  1. 'Pretty dismal second innings from Somerset'published at 17:00 BST 26 September

    Essex 438 v Somerset 433 & 92-7

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

Jamie Porter does have a tremedmous record against Somerset. Second best record against Somerset of any Essex bowler other than Stan Nichols who was a great Essex all rounder back in the 1930s.

Somerset batting as if they want to be on the bus back to Taunton sooner rather than later. It's been a pretty dismal performance in the second innings.

  2. Postpublished at 16:59 BST 26 September

And we can Northants v Leicestershire to the games off for bad light now...

  3. Gloomy conditionspublished at 16:58 BST 26 September

Not wishing to tempt fate, but we had been doing well with the weather in this round of games up until this afternoon.

But there is obviously a lot of gloominess around the country at present.

Games at Hampshire, Yorkshire and Middlesex have all been off for some time now.

Tricky times, especially for Hants and Durham, who appear to be the two teams most in danger of the drop to Division Two.

  4. Postpublished at 16:54 BST 26 September

    Essex 438 v Somerset 433 & 92-7

Hopes now rest with Lewis Goldsworthy, and no offence is intended to Jack Leach.

Goldsworthy works a leg side ball away fine for one.

Jack Leach drives and misses outside off stump.

An all too brief innings from Craig Overton just now - but he has bowled well in this game, reaching a career haul of 500 wickets on the way.

  5. 'Porter is enjoying himself'published at 16:54 BST 26 September

    Essex 438 v Somerset 433 & 91-7

    Victoria Polley
    BBC Essex Sports Editor

Jamie Porter is really enjoying himself in this evening session he's now 4-15 and Craig Overton has gone lbw. He was awfully tangled up for that one.

  6. wicket

WICKETpublished at 16:51 BST 26 September

    Overton LBW b Porter 2 (Essex 438 v Somerset 433 & 91-7)

The scoreboard says 26 overs left but that is highly unlikely given the gloomy overheads.

Craig Overton is forward to Jamie Porter, defending the Essex bowler down the ground.

Squared up, stuck on the crease and hit on the pad in front of middle. Porter is a magician.

Given! Jack Leach is on his way to the crease.

  7. 'Crowd rewarded with wickets'published at 16:50 BST 26 September

    Essex 438 v Somerset 433 & 89-6

    Victoria Polley
    BBC Essex Sports Editor

The crowd has maybe drifted away a little bit in this evening session, it is colder out there and the light was going but those who have stayed have been rewarded with a couple of Essex wickets.

  8. 'This week has belonged to Notts'published at 16:48 BST 26 September

    Dave Bracegirdle
    BBC Radio Nottingham commentator

Nottinghamshire have beaten Warwickshire for the first time in 10 years, the Bears have got such a strong record here in Nottingham but this week has belonged to Notts.

Comprehensive winners of the County Championship now with three wins out of three in September and a nice little touch right at the end with Ben Slater reaching a thousand for the season and Haseeb Hameed able to hit the winning runs to crown a magnificent season for him and Nottinghamshire.

Kate: Slightly surreal situation. I'm in my hire car queueing to get across the border from Montenegro to Albania listening to The Ryder Cup on BBC Sport whilst keeping an eye on the County Championship scores.

Sounds exciting - excellent multi-tasking! Can anyone beat Kate for the furthest away follower today?

Dave: Celebrating the title in true champion style with a thumping victory over Warks. Thanks for bringing us great joy over the season, when I can't be at Trent Bridge. Winter well, Mr B.

A nice little message to our very own Dave Bracegirdle there

  10. wicket

WICKETpublished at 16:45 BST 26 September

Broad LBW b Trevaskis 10 (Northants 109-5 - target 501 to beat Leics)

Liam Trevaskis again! That's his third of the innings.

Justin Broad sweeps and misses in front of the stumps and now Stuart van der Merwe will bat.

  11. Postpublished at 16:45 BST 26 September

    Essex 438 v Somerset 433 & 89-6

Loose waft from the crease from Kasey Aldridge and the pressure is very telling.

Charlie Bennett bowls to Lewis Goldsworthy who defends.

    Maiden over.

  12. wicket

WICKETpublished at 16:41 BST 26 September

    Wells c Northeast b van der Gugten 19 (Glamorgan 265 & 241 v Lancashire 374 & 42-1)

Lancs need 91 runs to seal victory over Glamorgan but they'll have to do it without opener Luke Wells who has been dismissed for 19.

Timm van der Gugten picking up his sixth wicket of the contest.

  13. wicket

WICKETpublished at 16:41 BST 26 September

    Aldridge c sub (Fernandes) b Porter 0 (Essex 438 v Somerset 433 & 89-6)

These are dangerous times for Somerset, who would have held out hope of securing a second place finish in the table after a promising first innings.

The lead is just 84. The ball is moving around in quite murky overhead conditions.

Kasey Aldridge edges Jamie Porter behind to the substitute keeper, Simon Fernandes!

Two wickets in the over and here comes Craig Overton.

  14. 50 runs

50 for Joey Evisonpublished at 16:40 BST 26 September

    Kent 271 & 103-3 v Derbyshire 698-6 dec

A half-century is no mean feat in these circumstances for Kent but Joey Evison has delivered one in 62 balls as his side go over 100 in the follow-on.

Ben Compton, on 41, will want to ensure he gets one too to round off the season - he fell four runs short yesterday.

  15. 'You couldn't make it up'published at 16:39 BST 26 September

Hants 148-9 (33 runs required) - bad light stops play

    Mark Church
    BBC Radio London commentator

I don't think anybody really wants to come back to tomorrow in this situation and I can't see the light improving.

We've had nothing but spin really all afternoon, the lights have been on the whole time but the umpires have now decided the light's too bad to carry on. You couldn't make it up.

I don't understand stand that. It's a funny one because if we don't get back out there it won't be any better for Hampshire in the morning. I didn't expect that.

Here’s why the county championship is brilliant. I’m a Northumbrian living in Lancashire quietly cheering on Surrey (Durham being my first class county). Although should Hampshire fall short don’t rule out Durham not lasting a full day at Headingly if it stays dry. Thanks to Kevin and all the commentators this year for another great year.

  17. wicket

WICKETpublished at 16:35 BST 26 September

    Thomas LBW b Porter 39 (Essex 438 v Somerset 433 & 89-5)

Out! Jamie Porter has just taken his 550th first class wicket.

The ball moves in from back of a length outside off to strike the knee in front of the stumps and Josh Thomas has to go.

Kasey Aldridge is in the middle.

  18. Bad light stops playpublished at 16:34 BST 26 September

    Hants 148-9 (33 runs required)

Single off the first ball from Ralphie Albert gets the runs required to 33 but puts Brad Wheal back on strike.

Hants No 11 negotiates five dot balls safely enough to take his numbers to 0 from 22 balls.

And now the umpires are coming together and taking them off.

Spin? Only 33 required? What on earth are they doing?

  19. Postpublished at 16:34 BST 26 September

    Essex 438 v Somerset 433 & 89-4

The umpires are having a chat. It is gloomy but we are playing on.

Lewis Goldsworthy turns the ball from Charlie Bennett to deep square leg for two runs.

Bennett bowls a bit shorter outside off stump and Goldsworthy leaves the ball alone.

Single turned to leg and Josh Thomas gets one more run to deep point.
