  1. Sloppy Surrey!published at 15:33 British Summer Time 30 July

    Durham 153 & 118-2 v Surrey 322

    Adam Lanigan
    BBC Sport reporter at Chester-le-Street

As County Champions for the last three years, we have become used to the Surrey machine grinding down the opposition.

With a 169-run lead at halfway, it felt like normal service was under way, but their hopes of pushing for victory today have been undermined by some uncharacteristically sloppy fielding.

Jordan Clark, Dan Lawrence and Ryan Patel have all dropped catches that could and should have been taken.

Clark and Lawrence shelled caught and bowled chances, which came at good heights, but Patel's drop off at a ball that looped towards him at bat-pad was a bad one.

Not quite Mike Gatting in India in 1993, but a bad drop, nonetheless.

  2. 50 runs

50 for Whartonpublished at 15:32 British Summer Time 30 July

    Yorks 191-2 v Sussex 222

James Wharton has followed up his catch of the season on day one with a 79-ball 50 on day two as he scoop-drives towards wide mid off.

  3. wicket

ESSEX 602-6 DECLAREDpublished at 15:28 British Summer Time 30 July

    Allison c Jani b Yates 133 (Essex 602-6d v Warwickshire)

Charlie Allison has been in T20 mode for the last few overs and his luck finally runs out at cow corner, Vansh Jani diving forward after coming in from the rope to hang on with both hands.

Michael Pepper finishes with an unbeaten 107 and Essex, on what looks a incredibly favourable batting track, have probably built their defences high enough to secure a draw at the very least.

  4. 100 runs

for Pepperpublished at 15:23 British Summer Time 30 July

    Essex 591-5 v Warwickshire

A scrambled two ends with an slightly ignominious dive into the crease from Michael Pepper, trousers pulled half down and red undies showing – not quite the picture he had in mind for the scrapbook.

But that has been a great knock from the Essex keeper with his century coming in 113 balls.

Pepper received his county cap from captain Tom Westley today and he has marked it with a fourth first class century and a third this season.

And he has shown that given a platform, he can be a dangerous operator.

  5. Postpublished at 15:20 British Summer Time 30 July

    Essex 589-5 v Warwickshire

Three expansively hit boundaries from the bat of Charlie Allison off Dan Mousley but it is not entirely clear that that was in the script with Michael Pepper stranded at the non-strikers' end.

How about a quick single, let Pepper get his hundred and declare?

  6. 'Durham need another Gay century'published at 15:20 British Summer Time 30 July

Durham 109-2 in second innings (trail Surrey by 60)

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

Ben McKinney struggled to cope with the left-arm spin of Sai Kishore and ended up throwing his wicket away in an attempt to try and take him on.

He'd tried - and failed - on numerous occasions to play forward defensive shots to Kishore, missing the spin regularly. It was a similar result each time he tried to cut him.

Then came an attempted slog-sweep from the 20-year-old opener, which also ended up in the keeper's hands.

And moments after team-mate Emilio Gay gestured to him to calm down, McKinney got himself out. He hit Kishore straight to Dan Lawrence at long-on and he took a low catch on the bouncdary to dimiss him for 24.

It ended a partnership with Gay of 73. Gay Now has 61.

His three previous 50s this year have all been turned into centuries. How Durham need more of that today!

  7. wicket

HANTS 293 ALL OUTpublished at 15:12 British Summer Time 30 July

    Baker c Roderick b Taylor 0 (Worcs v Hants 293 all out)

... and a second in three balls brings an end to the Hampshire innings and a five-for for Tom Taylor who finishes with 5-55 from 21.3 overs.

That has been a decent effort from Worcs given Hants were 144-0 late on day one.

  8. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:10 British Summer Time 30 July

    Fuller c Roderick b Taylor 41 (Worcs v Hants 293-9)

A fourth for Tom Taylor as James Fuller's aggressive effort is brought to an end...

  9. 'Silly cricket from McKinney'published at 15:09 British Summer Time 30 July

    Durham 153 & 96-2 v Surrey 322

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

It was only a matter of time, he couldn't cope with him.

It's silly cricket from Ben McKinney.

He was overwhelmed with the spin.

  10. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:09 British Summer Time 30 July

    McKinney c Lawrence b Kishore 24 (Durham 153 & 96-2 v Surrey 322)

He struggled to get Sai Kishore away, attempted a big slog sweep a few balls back, this time holing out to long on where Dan Lawrence takes a good catch diving forward.

64 balls he faced, whilst Emilio Gay is looking particularly fluent the other end, he probably should have just taken the easy one to get his in-form partner on strike.

  11. 150 runs

150 for Yorkshirepublished at 15:06 British Summer Time 30 July

    Yorkshire 161-2 v Sussex 222

James Wharton pummels Jack Carson for two big sixes to bring up Yorkshire's 150 (and 160), the first a hastily rearranged pull over square leg and the second an arrow straight drive back over the bowler's head.

  12. Postpublished at 14:58 British Summer Time 30 July

    Notts 35-1 v Somerset 438

Jack Leach bowlingImage source, Rex Features

First look at spin for Somerset in the seventh over.

Liam Dawson may have been chosen ahead of Jack Leach for the Old Trafford test, but despite being dropped for the fifth Test tomorrow, he is not yet back playing for Hampshire.

So England's loss is even more so Somerset's gain with Leach having all summer playing for his home county.

He overpitches to be taken for two boundaries by Freddie McCann through the covers in his first over.

  13. 'Emilio Gay's played very nicely'published at 14:58 British Summer Time 30 July

    Durham 153 & 92-1 v Surrey 322

    Mark Church
    BBC Radio London commentator

Emilio Gay's played very nicely today.

Some nice shots to reach the half century mark and bring the deficit down.

  14. 6 runs

Postpublished at 14:57 British Summer Time 30 July

    Worcs v Hants 281-8

James Fuller has picked Khurram Shahzad over the square leg boundary and on to the top of the pavilion.

Fuller is not holding back and now has 37 off 28 with two fours and three sixes.

  15. 50 for Gaypublished at 14:56 British Summer Time 30 July

    Durham 153 & 91-1 v Surrey 322

Durham are faring better than their last three Championship innings, these two having put on 65 runs now from 77 balls.

England Lions opener Ben McKinney was harshly dropped for a few games, but remember such is Durham's depth that Championship winning skipper of Warwickshire Will Rhodes can't get in this side.

He is on 21* whilst Emilio Gay just got to his half century off only 42 balls.

Spin from both ends now as Dan Lawrence joins Sai Kishore.

  16. wicket

WICKETpublished at 14:55 British Summer Time 30 July

    Williamson c Bancroft b Murphy 153 (Gloucs v Middlesex 325-6)

    Big breakthrough for Gloucestershire!

It's an Australian pairing that does for New Zealand's Kane Williamson as spinner Todd Murphy gets him to nick it to Cameron Bancroft.

Williamson's superb innings is done at 153 off 183 balls.

  17. wicket

WICKETpublished at 14:52 British Summer Time 30 July

    Prest lbw b Taylor 54 (Worcs v Hants 272-8)

And an entertaining partnership between Tom Prest and James Fuller is brought to an end when the former plays around a straight one from Tom Taylor.

The pair have added 44 in 43 balls and Prest departs having more than played his part with a third first class fifty.

  18. 150 runs

for Williamsonpublished at 14:51 British Summer Time 30 July

    Gloucs v Middlesex 324-5

Kane Williamson loves a big score and he's just gone past 150 at Cheltenham College.

For someone who's made almost 10,000 Test runs at an average of 55, he might not be done yet...

  19. 'Durham are ticking along'published at 14:50 British Summer Time 30 July

    Durham 153 & 82-1 v Surrey 322

    Mark Church
    BBC Radio London commentator

It's good positive stuff from Emilio Gay.

Durham are ticking along quite nicely at the moment.

  20. rain stops play

Rain stops playpublished at 14:43 British Summer Time 30 July

    Essex 557-5 v Warwickshire

The rain that has arrived could not have come at worse time for Essex who will be keen to declare but also keen for Michael Pepper to reach his century.

It is not hard rain and hopefully they will be back soon and the wicketkeeper batsman will get the 10 needed to reach his personal landmark.
