Northants 104-4 - target 501 to beat Leicestershire

Saif Zaib guides the Northants innings past 100 in the 36th over by sweeping spinner Liam Trevaskis fine for four.

Can he get through to stumps and take this game into a fourth day?

    He's now 13 not out.

  2. Postpublished at 16:29 BST 26 September

    Hants 147-9 (target 181)

James Fuller goes down on one knee to Rahul Chahar and splits the boundary riders on the midwicket boundary for four – the first runs in 32 balls.

And he takes a single off the final delivery to keep the strike.

  3. 'We could be back tomorrow'published at 16:28 BST 26 September

    Hants 142-9 (target 181)

    Mark Church
    BBC Radio London commentator

We could be back tomorrow with Hampshire 142-9 with the extra half hour having being played tonight because there are absolutely no runs being scored at the moment.

If they could keep this going until 17:30 tomorrow night we could get a draw.

  4. Postpublished at 16:27 BST 26 September

    Hants 142-9 (target 181)

Another maiden from Ralphie Albert leaves the finish line no nearer.

  5. Postpublished at 16:26 BST 26 September

    Essex 438 v Somerset 433 & 83-4

Good start for Lewis Goldsworthy, who dispatches the first post-tea delivery, a full toss - through cover for four.

Over. Now Jamie Porter will bowl to Josh Thomas.

  6. Postpublished at 16:23 BST 26 September

    Hants 142-9 (target 181)

Another maiden from Ralphie Albert as Brad Wheal blocks out another over.

James Fuller will face Rahul Chahar with 39 still needed but knowing that one an over will not get them over the line as there is no way Wheal is lasting 19 overs.

Fuller needs to get some boundaries but his three attempts at power shots in this over are cut off on the rope.

  7. Play resumes at Chelmsfordpublished at 16:22 BST 26 September

    Essex 438 v Somerset 433 & 79-4

Floodlights on. Low-hanging grey cloud but we're on the field!

Lewis Goldsworthy on strike. He faces Charlie Bennett on seven.

Josh Thomas survived a tough catching chance on 36, missed by Simon Harmer at slip just before the break.

He resumes at the other end on 37.

  8. Postpublished at 16:19 BST 26 September

    Hants 142-9 (target 181)

Rahul Chahar has 7-40 when he starts this against James Fuller, his 18th over, and neither figure moves after six dot balls.

Brad Wheal will have to face another set from Albert.

  9. Postpublished at 16:16 BST 26 September

    Hants 142-9 (target 181, 39 runs needed)

Ralphie Albert has been tossed the ball with one wicket needed.

James Fuller takes a single and thinks about a second but aborts when the fielder closes a little too rapidly.

Hants No 11 Brad Wheal is on strike and pushes forward defensively for three dots, an inside edge that squirts out to square leg, and concludes with a solid defence.

  10. 'Chahar has been outstanding'published at 16:15 BST 26 September

    Hants 141-8 (target 181)

    Mark Church
    BBC Radio London commentator

How does James Fuller play this now? It seems an awful lot now but Rahul Chahar has been absolutely outstanding.

  11. wicket

WICKETpublished at 16:12 BST 26 September

    Abbott c Foakes b Chahar 3 (Hants 141-9, 40 runs required)

It's Rahul Chahar again and Kyle Abbott is in the crosshairs.

Two singles see the South African back on strike and he digs out one but can't get properly to the pitch of a leg break that leaves him and brushes the bottom of the bat.

Ben Foakes takes the catch and Hampshire shoulders slump.

  12. 'Hampshire need 42'published at 16:11 BST 26 September

    Hants 139-8 (target 181)

    Kevan James
    BBC Radio Solent commentator

We've had two wickets since tea, Washington Sundar for 11 and Scott Currie for two and 42 needed.

    Sales c Cox b Trevaskis 23 (Northants 91-4 - target 501 to beat Leics)

Four down and both set batters gone. Liam Trevaskis strikes again!

James Sales is back and across to cut the spinner and edges to the keeper.

    Justin Broad is in next.

  14. Postpublished at 16:08 BST 26 September

    Hants 139-8 (target 181)

Dan Lawrence is back on and is met with a drive through mid off by James Fuller which reduces the target to another 48 runs.

A shortish one is smashed into Ollie Sykes at short leg which looks painful.

Now Fuller sweeps for another two to backward square leg and then drives through mid off for another four to move to 21.

Dot ball to finish and 10 off the over. Game on again.

  15. Bad light stops play at Lord'spublished at 16:06 BST 26 September

    Middlesex 634-9 dec v Glos 286 & 39-1

Only one over after the tea break and the players are back in the hutch for bad light.

The hosts could only add 15 runs after tea as Lancashire put an end tor the second innings and give themselves a total of 133 to chase for victory.

There was just about time for Chris Cooke to reach a half-century before he was last man out to Tom Bailey.

  17. Postpublished at 16:05 BST 26 September

    Hants 129-8 (target 181)

Kyle Abbott picks off a single to put James Fuller on strike and the all-rounder has responded by sweeping Rahul Chahar for four.

  18. wicket

WICKETpublished at 16:02 BST 26 September

    Keogh c Patel b Trevaskis 42 (Northants 91-3 - target 501 to beat Leicestershire)

    Liam Trevaskis bowls...

Driven, edged and caught by Rishi Patel at slip. Rob Keogh is out.

    Could that open the door?

Here comes Saif Zaib, very much a key wicket for both teams given his rich vein of form.

  19. Tea at Chelmsfordpublished at 16:00 BST 26 September

    Essex 438 v Somerset 433 & 79-4

Jamie Porter will bowl the last over before the break, under beaming floodlights and dark clouds.

Cut and dropped by Simon Harmer in the slips!

Josh Thomas survives on 36. He takes a single.

Lewis Goldsworthy blocks out the over at first, then gets a single to long leg and Somerset go into tea with a slender lead of 74.

  20. wicket

    Currie lbw b Chahar 2 (Hants 121-8, target: 181)

Scott Currie follows Washington Sundar back to the hutch.

That was a googly and he has not picked it and Rahul Chahar has 6-32.

Kyle Abbott has rescued Hants so many times in the past with the ball in hand but now they need him with the bat.
