Well, I can't say cricket was the winner there.

A ghastly Phoenix start was saved to some extent by a fourth-wicket partnership between Ellyse Perry and Sterre Kalis, but Originals should have chased down 112.

Instead they put in a dismal showing off their own, featuring four run-outs and only three batters making it out of single figures.

Take a read of Elizabeth Botcherby's report of a strange day at Old Trafford.

We'll be back in 15 minutes for the men's match between these sides - see you then for an 18:00 BST start.

Joe Root averages 30.4 in run chases, compared to 22.4 when batting first in the Hundred.

  3. Rockets win by three wicketspublished at Fire v Rockets

Sam Hain gets the winning boundary with a ball to go as Trent Rockets crawl over the line after looking comfortable for most of their chase of the 151 target set by Welsh Fire.

Joe Root was crucial, after surviving being caught out due to David Payne's no-ball early in his innings, and smashed back-to-back boundaries in Chris Green's final set.

Root finished on 64 (41) and Hain ended not out four (2). Welsh Fire's David Payne and Chris Green both took two wickets and Riley Meredith, Ben Kellaway and Saif Zaib each got one.

The dramatic win seals Trent Rockets' place in the top three and leaves Welsh Fire rock bottom of the table with no hope of making it through.

  4. 'We showed our best cricket today'published at 17:23 British Summer Time 24 August

Birmingham Phoenix batter Sterre Kalis speaking on Sky Sports: "A tough start. The pitch was doing a bit and when I got in, it was a tough situation losing early wickets. Me and [Ellyse] Perry re-builded and we thought it was a good total.

"It was a pitch where it was easy to get going once you were in. Ellyse Perry showed her class again today and it was a brilliant win."

On their bowling innings: "We had to play really good to defend a low score. We knew we had to take early wickets and the girls were buzzing to do that.

"It has been a tough campaign but all we can do now is play our best cricket and we showed that today."

  5. 'The girls bowled outstandingly today'published at 17:21 British Summer Time 24 August

Birmingham Phoenix captain Ellyse Perry speaking on Sky Sports: "Sometimes our execution has been off but we have endeavoured to play well every match. Today we hung in and assessed the conditions well. The girls bowled outstandingly and it was nice to get a good result.

"This will give us a platform to finish well. It would have been nice to find this momentum early on but I can't fault the girls."

On her partnership with Sterre Kalis: "Sterre did a wonderful job. She play well on the off side and she took a bit of momentum to build our partnership. To get to 100 runs was really nice. It was a strong team effort because our bowling unit did not falter."

On the bowling unit: "Emma Lamb did really well and Phoebe Brett came on today and turned the ball really well. There are a lot of young England players which is really exciting and it's nice to see players improving game by game."

This is only the second time Birmingham Phoenix have taken all 10 wickets in an innings - the fewest by any team in the Women’s Hundred.

  8. 119-4published at Fire v Rockets

    Target 151

Trent Rockets have slipped to 119-4 after a superb five-ball spell by Chris Green, who got the wickets of Max Holden and Tom Moores in quick succession. That was after Rehan Ahmed was caught by Steve Smith at mid-on.

But Joe Root remains at the crease and he looks determined to get his side over the line as he closes in on fifty at 49 from 34 balls.

Trent Rockets need 32 from 20 balls to secure a top-three finish.

Birmingham Phoenix should have kicked on and got more runs really. Perhaps there was a bit of complacency from Manchester Originals not chasing that down. They made a meal out of it.

    Breaking

Gaur run out (Lamb/Jones) 6 (Originals 95 all out)

    And that's that.

Mahika Gaur is run out from the final ball of the innings, trying to come back for a second run after striking Em Arlott out towards mid-wicket.

Filer, who finishes on 19 not out from 11 balls, almost got run out from the previous ball, but Arlott couldn't collect cleanly as the Originals batters ran two.

A dismal showing from the home side, who remain third but have opened the door to chasing sides.

Phoenix move above Welsh Fire into seventh after just their second win of the season.

Em Arlott needs to go full and straight at the tailenders here.

    21 runs needed

Quick singles taken from the first two balls of Em Arlott's final set.

Match over unless Arlott bowls a sizeable number of extras.

  13. Originals 89-9published at 5 balls left

    23 runs needed

Mahika Gaur survives the hat-trick ball, knocking the ball to long-off for two.

A further single comes in a similar area from the next delivery.

Mahika Gaur has long levers but she is going to have to hit a fair few here.

Manchester Originals would have backed themselves at the halfway point but since the powerplay it has been all Birmingham Phoenix.

    First baller for Dani Gregory.

The new batter looks utterly baffled by Megan Schutt's delivery and edges behind to Amy Jones.

Hat-trick ball for the Australian seamer.

Megan Schutt took the pace off for that delivery and Seren Smale will be disappointed. It was a sticky innings from her.

    Seren Smale goes!

She drops to go for a conventional paddle off Megan Schutt, but can only lift Em Arlott to Phoebe Brett at short fine leg.

    That handy partnership is broken.

    Oooh, funky.

Seren Smale drops to try a reverse paddle to Georgia Voll, realises it's not on and guides the ball through an empty cordon instead.

    Four runs there.
