    Warks 15-2 v Essex

And that is lovely bowling from Jamie Porter.

The Essex seamer drew Alex Davies forward but got the ball to leave him off the seam, grazing the edge and flying low to Matt Critchley's right where the third slip took a good low catch.

That is both Bears openers gone inside five overs and vindication already for the decision to insert at the toss.

  2. wicket

WICKET Albert c Hose b Taylor 11published at 10:54 British Summer Time 17 September

    Hampshire 16-2 v Worcs

Toby Albert chooses the wrong bat!

The first delivery with the replacement willow is kissed on the outside edge by Tom Taylor before the ball is held at first slip by Adam Hose.

A good catch from the Isle of Wight native.

    Hampshire 19-1 v Worcs

Tom Taylor gets one to rear up to Toby Albert.

It looked like it might have rapped Albert on the glove but actually it has damaged the shoulder of his bat.

A new bat is on its way.

    Derbys 18-0 v Middx

Middlesex captain Toby Roland-Jones has been a little wayward in his opening overs and three short, wide deliveries have been punished by the left-handed Luis Reece.

A bright start for Derbyshire after winning the toss.

  5. wicket

WICKET Dent c Clark b Robinson 3published at 10:51 British Summer Time 17 September

    Glos 4-2 v Sussex

Both Gloucestershire openers gone inside the first five overs.

Chris Dent follows Joe Phillips back to the dressing room as Ollie Robinson collects his first wicket of the game.

Not the start the T20 Blast champions would have wanted.

    Northants v Leics 8-1

Following their first win of the season last week, Northants have an early breakthrough in their mid-table East Midlands derby.

Rishi Patel is the man to go, caught by Saif Zaib off Jack White at the start of the fifth over.

    Kent v Notts 25-0

A lively start from Notts - remember Kent have only bowled their opposition out for under 400 once this season.

Akeem Jordan wanted a wicket though.

He swung a delivery into Haseeb Hameed and looked to deviate through to the wicketkeeper. Umpire James Middlebrook couldn't have been more unmoved if he tried.

    Lancs 11-0 v Somerset

Odd sort of pull shot by Keaton Jennings, who appears tight for room but manages to swivel it away fine off Brett Randell for four - but the umpire decides there was no contact with the bat and it's leg byes.

  9. wicket

WICKET: Yates lbw b Porter 5published at 10:45 British Summer Time 17 September

    Warks 6-1 v Essex

Jamie Porter with an early breakthrough for the visitors, beating Rob Yates's bat with a hint of inswing and a yard of extra pace.

  10. wicket

WICKET Middleton b Taylor 6published at 10:45 British Summer Time 17 September

    Hampshire 16-1 v Worcs

Fletcha Middleton was a little skittish when he edged past the cordon two balls earlier, and now he has lost his off stump.

It is a decent delivery from Tom Taylor which shaped to come in but nipped away to take the top of off stump.

    Lancs 6-0 v Somerset

Harry Singh is under way with a single off Brett Randell.

Craig Overton has four slips in place at the start of the next over and is convinced he has Singh lbw - but the umpire disagrees.

The rookie Lancashire opener tucks him to mid-wicket for one.

    Kent v Notts 14-0

A bag of Liquorice Allsorts from Akeem Jordan as his first over concedes 12 runs.

Two no balls in his first over. One of which was also driven with utter beauty by Ben Slater.

Less glory in Slater's second boundary of the over, a very thick outside edge all along the floor.

  13. Postpublished at 10:40 British Summer Time 17 September

    Surrey v Durham 2-0

Dan Worrall, so great in a losing cause in Saturday's T20 semi-final against Somerset, opens with a maiden before a leg bye gets Durham underway.

I'm sure the Surrey attack - indeed perhaps everyone! - is pleased to have the Duke's ball back this week.

19-year-old Ben McKinney opening for Durham with Alex Lees.

He's played the last three matches and after 121 against Notts, three failures have followed.

  14. wicket

WICKET Phillips c Simpson b Unadkat 0published at 10:40 British Summer Time 17 September

    Glos 1-1 v Sussex

Great start for the Division Two leaders at Bristol.

Joe Phillips' first Championship innings of the season lasts only three deliveries before he is caught behind off left-armer Jaydev Unadkat.

Ollie Price is out to bat at three.

Walking down the pitch to fast bowlers - surely that gives you less time to get in position to play your stroke? Keaton Jennings is already doing it for Lancashire today and we have also seen Ollie Pope, among others, adopt a similar tactic this season. If you are a cricket coach, get in touch and tell us why it's a good idea.

A sunny Old Trafford as Somerset field against LancashireImage source, BBC Sport

We have been greeted by a morning of beautiful autumnal sunshine for this crucial Division One match.

Yet less than 48 hours before, Old Trafford was under a blanket of rain - not too heavy, but enough to soak you through - as the T20 match between England and Australia was abandoned without a ball being bowled.

In fact, four of the last five days in these parts have been very nice and the weather forecast is very promising for the duration of this match.

But the one day when there was an international cricket match scheduled...

  17. Postpublished at 10:35 British Summer Time 17 September

    Glos 0-0 v Sussex

Very different level of experience for Gloucestershire's openers - Chris Dent is playing his 186th first-class game and Joe Phillips only his third.

We mentioned earlier that the home side are without Cameron Bancroft, who is heading home to Australia. It's the same story for Sussex, who don't have Daniel Hughes in their side for this game.

  18. Postpublished at 10:35 British Summer Time 17 September

    Kent v Notts 2-0

George Garrett takes the new ball for Kent after they had chosen to bowl first.

Both sides will want to settle the relegation nerves with a productive start. Kent need a miracle to stay up, but Notts are still slugging it out with Lancs - both of whom lost by an innings last week.

Haseeb Hameed does his bit by turning one off his hip for a single, and Ben Slater does the same two balls later. Those are the only two runs from the opening six.

  19. dropped catch

    Lancs 3-0 v Somerset

    Would you believe it!

Craig Overton's first ball finds the outside edge of Keaton Jennings' bat and the chance is 'shelled' at second slip by Kasey Aldridge.

Jennings is using the 'on the walk' tactic already and is beaten outside off stump before squeezing a couple and then a single.

Keaton's opening partner in this game is Championship debutant Harry Singh. We don't know a lot about him, except that his dad RP Singh played two ODIs for India in the 1980s and Dean Jones was his only wicket.

All the players were in position and ready a full two minutes before the scheduled start.

But Joe Leach is held for a minute before unleashing his first delivery of his penultimate matches before retirement at Toby Albert at 10:29 BST. A dot.

Eager beavers on the south coast!
