  1. Postpublished at 13:23 British Summer Time 28 September

    Sussex v Middlesex 36-1

    Close!

Henry Crocombe nearly has a wicket first ball but an edge from Sam Robson flies through the recently vacated third slip position and runs away for four runs.

Single into deep point for Robson for one.

  2. wicket

WICKET Stoneman c Haines b Robinson 13published at 13:19 British Summer Time 28 September

    Sussex v Middlesex 31-1

Sam Robson pushes Ollie Robinson into the off side for one.

    He's on 18 now.

Henry Crocombe has been stretching in the field and might be on to bowl shortly.

A bit of width from Robinson back of a length and Mark Stoneman leaves the ball outside off stump.

Out! Squared up in defence and edging to Tom Haines at fourth slip, diving in front of third where it may not have carried.

Great delivery. Moving away from a middle and leg line.

    Max Holden to bat next.

  3. Afternoon session under way at Trent Bridgepublished at 13:18 British Summer Time 28 September

    Notts 440-9 v Warks

Just to confirm, there was no declaration by Nottinghamshire - because we were already playing an extended session, the normal rule about the ninth wicket falling just before an interval wasn't applied.

That means the innings continues, with Jacob Duffy out there to see how many he and centurion Kyle Verreynne can add to the Notts total.

  4. 'Abbott once again superb'published at 13:17 British Summer Time 28 September

    Somerset 136 & 180 v Hants 196 - lunch, day three

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

A fine, stroke-filled, counter-attacking innings of 59 from skipper Lewis Gregory has given Somerset’s spinners just a chance of bowling Hampshire out for fewer than 120 for an unlikely end of season win.

But it is only a faint chance, as whatever devil there was in this pitch seems to have melted away overnight.

For Hampshire, Kyle Abbott has once again been superb with yet another five-for, taking his career tally of Somerset wickets to 69, at just 17 apiece.

  5. Postpublished at 13:14 British Summer Time 28 September

    Sussex v Middlesex 30-0

Shot! Full on the leg stump from Jaydev Unadkat and picked up through square lg for four runs by Mark Stoneman.

Quite a bright start from Middlesex, who need to do something quite remarkable to catch Yorkshire in the promotion race.

A pause in play now as the umpires inspect the ball.

Is it damaged after an early flurry of boundaries or damp after incessant rain in the last couple of days?

Whatever the reason, the ball is being changed after eight overs.

  6. 'Westley in prime form'published at 13:12 British Summer Time 28 September

Essex 262-2 v Surrey - lunch, day three

There’s an element of ‘what if’ about proceedings here at Chelmsford but Dean Elgar and Tom Westley provided great entertainment in a stand of 253, a new second wicket record for Essex against Surrey.

Westley, ending the season in prime form, hit 25 fours and a six before he was caught off Yousef Majid, giving the slow left arm debutant his first Championship wicket.

Elgar has completed his fourth century of the season and continues to give the impression that Essex could not have found a more ideal replacement for Alastair Cook.

Essex need a win to have a chance of finishing third. Could a double forfeit be on the cards later?

  7. Postpublished at 13:10 British Summer Time 28 September

    Sussex v Middlesex 26-0

Just for a moment Jaydev Unadkat thinks he has Mark Stoneman caught low on the drive in the slips but it hasn't been given.

    Perhaps pad only there.

Ollie Robinson continues down the hill and Sam Robson moves to 17 with a flick to the leg side for one.

  8. Lunch at Tauntonpublished at 12:59 British Summer Time 28 September

    Somerset 136 & 180 v Hants 196

Central Stags seamer Brett Randall comes out to bowl at the one-armed Steve Kirby (still reeling from his bicep injury) as the roller patrols the Somerset wicket for one last time this season (I do not think they will roll it for our potential media v groundstaff XI match this evening!)

    Back out at 13:27 BST.

  9. Postpublished at 12:52 British Summer Time 28 September

    Sussex v Middlesex 14-0

Sussex are clearly trying to attack the stumps here with a full length but Ollie Robinson is a bit too leg side and Sam Robson tucks the ball away fine for two successive fours.

He adjusts his line and the Middlesex opener pushes defensively into the off side.

  10. Postpublished at 12:49 British Summer Time 28 September

    Sussex v Middlesex 6-0

A good start from Mark Stoneman, who drives Ollie Robinson's fourth ball through cover for four runs.

Jaydev Unadkat is bowling up the hill, conceding just a single to Sam Robson in his first over.

  11. wicket

WICKET Bashir b Organ 2published at 12:48 British Summer Time 28 September

    Somerset 136 & 180 v Hants 196

Somerset are all out for just a 119 lead.

Felix Organ (2-13) gets the final wicket, Shoaib Bashir playing all around that one.

And that will be lunch. Hampshire will chase 121 when they resume and are big favourites to claim second place in the Championship.

Dean Elgar hits a boundaryImage source, Rex Features

Essex opener Dean Elgar went to his century against champions Surrey, shortly before Tom Westley was dismissed for a magnificent 135.

The captain hit slow left-armer Yousef Majid to long on to give the Surrey youngster his maiden first-class wicket and end a stand of 253 with Elgar. Essex are 262-2 at lunch.

Durham captain Alex Lees has raced to 95 at lunch in the first session of their game against Kent. His side are 149-1.

After Glamorgan and Gloucestershire each forfeited an innings this morning, Gloucestershire are 22-1 chasing 382 for victory in Cardiff.

And they're finally under way in the match between Leicestershire and Derbyshire. Leicestershire are 41-0.

  13. Lunch at Headingleypublished at 12:46 British Summer Time 28 September

    Yorks 56-1 v Northants 147

Adam Lyth edges Luke Procter on a flashing drive, but the ball goes well wide of third slip for four runs.

Lyth pushes the last ball through the covers for no run and that's lunch.

Yorkshire continue to tighten their grip on the second promotion spot but will no doubt hope nothing extraordinary happens with their promotion rivals Middlesex, who have just started their match against Sussex at Hove.

  14. Lunch at New Roadpublished at 12:43 British Summer Time 28 September

    Worcs 180 v Lancs 18-2

Josh Bohannon and Rocky Flintoff survive until the interval, but they'll have a good deal of work to do this afternoon to keep alive Lancashire's hopes of staying up.

Very much Worcestershire's morning, having added another 61 to their total before removing both Lancashire openers cheaply.

  15. Play begins at Hovepublished at 12:41 British Summer Time 28 September

    Sussex v Middlesex 0-0

80 overs in the day's play.

Sussex bring in Fynn Hudson-Prentice for Bertie Foreman since the last round.

Just the one change for Middlesex too, with Tom Helm coming in for Noah Cornwell.

Mark Stoneman and Ethan Bamber will be making their final appearances as Middlesex players.

Bamber will join Warwickshire next season. Nothing definite for Stoneman yet but he's surely too good a player not to return to first team cricket next summer.

Sam Robson and Mark Stoneman will open the innings.

    Robson will face Ollie Robinson.

  16. Postpublished at 12:41 British Summer Time 28 September

    Somerset 136 & 177-9 v Hants 196

Shoaib Bashir gets off the mark with a chipped push just past Felix Organ, Somerset do last the over so we will now play until the final wicket falls or 13:10 BST.

  17. wicket

WICKET: Farhan Ahmed c Davies b Yates 10published at 12:38 British Summer Time 28 September

    Notts 440-9 dec v Warks

Nottinghamshire lose their ninth wicket on the stroke of lunch as Farhan Ahmed chops a wide delivery from Rob Yates straight to point.

Some confusion here as we hadn't quite reached the lunch interval, but the players have gone off in any case and that suggests the home side may have declared.

We'll try and clarify that shortly. Either way, Kyle Verreynne goes to lunch unbeaten with an excellent 130.

  18. Postpublished at 12:37 British Summer Time 28 September

    Yorks 52-1 v Northants 147

Not a great start from Luke Procter.

His third ball is full outside off and driven through cover for four and four more runs come off the fifth ball, driven through the same region.

That takes Yorkshire to 50 in 12.5 overs.

  19. wicket

WICKET Ogborne c Brown b Organ 1published at 12:37 British Summer Time 28 September

    Somerset 136 & 176-9 v Hants 196

Oddly Liam Dawson is replaced again for Felix Organ to bowl what could have been the last over before lunch, but it won't be now.

Alfie Ogborne chops the spinner behind.

If Shoaib Bashir can last five balls then the extra half an hour could be taken before lunch.

Remember he should have been out first ball in the first innings, but a dropped towel in Kyle Abbott's run up saved his blushes to then be out for a duck two balls later.

  20. Postpublished at 12:34 British Summer Time 28 September

    Yorks 44-1 v Northants 147

Ben Sanderson thought he had James Wharton out but that ball appeared to bounced off the boot and it landed short of Gus Miller in the slips.

Just the one over from Justin Broad at the other end and now Northants captain Luke Procter will have a bowl before lunch.
