 up for Durhampublished at 17:41 British Summer Time 2 May

    Hants v Durham 302-5

Durham collect their second bonus point of the game as Graham Clark steers Brad Wheal to long leg for two.

Clark is just seven short of his hundred, with George Drissell alongside him on 47 not out.

Both players will have to wait a little longer for a tilt at those personal milestones, as we have a drinks break with 10 overs left in the day.

  12. Postpublished at 17:37 British Summer Time 2 May

    Yorkshire 205 v Warwickshire 84-4

Textbook from Dan Mousley as he takes Jordan Thompson for back-to-back boundaries.

The first is a little shuffle down the track and confident lofted drive over mid-off.

The second is a super model of a cover drive.

Ed Barnard then gets in on the act as he, back knee on the ground, flays Jordan Buckingham to the cover fence, and then stands a bit taller and punches the next one to a similar place.

Two balls later, Barnard adds a third for good measure.

Five fours in the last eight deliveries. Warwickshire staring to give Jonny Bairstow something to ponder with both batters up to 18.

  13. 'Harris becomes leading run scorer'published at 17:32 British Summer Time 2 May

    Lancashire 290-3 v Gloucestershire

    Adam Lanigan
BBC Sport reporter at Emirates Old Trafford

From 23-2 this morning, it really has been all Lancashire as they near 300.

No wickets since tea and over 100 runs already in the final session as Gloucestershire's bowlers grow weary.

Matty Hurst has brought up his first 50 of the summer but really this is all about Marcus Harris.

The Australia batter has now overtaken Middlesex's Max Holden as the leading run scorer this summer in county cricket.

He has accelerated from 100 to 150 in 47 balls against a team he played for in 2022 and 2023 and nearly every shot at the moment is coming off the middle of the bat.

    Porter b Overton 19 Somerset v Essex 206 AO

At last, curse of the live text commentator and all that.

Craig Overton takes his second wicket of the day as he bowls Essex's last man Jamie Porter for 19.

10 minute interval now before Somerset have at least five overs to bat tonight before 6pm.

  15. Postpublished at 17:30 British Summer Time 2 May

    Somerset v Essex 206-9

This partnership is getting past the irritating stage for the Somerset fans previously enjoying Friday evening sunshine on May day's long public holiday weekend.

The home side have a habit of struggling to polish off tails and Jamie Porter is often not looking like a tailender here too.

    Yorkshire 205 v Warwickshire 64-4

The grind continues for Warwickshire who have a major rebuilding job on their hands on a pitch that's still offering help for Yorkshire's all-seam attack.

Just 13 runs have been added off 41 balls since the Bears lost two wickets in as many deliveries.

It's a constant balancing act though. Despite the precarious nature of their position, the Bears batters know they have to establish some momentum despite being aware there's a good chance there's a ball with their initials on it round the corner.

Ed Barnard and Dan Mousley are eyeing up the gaps and looking to pinch singles in between the fielders who are still peppered around them.

  17. Postpublished at 17:26 British Summer Time 2 May

    Hants v Durham 293-5

Durham were scoring freely in the first hour or so after tea, but the new ball has stemmed that flow so far.

Kyle Abbott and Brad Wheal - both of whom bowled well this morning - sent down 11 dot balls before the 12th was stroked away for a single by George Drissell.

Drissell is five short of his half-century, while partner Graham Clark is also within sight of a personal milestone on 87.

  18. Division Two latestpublished at 17:25 British Summer Time 2 May

Lancashire are making hay in the Old Trafford sunshine. Matty Hurst has just passed fifty, Marcus Harris is approaching 150 and the Red Rose are 276-3 against Gloucestershire.

Glamorgan are also enjoying the batting conditions in Cardiff. They're 283-4 against Derbyshire.

Leicestershire's lower order is doing a fine job against Northants to take them to 276-7. Logan van Beek and Ben Green have put on 58 for the eighth wicket.

Division Two's leading run scorer Max Holden has gone cheaply for Middlesex who are 79-3 against Kent. But they only trail by 50 after skittling their opponents for 129 earlier.

    Somerset v Essex 203-9

Jamie Porter is looking pretty decent with the bat here!

Over mid off for four, then a back foot punch through the covers for four.

Craig Overton has to come back on now and first ball sees the Essex 200 up as Kasun Rajitha hits him through the legside for four.

  20. Postpublished at 17:17 British Summer Time 2 May

    Somerset v Essex 187-9

Kasun Rajitha obtains a single through the periscope shot from a rising Miggy Pretorius delivery as he manages to survive another over alongside Jamie Porter.

27 extras in this innings, which I make Essex's third top score.
