  1. Do Leicestershire stick or twist?published at 10:24 BST 25 September

    Northants v Leics 392-7

Leicestershire are already confirmed as Division Two champions and had the Northants attack at their mercy by stumps last night, recovering superbly from an afternoon wobble at 110-4.

Do they bat on or declare?

Maybe Leicester captain Ian Holland will ask Stephen Eskinazi.

Eskinazi joined Leicestershire on loan ahead of a permanent switch next season and he ended Day One on 150 not out.

That's comfortably his highest score this season. His highest first class score ever is 179, which he made for Middlesex against Warwickshire at Edgbaston in 2017.

  3. Somerset cutting loose at Chelmsfordpublished at 10:22 BST 25 September

    Essex v Somerset 339-6

Essex bowled with good control for much of the morning and afternoon sessions of play but fell away somewhat after tea, when Craig Overton bludgeoned an unbeaten 31 off 38 balls.

Joshua Thomas showed plenty of promise in his first game as an opener, racing to a 50 at near enough a run a ball before slowing a little in the afternoon but still compiling a fine 86 before he was bowled by Jamie Porter.

Porter was the pick of the bowlers with 3-45 and will hope to wrap up the innings promptly this morning.

Craig Overton resumes with Lewis Goldsworthy, who has 61 not out.

    Yorks v Durham 322-7

David Bedingham top scored for Durham on day one

David Bedingham said Durham were breathing easier last night after recovering from a nightmare start which saw them 7-2 early on against Yorkshire.

The South Africa international fell seven runs short of a first century of the campaign but his 93 and an unbeaten 87 from Ben Raine dragged them back into the contest.

“The way it started, we definitely would have taken that [322-7] For Pottsy [Matthew Potts] and Rainey to show their fight and counter-attack like that at the end shows you that we’re still in the game.

“We have a big three days ahead.”

Durham remain right in the final relegation spot but both Hants and Yorks could be dragged back into the equation.

White Rose seamer Jack White admitted Yorks lost momentum towards the end of the day but said they will come back strong this morning

“Unfortunately, we let it go a bit at the end there, but we’ll come back in the morning and try and finish it off.

“Other players are allowed to play well. We just have to look at what we can do in the morning."

  5. Robinson salutes seam partner Unadkatpublished at 10:15 BST 25 September

Sussex bowler Ollie Robinson took 6-68 on day one

Sussex bowler Ollie Robinson says operating in tandem with India seamer Jaydev Unadkat has improved his bowling for Sussex in time for the winter.

Robinson has missed out on England duty in the Ashes and New Zealand but could still be heading down under for a stint in grade cricket.

And after taking 6-68 as the pair shared all the Worcs wickets on day one, Robinson said bowling with Unadkat during the last three rounds of the Division One campaign has put him in a good place.

“It is so nice to bowl with Jaydev, he is such a high-class operator and when we both are bowling well and the opposition are going nowhere it makes such a difference to the game," said the former England man.

“I can improve my game and learn from him which is such a bonus. I don’t know exactly what the winter holds, maybe some white ball cricket, Australia was mentioned for some grade cricket, but we will see.”

Sussex hold all the aces going into day two but Worcs batter Daniel Lanegan said his side would keep fighting.

“A very tough day losing the toss with a very good, very experienced attack from Sussex. We fought as hard as we could but it hasn't gone quite as we'd like it to have.”

  6. Notts with one hand on the trophy?published at 10:13 BST 25 September

    Notts v Warwicks 258

Notts have to do no more than not lose this game against Warwickshire - and it would be a remarkable turnaround if that happened.

The hosts bowled persistently well, breaking some solid Bears resistance down from 72-1 and again at 245-5.

The new ball bowing was simply irresistible. Mo Abbas struck twice in the first over with the shiny cherry, removing Michael Booth and Ethan Bamber with successive deliveries.

Brett Hutton promptly took the final two wickets at the other end and now momentum is firmly with the hosts.

The Championship title could be decided today if Notts manage to score 300 runs inside 110 overs.

If they fail to do so, a draw will suffice.

An improbable worst case scenario would be a Notts defeat with no more than a single batting bonus point and a Surrey win at Southampton plus three bowling bonus points.

That would leave Surrey on 208 points. Notts currently have 206.

If the two challengers are level on points - Notts win because they have already won two more matches this season than Surrey have.

Surrey assistant coach Jim Troughton said the reigning champions need to “front up hard” after a disappointing day at the Utilita Bowl.

The side who have won the last three County Championship titles looked flat and beaten from the off on day one against a Hampshire side battling relegation.

And Troughton said after defeat against champions elect Notts last week and day one here they needed to show their mettle on day two.

“The last two days of cricket for us have been disappointing. We need to dust ourselves down and make sure we come back strongly tomorrow,” he said.

“We find ourselves in a tricky situation now and we need to front up hard and come back at them.”

Hants all-rounder James Fuller said his side were not looking at the table despite them having only a two point advantage over ninth placed Durham after day one.

“I’m not paying any attention to the table situation. It is all up in the air. It is another final for us – we’ve had a few over the last couple of weeks – but whatever happens elsewhere is out of our control.”

Welcome along to day two of our live coverage of the final round of County Championship action this season.

Today looks likely to be the day that Nottinghamshire will claim their seventh County Championship title - and first since 2010 - as they need only two more points to beat Surrey to the crown.

Notts bowled Warwickshire out late last night and will bat today knowing that bonus points alone could land them the trophy by close of play.

Surrey’s title-winning hopes are all-but over after they were skittled out for 147 by Hampshire.

We have plenty more excitement to come from the relegation battle and Division Two as well so let's get into it.
