A great shot from Ellyse Perry. She is not normally someone who is 16 from 25 balls, she is normally much quicker.

That was too full from Lauren Filer and easy to capitalise from.

I don't understand why Originals are taking a time-out here. They are so on top.

What on earth do they have to talk about?

  2. Phoenix 34-3published at 50 balls

    Shot.

Ellyse Perry fires Lauren Filer's penultimate delivery through mid-on her second four of the match.

Originals take a strategic time-out at the half way stage - not sure what they need to talk about, but who doesn't enjoy a break?

  3. Phoenix 26-3published at 45 balls

Beth Mooney of Manchester Originals drops the ball as she attempts a stumping during the The Hundred match between Manchester Originals Women and Birmingham Phoenix Women at Emirates Old Trafford on August 24, 2025 in Manchester, England.Image source, Getty Images

    Stumping chance!

Sophie Ecclestone beats Ellyse Perry's bat as the Phoenix captain attempts the drive.

Perry is out of her crease but the ball bounces off wicketkeeper Beth Mooney's gloves and she can't regather with her right hand.

Perry survives with eight from 18 balls.

Birmingham Phoenix have had such a poor start and they need a good partnership here.

Melie Kerr's googly is so dangerous and Mahika Gaur still has five balls left. Originals have so many options.

  6. Phoenix 24-3published at 40 balls

Melie Kerr comes on to bowl and she delivers four dot balls - following on from two that ended Lauren Filer's set.

Sterre Kalis finally ends the run drought by lifting Kerr's last ball through extra cover for four.

I have seen more defensive shots in this innings than in the entire Hundred. Still no batters are into double figures.

Excellent start from Lauren Filer. Her first ball was right in the block and you don't want to be facing that as a batter.

She offers extra pace but that might offer the Phoenix more opportunity to score.

  9. Phoenix 20-3published at 35 balls

    Perry 8, Kalis 2

I'm sure the Phoenix batters will be delighted to see the pacy Lauren Filer entering the Originals attack for the first time.

A couple of singles off the set - just two boundaries in the innings thus far.

  10. Phoenix 18-3published at 30 balls

Sterre Kalis now for Phoenix - can she be the the one to turn it around?

She takes a single off her second ball, sending Dottin out through backward square.

Amy Jones did not get her timing right. It is hard when you come in and haven't faced many balls.

It was back of length from Deandra Dottin and the Originals are well on top. Birmingham Phoenix need someone to come in and build an attacking innings.

Amy Jones lasts just three balls!

Deandra Dottin comes into the attack and Jones cracks her to mid-wicket, where Mahika Gaur can take a catch with her fingers up.

Phoenix in deep trouble early doors.

  13. Fire 24-1published at Fire v Rockets

In the powerplay in Cardiff, Welsh Fire have underwhelmed with the bat, posting just 24-1 from their opening 25 balls.

Sam Cook had Steve Smith caught behind by wicketkeeper Tom Moores for 8 (7) off the 15th ball of the innings while Lockie Ferguson conceded just one run from his set.

Stephen Eskinazi has eight (12) while Jonny Bairstow is not out on two from six balls.

  14. Phoenix 17-2published at 25 balls

Amy Jones out at number four - she takes two off her opening delivery, out to fine leg.

That's the end of the powerplay.

That is a superb catch from Deandra Dottin. The umpires were going to have a look at it to make sure she controlled it.

That's what you want a new bowler to do when they come on.

    But now Emma Lamb departs!

She knocks Sophie Ecclestone's ball to mid-wicket, where Deandra Dottin drops to to her right to take the catch just above the turf.

A great shot from Emma Lamb. You see a lot of batters going for the paddle and reverse sweep against Sophie Ecclestone with the speed that she gets.

Ecclestone also gets a nice dip on the ball.

  18. Phoenix 15-1published at 21 balls

Tidy shot from Emma Lamb, greeting Sophie Ecclestone's first delivery with a dinked sweep very fine for four.

Mahika Gaur has bowled 90 balls in the powerplay this season - only the second bowler to bowl 80+ balls.

She has an economy rate of just 4.3 runs per set in the powerplay, with only Kate Cross have a better economy (minimum 50 balls bowled).

A little bit of width from Mahika Gaur and Ellyse Perry can play it nice and late to beat the two fielders. It always runs away to the boundary on this surface.

It is a decent batting pitch at Old Trafford. It might offer some spin later on as the ball gets softer but normally the bounce is very true and you can play through your shots with confidence.

There hasn't been lots of attack from the Birmingham Phoenix batters prior to that.
