  3. Northants under the pump in final gamepublished at 10:20 BST 26 September

    Northants 189 v Leics 429 & 86-2

The hosts begin Day Three more than 300 in arrears after a below par first innings and a blistering second innings knock of 50 in 44 balls from opener Sol Budinger after his team opted not to enforce the follow on.

He also got the Division Two champs off to a flyer in the first innings with a 31-ball blast of 44.

Northants would have been yet further behind but for a counter-attacking 62 in 75 balls from the in-form Saif Zaib.

Leicester's run rate dropped considerably after Rob Keogh prized out Budinger and opposition captain Ian Holland in successive balls last night.

But Rishi Patel and Lewis Hill have plenty of time to reset.

  4. Simpson in a rush to 'get the job done'published at 10:18 BST 26 September

Sussex captain John Simpson passed 1,000 runs for the season

Sussex centurion John Simpson admitted passing 1,000 runs for the season was satisfying but he insisted the away dressing room was frustrated at not completing the job on day two.

Worcs finished the day at 270-6 with a lead of 43 after centuries from the Sussex skipper and James Coles put the visitors in a commanding position.

“The extra couple of batting bonus points was nice to get and personally, it was great to go past 1000 runs and get to three figures and get that third batting bonus point.

“But it would have been a better day if they were all out, or you know, seven or eight down, ideally, but yeah I thought they played actually pretty well.”

Worcs batsman Rob Jones said his side showed “character” not to roll over when defeat loomed large.

“It was tough yesterday and just to come out and show the bit of character this morning, I think that's what we spoke about in the huddle.”

  5. Somerset looking to take controlpublished at 10:17 BST 26 September

    Essex 295-2 v Somerset 433

Somerset's first innings felt like a decent score at the time it was completed.

But Paul Walter's 158 in just 167 balls has forced us to re-evaluate.

Walter and night watcher Simon Harmer both fell in the last half hour before the close to the bowling of Craig Overton, affording a little respite to the visitors.

Opener Dean Elgar resumes unbeaten on 111.

  6. Top flight status 'in the balance' – Rainepublished at 10:13 BST 26 September

Durham seamer Ben Raine posted only a second first class century

Ben Raine conceded Durham's Division One status remains in the balance but insisted he was “desperate” to keep the club in the top flight for next season.

The Durham all-rounder posted only his second first class hundred in their first innings then 3-35 with the ball to leave Yorks 314-5 trailing by 32 runs going into day three.

But Raine is ready to put his body on the line again on day three as these two sides battle to avoid relegation alongside Worcs.

“As a bowling unit, we’ve given it our all and battered the house down,” he said. “But the game’s still very much in the balance moving forward, and there’s a lot to play for over the next two days.

“I really don’t want this club to be relegated. I’m desperate for us to be playing Div One cricket next year. So to play a part in keeping us in this fixture, I’m over the moon with the knock.”

  7. 'Still a lot of hard work to do' – Abbottpublished at 10:12 BST 26 September

Hampshire seamer Kyle Abbott said there was “still work to do” if they are to escape relegation but said they only had themselves to blame for being in the mix.

Abbott took 4-51 as Surrey stretched out a 124 run lead in their second innings with four wickets still in tact to give Hants a good chance of winning the match.

“There is still a lot of hard work to do in this game to keep us safe,” he said. “I’m not paying too much attention to other games. We have had 13 other games to not be in this position,” he said.

“We are here for a reason and we can only play what we can control.”

Surrey batter Dom Sibley saluted the contribution made by 17-year-old Ralphie Albert on debut with 7-2 and 61 not out.

“It was seriously impressive from Ralphie,” he said. “He bowled really well and then batted so beautifully and so fluently.

“He’s young and a quiet lad but how he has batted there shows how confident he is. Hopefully he can go on and get a big one.”

  8. Final push for champions Nottspublished at 10:07 BST 26 September

    Notts 374 v Warwicks 258 & 7-3

Good morning to Notts fans. How are the heads feeling this morning?

We may have mentioned a couple of times that Notts sealed the Division One title in considerable style last night when Kyle Verreynne pulled Nathan Gilchrist into the stands for six to reach the innings 300.

That second batting point meant Notts could not be caught at the top of the table.

What a turnaround from last summer, when they just managed to hang on to Division One status, finishing in eighth place with two wins.

How satisfying would it be to pick up their seventh win of a victorious campaign?

Warwickshire begin Day Three still 109 in arrears. We have seen plenty of evidence that there are runs in this pitch when the new ball softens.

Can Will Young help the Bears to weather the storm generated by Mo Abbas and Brett Hutton last night?

He resumes looking for his first run, having faced just two deliveries last night.

Brett Hutton has five balls to bowl in his second over after dismissing Ethan Bamer with his first delivery last night.

  10. Notts crowned champions, now who's going down?published at 10:01 BST 26 September

Nottinghamshire captain Haseeb Hameed led from the front with a century against Warwickshire to help his side seal a first County Championship in 15 years yesterday.

The bonus points secured moved them out of the reach of defending champions Surrey and it was a great moment for the club to watch Kyle Verreynne hit a six to get them over the line in style in the late afternoon autumn sunshine.

But now with the title decided, attention turns to the relegation race, with Durham, Yorkshire, Essex and Hampshire in the mix.

Durham, who are playing Yorkshire, appear to be up against it and are currently the side in the dreaded drop zone alongside already relegated Worcestershire.

We'll guide you through all the action.
