  1. Thanks for joining us on a historic day for Nottspublished at 19:02 BST 25 September

    Notts win title composite photo

They had to wait until a few minutes before 5pm but Notts were confirmed County Champions for the first time in 15 years and for a seventh time in their history.

A second batting point to go with three bowling points from day one, brought up with a six from Kyle Verreynne to get there, was enough to put them out of the reach at the top of the table.

Captain Haseeb Hameed will lead out his side on day three leading by 109 runs and needing seven Warwickshire wickets for the win.

His Notts players may be forgiven for a pre-emptive celebration tonight but for Essex, Yorks, Hants and Durham there remains hard work to avoid relegation ahead.

Hants go into day three against deposed champions Surrey with the match poised, the visitors leading at Southampton by 123 with four second innings wickets in tact.

    A nervy chase looks guaranteed.

At Headingley, Yorks and Durham are locked in an arm wrestle with the hosts trailing by 32 runs on first innings with five wickets remaining. A Hants win would focus the minds of both.

Essex are not yet out of the woods but look to have their sights locked on a draw with Somerset which would preserve Division One status.

More twists, turns and perhaps some headaches at Trent Bridge look guaranteed going into day three and we will be here from 10:00 BST to guide you through them all.

    Close of play: Notts 374 v Warwicks 258 & 7-3

    Dave Bracegirdle
    BBC Radio Nottingham commentator

Kyle Verreynne came into the commentary box and said: "I'll be out there" and hit an enormous six to get to the 300.

    He was there.

That enormous six from Kyle Verreynne off Nathan Gilchrist took Notts past 300, a second batting point and an unassailable lead at the top of the table.

  4. Wicket and close of play at Trent Bridgepublished at 18:31 BST 25 September

    Notts 374 v Warwicks 258 & 7-3

Brett Hutton bowls to Ethan Bamber...

Full with a bit of width... Bamber is forward to defend and he's nicked it to Freddie McCann at second slip!

Notts take advantage of tough conditions with the new ball and have an even bigger spring in their collective step - if that is even possible.

Play ends one ball into the fourth over on a historic day for Notts.

They've won the County Championship for the first time in 15 years, earned an innings lead of 116 and picked up three Warwickshire second innings wickets inside four overs tonight.

A warm round of applause from the Notts supporters as the players and umpires leave the field.

  5. 'Trophy lift tomorrow?'published at 18:31 BST 25 September

    Notts 374 v Warwicks 258 & 7-2

    Kevin Howells
    BBC Test Match Special commentator

If it carries on like this the thought has to be to be about tomorrow being the day that the trophy gets lifted which I think would be ideal to be honest.

    Notts 374 v Warwicks 258 & 7-2

This is feeling a bit like a procession from Notts.

Will Young defends down the ground and is beaten outside off stump next ball. Phew.

One more over left and Brett Hutton will bowl it.

    Davies LBW b Abas 2 (Notts 374 v Warwicks 258 & 7-2)

Can Mo Abbas snare another before the close? Three slips lie in wait.

Alex Davies is squared up as he defends down the ground.

He gets a bit of width off the third ball, which he leaves outside off.

It did swing back a bit though.

Angled in and hitting the pad. Did he hit that?

No, the umpire gives him out. Will Young is in next.

  8. Close of play at New Roadpublished at 18:25 BST 25 September

    Worcs 123 & 270-6 v Sussex 350

A Sussex victory on day three would seem an inevitability given the match situation and much improved performance with the bat in what will be the hosts' Division One swansong.

Having got the worst of the conditions after losing the toss on day one and getting rolled by Ollie Robinson and Jaydev Umadkat, Worcs might take heart from the performances of Tom Taylor (4-106) and Jake Libby (72) on day two.

But the reality is that Sussex have been in control throughout this match and a lead of 43 with just four wickets remaining will not hold Sussex at arm's length for long which could mean some Ryder Cup viewing for both sides tomorrow.

  9. 'Just when you thought Notts' day couldn't get better'published at 18:21 BST 25 September

    Notts 374 v Warwicks 258 & 7-1

    Dave Bracegirdle
    BBC Radio Nottingham commentator

Just when you think that Nottinghamshire's day can't get any better they've got the Bears one down.

  10. Postpublished at 18:21 BST 25 September

    374 v Warwicks 258 & 7-1

Alex Davies is forward and across, pushing the first ball into the off side for two runs off Brett Hutton.

Davies gets a bit of width outside off and leaves the ball safely.

The next ball evades slip for a bye.

Ethan Bamber is struck on the pad but it is not given. Too leg side.

    Two overs left tonight.

  11. Close of play at Headingleypublished at 18:18 BST 25 September

    Yorks 314-5 v Durham 346

A stunning innings from Mayank Agarwal, the former India Test batsmen striking 175 in 195 balls, helped poke Yorks' noses to within 32 of Durham at the close.

But nothing is decided in this game going into day three with both of these and Hampshire still in the mix in the squabble to avoid relegation.

With Essex heading towards a draw the same here might not be enough for Durham or Yorkshire depending on what happens between Hants and Surrey at Southampton.

Ben Raine finished the day with a maiden and 3-35, a day he started with the bat, moving to his second first class century (101 in 105 balls) but agonisingly falling short of a third batting point for Durham.

For Yorks, who finished with George Hill and Matthew Revis unbeaten having shared a 33 run partnership for the sixth wicket, Jack White 5-69 was the standout performer outside of Agawar.

Everything to play for going into day three but both sides will have half an eye on Southampton before knowing what is needed from this match.

  12. Postpublished at 18:17 BST 25 September

    Notts 374 v Warwicks 258 & 4-1

Ethan Bamber is of course not a natural number three and his job is to preserve the rest of the specialist batting tonight.

He avoids the king pair with a slightly disconcerting leave to a ball that was not far away at all.

The last ball is clipped in front of square for four.

Now Alex Davies will face Brett Hutton.

  13. Close of play at Canterburypublished at 18:16 BST 25 September

    Kent 117-2 v Derbyshire 698-6 dec - Kent trail by 581 runs

Derbyshire racked up almost, but not quite, 700 runs after deciding to declare on 698-8 earlier on.

Luis Reece top-scored with 211, with Wayne Madsen not far behind on 198. There were three other half-centurions in the team as Derbyshire put Kent to the sword.

In reply, Ben Dawkins has hit an unbeaten half-century but Kent have lost his opening batting partner Ben Compton four runs short of 50 and with the final ball of the day Mikey Cohen departed - sending a full toss back into the hands of bowler Jack Morley.

Great catch by Morley by the way and he took both of those wickets to leave Kent staring at another defeat.

    Yates LBW b Abbas 0 374 v (Warwicks 258 & 0-1)

Rob Yates leaves a Mo Abbas wide ball outside off stump.

Got him! A much straighter second ball strikes Rob Yates on the pad in front of off stump!

The umpire's finger raises after a dramatic pause and Ethan Bamber is in at three.

    374 v Warwicks 258 & 0-0

Notts, the county champions, are applauded on to the field.

Here come the openers, Rob Yates with Bears captain Alex Davies.

Four overs left tonight and Mo Abbas will bowl to Yates.

    Middlesex 634-9 dec v Glos 146-3 - Glos trail by 488 runs

Gloucestershire set off at a fair old pace in their response to Middlesex's massive score but they have been slowed by the loss of three quick wickets.

They had made it to over 100 runs without loss before Ben Charlesworth fell for 63 and his side went from 109-1 to 117-3.

Earlier, Middlesex captain Leus du Plooy stole the show with a brilliant 263 not out as his side declared on 634-9.

  17. NOTTS ALL OUT FOR 374published at 18:03 BST 25 September

    374 v Warwicks 258

Nathan Gilchrist wraps up the innings by having Muhammad Abbas caught behind by captain-keeper Alex Davies via a loose shot down the ground.

    He finishes with 3-79.

    The innings lead is 116.

Lest we forget, Notts were confirmed as 2025 county champions when they scored their 300th run well inside 110 overs to pick up their second batting bonus point.

That gave the club an unassailable lead at the top of the table.

  18. Close of play at Northamptonpublished at 18:02 BST 25 September

    Northants 189 v Leics 429 & 86-2

An emphatic performance from the Division Two champions leave Northants staring down the barrel of a 326-run lead, with plenty of time and wickets in hand to add more tomorrow.

The innings got off to a blistering start thanks to a 44-ball 50 from Sol Budinger, who was bowled by Rob Keogh.

Keogh dispatched Ian Holland (caught at slip) with his next ball but Leicestershire retain control.

Rishi Patel has 20 not out compiled off 73 balls and Lewis Hill is on 16.

  19. Close at Southamptonpublished at 18:02 BST 25 September

    Hants 248 v Surrey 147 & 225-6 (lead by 124 runs)

A good day for Hants led by warhorse Kyle Abbott but perhaps not a great one given what remains at stake.

Abbott's 4-51 continually pegged Surrey back as they threatened to stretch this lead out of reach and, as it is, Hants will be reasonably happy with the match situation.

Surrey bowled and batted with better application than on day one despite missing out on the Championship to Notts midway through the final session.

No one epitomised that fight better than 17-year-old Ralphie Albert who walks off unbeaten on 61 on debut – that after taking 2-7 with the ball.

Both sides will believe they can still win this but for Hants they are playing for a little more than professional pride.

With Yorkshire and Durham odds on for a draw they need to win this.

  20. Close of play at Sophia Gardenspublished at 18:00 BST 25 September

    Glamorgan 265 & 41-2 v Lancashire 374 - Glamorgan trail by 68 runs

Zain ul Hassan and Sam Northeast see Glamorgan through to the close two wickets down.

The hosts had to face 17 overs after bowling Lancashire out for 374 a little earlier.

They will start tomorrow morning 68 runs behind the visitors.
