  1. new ball

Hampshire take new ballpublished at 17:16 British Summer Time 2 May

    Hants v Durham 292-5

The new ball can't come soon enough for Hampshire, who must have had hopes of restricting the visitors to below 250 after reducing them to 82-4.

But it's been Durham's afternoon and evening since then and they're closing on in a second batting bonus point now, with Graham Clark and George Drissell adding 86 so far for the sixth wicket.

To nobody's surprise, Kyle Abbott will have first use of the new ball.

  2. 50 runs

50 for Warwickshirepublished at 17:07 British Summer Time 2 May

    Yorkshire 205 v Warwickshire 53-4

Four slips and a short-leg in place now for George Hill as Yorkshire smell blood.

Dan Mousley scampers a single off Hill's third a ball before a leg-slip's added to the close fielders for the right-handed Ed Barnard.

He's a calm character is the former Worcestershire all-rounder, who has shown already he's the man for a pressure situation in guiding the Bears to their thrilling win over Durham and ensuing the draw with Nottinghamshire.

He relieves a bit of the tension here too with a flowing cover drive to get off the mark and bring up the 50.

  3. wicket

WICKETpublished at 17:06 British Summer Time 2 May

    Thain c Rew b Pretorius 41 (Somerset v Essex 181-9)

Migael Pretorius gets another much deserved reward. 3-20 he has now.

Kasun Rajitha is still there, it is Noah Thain that has to go, caught behind for a very useful 41 for Essex.

Jamie Porter is Essex's last man, and it is now very unlikely Essex get a single batting bonus point from this match.

  4. Postpublished at 17:00 British Summer Time 2 May

    Somerset v Essex 179-8

The tactic of not trusting your number 10 to hold an end up is in place.

Young Noah Thain does not rate his overseas bowler Kasun Rajitha with bat in hand clearly.

Somerset put most their men out on the boundary giving him one if wanted, but the all-rounder politely declines.

  5. Postpublished at 17:00 British Summer Time 2 May

    Hants v Durham 275-5

Four overs left until the new ball is due and you'd think Hampshire will grab it eagerly.

At the moment, they're struggling to find a way through this sixth-wicket partnership, with Graham Clark cutting Sonny Baker for another boundary to move into the 80s and George Drissell looking increasingly comfortable on 31 at the other end.

Drissell went for a big heave against Felix Organ just now and had a slice of luck, skying the ball on the leg side but picking out a space between two fielders.

  6. wicket

WICKETpublished at 16:57 British Summer Time 2 May

    Cook c Vaughan b Pretorius 8 (Somerset v Essex 179-8)

The new ball does the trick fourth delivery.

A leg-side full loosener, then a legside long hop which was nothing like as good as the beauties Migael Pretorius was bowling with the old ball just 11 minutes ago, but that is cricket folks, and he breaks this irritating partnership, Archie Vaughan taking a comfortable catch coming in from deep fine leg.

Sam Cook is gone after a 73-ball stay.

  7. new ball

New ballpublished at 16:54 British Summer Time 2 May

    Somerset v Essex 178-7

We were not sure if it would be necessary to take the new ball, Miggy Pretorius has been bowling so well, but they have taken it and it is not Craig Overton, but Pretorius himself who gets first use with it.

He has bowled brilliantly with the old, but invariably starts with a leg side loosener with the harder, shinier new Dukes.

Three slips in place and two deep men behind square boundary patrolling, Somerset clearly realising my stat re Cook's wagonwheel...dare they be bold and station no fielders in front of square!?

  8. wicket

WICKETpublished at 16:54 British Summer Time 2 May

    Malik lbw b Hill 10 (Yorkshire 205 v Warwickshire 47-4)

    Two in two for Yorkshire!

Zen Malik's debut knock for the Bears is nipped in the bud just as he gets to double figures.

He's forward to George Hill but plays down the wrong line with his defensive prod and it slams into the knee roll in front of the lot.

    Easy job for the umpire.

    Warwickshire in the mire.

  9. Postpublished at 16:52 British Summer Time 2 May

    Somerset v Essex 175-7

    Harry Everett
    BBC Sport from Taunton

Sat next to me like a naughty school classmate, the Cricketer's Chief Correspondent George Dobell and I have just been trying to remember if Sam Cook has scored a run in front of square off his 66 balls so far.

So we have checked the wagon wheel and the answer is...

No, eight runs, all behind square and a lot of plays and misses, but nonetheless this has been a crucial partnership frustrating Somerset, together they have put on 42, almost a third of the runs, but time allowing the sun to flatten this out perhaps making it easier for Somerset to bat eventually this evening?

  10. wicket

WICKETpublished at 16:50 British Summer Time 2 May

    Shaikh c Bairstow b Sears 3 (Yorkshire 205 v Warwickshire 47-3)

It's the Bears turn to wobble.

Hamza Shaikh can't believe it. He shouldered arms to one from New Zealand quick Ben Sears but hasn't got out the way quick enough.

It's on him and grazes the glove as Shaikh tries desperately to get his hands out the way.

  11. 50 runs

50 partnership for Clark and Drissellpublished at 16:47 British Summer Time 2 May

    Hants v Durham 259-5

Sonny Baker, who's been expensive so far today, is brought back on for his third spell - and almost immediately George Drissell flicks him down the leg side for four.

That raises the 50 partnership between Drissell and Graham Clark, from 101 balls and Durham, who have just pocketed their first batting bonus point, are going along nicely.

  12. dropped catch

Dropped catchpublished at 16:43 British Summer Time 2 May

    Somerset v Essex 177-7

Tom Abell drops Sam Cook at head height with the reverse cup technique at second slip off Miggy Pretorius.

He has toiled away and deserved a second wicket.

Sam Cook tries to get out the next two balls too playing and missing outside off stump.

Just three overs left until the second new ball now.

  13. Postpublished at 16:41 British Summer Time 2 May

    Yorkshire 205 v Warwickshire 45-2

Years from now, it's unlikely Zen Malik will tell his grandchildren about how he got his first runs in first-class cricket as he streakily gets off the mark with a edge past first slip down to deep third off George Hill.

But he should definitely recount his second scoring shot - the very next ball - as he nicely uses the pace to help the ball on its way down to fine leg with an accomplished flick.

He then takes a single with a spot of tip and run to end the over.

  14. Division Two latestpublished at 16:39 British Summer Time 2 May

Elsewhere in Division Two, Leicestershire opener Rishi Patel has fallen for 105. The Foxes are now 226-7 against Northants.

Sam Northeast (62*) and Colin Ingram (48*) are piling on the runs for Glamorgan against Derbyshire. The Welsh county are 248-3 and in control.

Middlesex have lost a couple of early wickets after bowling out Kent for 129 at Lord's. They're 39-2, but the division's leading run-scorer Max Holden is at the crease.

  15. Postpublished at 16:37 British Summer Time 2 May

    Somerset v Essex 175-7

These two are batting quite nicely here, responsibly, showing the top order how it should be done.

Sam Cook is 8* and Noah Thain 36*, no time pressure, still 35 overs before bonus point territory ends.

  16. 100 runs

for Marcus Harrispublished at 16:37 British Summer Time 2 May

    Lancashire 213-3 v Gloucestershire

Marcus Harris celebrates centuryImage source, Rex Features

Marcus Harris' outstanding start to the season continues for Lancashire.

The Australian brings up his second century of the campaign to go with three fifties.

It's almost 500 runs in seven innings at an average of just under 100 for the 32-year-old.

    Lancashire are in command.

  17. Postpublished at 16:33 British Summer Time 2 May

    Hants v Durham 246-5

Surprisingly, we've just witnessed the first six of the match - surprising, given the way Ollie Robinson was striking the ball during his innings earlier this afternoon.

It's George Drissell who dispatches the ball over the fence for the first time, charging down the track to Liam Dawson - and then follows it up with another straight drive for four.

Graham Clark picks up successive boundaries in the next over from Dawson, who's leaking runs at the moment.

  18. Postpublished at 16:32 British Summer Time 2 May

    Yorkshire 205 v Warwickshire 33-2

How close were Yorkshire to another one there?

Jordan Buckingham, keeper Jonny Bairstow and all the slips are sure Zen Malik has edged one behind.

It looks like he did. Sadly for the home side, Buckingham over-stepped the line and it was another no-ball.

    The fourth he's delivered.

  19. wicket

WICKETpublished at 16:26 British Summer Time 2 May

    Yates lbw b Coad 14 (Yorkshire 205 v Warwickshire 30-2)

Ben Coad pins the left-handed Rob Yates.

Yates gets a stride in but he's struck on the back leg. The Yorkies are up in unison and the umpire's finger follows.

Yates tips his head back and looks to the skies - maybe he thinks it was a bit high?

Not high enough as far as the ump's concerned.

Two wickets in seven balls for Yorkshire who are roaring back.

In walks Zen Malik on his first-class debut...

  20. Evening session under way at Southamptonpublished at 16:24 British Summer Time 2 May

    Hants v Durham 224-5

It's a continuing diet of spin after tea, with Felix Organ bowling the first over of the session to George Drissell.

Drissell takes a single before Graham Clark, who is 62 not out, attempts a rather untidy sweep off the final ball of the over and fails to connect.
