A serious shot from Ellyse Perry. Melie Kerr had a long-off and deep extra cover on the boundary but Perry clears them both for six.

    Perry is showing her class.

  2. 6 runs

    Phoenix 100-3published at 95 balls

    Hundred up!

I wasn't confident they'd make it, but this partnership is now worth 83 off 68 balls.

Ellyse Perry slams her first six over extra cover off Melie Kerr's third ball then sweeps through mid-wicket for four, with a chopped single to point bringing up the landmark.

Perry is on 47 off 45 balls, while Kerr is done with figures of 0-28.

Mahika Gaur should be taking that catch. She just did not move at all and let the ball bounce to her.

  4. Phoenix 90-3published at 90 balls

Is that a drop at mid-on?

I'll be generous and say it isn't - although if Mahika Gaur had moved swiftly she'd have probably at least got a hand on Ellyse Perry's shot, which drops just short of her.

Perry takes two to move to 34, then gets off strike with a further single.

Sophie Ecclestone had a little bit of a funky field there. Mid-off was up and she had a wide extra cover. That kind of delivery felt long off.

Again, Sterre Kalis is trying to take it to the Originals.

Brilliant fielding from Fi Morris prior to that. She is outstanding in the field and sets the tone for the Originals as a fielder.

  6. Phoenix 81-3published at 85 balls

Ellyse Perry picks up three, lashing through the ring at point before Fi Morris does some strong work on the ropes, diving over while tapping the ball away.

Kalis then adds her fourth four, smacking Sophie Ecclestone through long-off - the Originals spinner isn't amused by that one.

She's now finished with figures of 1-21.

  7. Fire 99-2published at Fire v Rockets

Welsh Fire captain Tom Abell, who successfully overturned an lbw decision earlier in his innings, is doing everything he can to drag his side towards a competitive total.

He's scored 35 (22), including back-to-back boundaries off Marcus Stoinis, to help move his side to 99-2 after 75 balls.

Stephen Eskinazi has 34 (33) but needs to accelerate during the remaining 25 balls.

Sterre Kalis has certainly shown the most intent. When you show that commitment you find batting a little bit easier and runs will come.

  9. 6 runs

    Phoenix 73-3published at 80 balls

    Beats everyone!

Kathryn Bryce's delivery breaks through Sterre Kalis and Beth Mooney and runs away for two byes - that wasn't far from the stumps.

Bryce then delivers a full toss and Kalis dispatches it through mid-wicket, with the ball dropping just over the ropes for the game's first six.

That was an awkward one for Lauren Filer. It didn't quite carry and it is always difficult when you are diving forward.

Sterre Kalis will need to go for every ball now. Birmingham Phoenix need to get to at least 100, maybe even 110 if they can.

  11. Phoenix 62-3published at 75 balls

A four for Ellyse Perry off Melie Kerr's first delivery, sweeping past Mahika Gaur at fine leg.

Sterre Kalis then drops a shot just in front of a diving Lauren Filer at backward point.

  12. Phoenix 55-3published at 70 balls

Deandra Dottin returns and her second set and goes for just three singles.

She has figures of 1-4 thus far.

  13. Phoenix 52-3published at 65 balls

After 61 balls, the 50 is finally up.

Ellyse Perry drops to a knee and works Sophie Ecclestone through fine leg for four.

Ecclestone finds that very funny for some reason.

Lovely shot from Sterre Kalis. She found the gap perfectly and Phoenix need more boundaries like that.

I would like to see the googly from Melie Kerr to Kalis because I'm not sure she will read it.

  15. Phoenix 46-3published at 60 balls

Melie Kerr back for her second set of deliveries.

Her first four balls see her concede just one leg bye, but Sterre Kalis cracks her final ball through the covers for four.

Birmingham Phoenix’s 34-3 is the lowest score by any team in the first 50 balls this season.

That's two opportunities that Beth Mooney has missed now. She had the ball in her gloves but I do think Mahika Gaur confused her by running in.

I'm not sure if Mahika Gaur was putting Beth Mooney off there. She could see her out the corner of her eye.

  19. dropped catch

Kalis dropped on 13published at 55 balls

    Phoenix 41-3

    Oh dear.

Sterre Kalis goes to whip Kathryn Bryce into the leg side and gets a big top edge that spirals behind the stumps.

Beth Mooney runs back to take the catch but puts down what looks like a pretty simple grab - perhaps she was distracted by Mahika Gaur running in?

Kalis takes a single, having started the set with a four through point.

  20. Fire 51-2published at Fire v Rockets

Sam Cook of Trent Rockets celebrates with team mates after taking the wicket of Jonny Bairstow of Welsh Fire during the The Hundred match between Welsh Fire Men and Trent Rockets Men at Sophia Gardens on August 24, 2025 in Cardiff, Wales.Image source, Getty Images

At the halfway mark, Trent Rockets are firmly on top at Sophia Gardens, with Welsh Fire labouring on 51-2.

Sam Cook picked up his second wicket of the innings, having Jonny Bairstow caught by Lockie Ferguson for eight (13), but Fire captain Tom Abell has successfully overturned an lbw decision off Marcus Stoinis' bowling.

Abell is not out on 9 (8) while opener Stephen Eskinazi has 18 (22).
