    Another one gone!

Having failed to score off the last three balls of Phoebe Brett's set, Alice Monaghan faces three dot balls from Em Arlott and then gets out from the next delivery.

She tries to pull but skews a top edge to Ellyse Perry at mid-off, while her bat goes flying over her shoulder.

Mahika Gaur and Megan Schutt both bowled maiden first sets today - the first time in the Women’s Hundred that the opening set of both innings has been a maiden.

There have been 12 maiden first sets in the history of the Women’s Hundred - five of them have come this season, including two in this game.

I like what I have seen from Phoebe Brett so far. She has a lovely action, just needs to finish it off a little bit better.

She probably has about 10 years before she is in her prime.

The Phoenix have started so well and that wicket is crucial. The Manchester Originals are in serious trouble now.

    The skipper departs!

Both openers depart for ducks, as Beth Mooney mistimes her shot off Megan Schutt for Marie Kelly to take on the run at mid-off.

Dare I say it - game in the balance?

A fraction too short from Megan Schutt and Melie Kerr was onto it in a flash. She is so good on the pull shot. The ball is swinging nicely into the right-hander.

That was strange running - I'm not sure who called who through, but that's a ridiculous run and there was no need for it whatsoever. It's like primary school running between the wickets.

    Well, that was odd.

Beth Mooney dabs Megan Schutt's third ball just to the right of point and hares off down the wicket.

Emma Lamb collects and throws in a tad loopily, but Amy Jones still has plenty of time to run Kathryn Bryce out - she wasn't even close.

Originals, like Phoenix, lose a wicket before they score a run.

Will Originals live to regret a few half-chances?

Probably not, but taking Beth Mooney dropping Sterre Kalis for 13 proved somewhat costly, while there were other reasonable stumping and catching opportunities out there.

Perhaps some slightly strange decision making with the bowlers too?

Mahika Gaur didn't bowl again after taking 1-5 off 15 balls inside the powerplay, Lauren Filer (0-17 off 15) and Deandra Dottin (1-4 off 10) had sets left in their locker while Kathryn Bryce and Melie Kerr went wicketless for 59 runs between them off their 40 deliveries.

Anyway, here come the Birmingham Phoenix side to huddle up on the outfield, followed by Originals openers Beth Mooney and Kathryn Bryce.

Manchester Originals bowler Mahika Gaur speaking on Sky Sports: "If you had told us at the start that we would restrict them to that total, we would have taken it. Hopefully our batters can get the job done now.

"I enjoyed it out there. There was good swing up top which worked to my favour. I tried to hit the front pad and I had a lot of fun playing out there."

On bowling 10 balls together: "By the end of the first five I feel in good rhythm so it always helps to get five after that and carry on my line.

"Hopefully our batters can get the job done and we can make it through to the eliminator."

  15. Rockets douse Firepublished at 15:54 British Summer Time 24 August

While we wait to see how Originals will get on in their run-chase, let's reflect on the early game in the women's competition, which saw Trent Rockets beat Welsh Fire. The Rockets were indebted to their Aussie spinners Alana King and Ash Gardner, who shared five wickets between them.

From 99-2 after 75 balls, Welsh Fire propelled themselves to a competitive total of 150-6.

Stephen Eskinazi (53 off 42) and Tom Abell (48 off 29) did the bulk of the scoring, putting on 97 (54) for the third wicket, while Chris Green smashed a handy 11 (4) at the death.

With the ball, Sam Cook took 2-17, with David Willey, Lockie Ferguson, and Marcus Stoinis the other wicket-takers.

Trent Rockets are chasing 151 knowing victory in Cardiff will secure a spot in the knockout stages.

Sophie Ecclestone was tip-toeing that boundary and leapt up in the air but she could not stop a six from Ellyse Perry.

A good knock from Perry. She started slow but she has the class to catch up. She has given her team something to bowl at along with Sterre Kalis.
