  1. wicket

WICKET Procter c Cox b Currie 38published at 16:12 British Summer Time 17 September

    Northants 47-1 v Leics 203

Luke Procter had been going at it pretty hard, but now he's gone, caught behind off Scott Currie.

The Northants skipper hit seven fours in his 36-ball knock, but misses out on a half-century stand with Gus Miller, whose full name we just found out is Augustus Horatio.

    Excellent.

  2. 150 runs

150 for Ben Slaterpublished at 16:11 British Summer Time 17 September

    Kent v Notts 278-3

This is the fourth time Ben Slater has reached 150 in first-class cricket.

Every run feels like it has come very easily for Slater today - he's been there since the start.

  3. Play resumes at Old Traffordpublished at 16:10 British Summer Time 17 September

    Lancs 140 v Somerset 65-4

Time for the final session in Manchester.

Somerset need to knuckle down and build a partnership if they are to get anywhere near adding some batting points to the three they earned for bowling Lancashire out cheaply earlier on.

With Tom Kohler-Cadmore out to the last ball before tea, James Rew is new to the crease for the final four of George Balderson's over.

  4. Postpublished at 16:09 British Summer Time 17 September

    Hampshire 260-4 v Worcs

Liam Dawson has found himself on 38 without anyone noticing.

He's been busy at the crease, with all four of his boundaries very dismissively played.

The all-rounder has added 86with Nick Gubbins, who is still churning away on 111.

  5. Anyone for a two-day game?published at 16:08 British Summer Time 17 September

    Lancashire 140 v Somerset 65-4 - tea

    Adam Lanigan
    BBC Sport at Old Trafford

A frenzied session of Championship cricket at Old Trafford - 98 runs and 10 wickets falling. Madness!

Lancashire lost four wickets for one run earlier. Somerset have lost three for seven in the last few minutes.

You would not bet against there being a third innings in this match before the end of play.

I'm certain this game will not get to Friday. At this rate, we may not even get to Thursday!

  6. wicket

WICKET: Robson c Thomson b Chappell 0published at 16:07 British Summer Time 17 September

    Derbys 173 v Middx 0-1

Perfect start for Derbyshire after tea.

Sam Robson is there much too early with a push to leg and pops up a catch to mid-on.

  7. Back under way at Canterburypublished at 16:04 British Summer Time 17 September

    Kent v Notts 271-3

Kent have had a think over a brew and come up with a fresh plan of attack.

Jack Leaning is going to have a bowl.

If you love listening to the County Championship action, you can access our ball-by-ball radio commentary on most smart speakers, as well as via the 'Watch & listen' link at the top of this page.

Simply tell your smart speaker to ask BBC Sounds to play the fixture of your choice and the day of play. So, for example, today you could say "ask BBC Sounds to play Glamorgan v Yorkshire day one".

  9. wicket

WICKET Clark c van Buuren b O Price 21published at 16:04 British Summer Time 17 September

    Glos 109 v Sussex 58-2

An immediate breakthrough for Gloucestershire as Tom Clark drives Ollie Price's third delivery and Graeme van Buuren takes an excellent catch at mid-off.

The two Toms are now together for Sussex - Haines and Alsop.

  10. Tea at Edgbastonpublished at 15:58 British Summer Time 17 September

    Warks 78 v Essex 104-5

An initially decent effort from Warwickshire as they attempted to rescue a desperate situation has petered out slightly.

At one stage with Essex stuttering at 50-5 even a first innings lead looked a possibility.

But runs have started to come a little easier now the ball has softened as Essex have slowly reeled in their initial target.

The current stand between Michael Pepper (22no) and Matt Critchley (32no) is now up to 54 which, in the context of the day, is by some way the high-water mark.

  11. 100 runs

100 for Nick Gubbinspublished at 15:54 British Summer Time 17 September

    Hampshire 249-4 v Worcs

Century No.3 of the season for Nick Gubbins.

He rocks forward and strikes to the boundary through a thick outside edge.

Gubbins has had to grind it out in the afternoon and gets his reward.

    Surrey v Durham 207-6 - tea

Tom Curran takes a wicketImage source, Rex Features

Leaders Surrey have enjoyed the best of day one so far here at The Oval, with Durham struggling to 207-6 after 64 overs.

There have been a few partnerships which looked like they could develop into bigger things, but that hasn't really happened, with the bowlers keeping the pressure on throughout much of the day.

The last wicket was worth 70 but the partnership was over when Bas De Leede mis-timed a pull shot from Tom Curran and was caught at mid-wicket for 36.

Colin Ackermann will resume after tea on 38. It looks like a great batting track when the sun is out, but seems to change in nature when the cloud cover comes in.

  13. wicket

    WICKET Kohler-Cadmore c Hurst b Balderson 3published at 15:47 British Summer Time 17 September

    Lancs 140 v Somerset 65-4

Tea is taken at Old Trafford as Tom Kohler-Cadmore is caught behind from an excellent George Balderson delivery.

Having been 58-1, Somerset have lost three wickets for seven runs and with every point counting in the title race at this stage of the season, they are going to need a major knock from someone to earn 'extras' with the bat.

Earlier on, Lancashire lost their their last seven wickets for 33 runs after going in to lunch on 107-4.

  14. Postpublished at 15:46 British Summer Time 17 September

    Northants 17-0 v Leics 203

The final session is already under way at Wantage Road, where Leicestershire were bowled out a couple of overs short of the scheduled interval and tea was taken slightly early.

A new-look opening pair of Luke Procter and Gus Miller in this match for the home side - and Procter starts the latest Ian Holland over with two fours from the first three balls.

  15. Tea at Canterburypublished at 15:44 British Summer Time 17 September

    Kent v Notts 271-3

A much more even session, but Notts are in the more commanding position.

Ben Slater remains on 146, but saw three partners dismissed during the afternoon.

  16. wicket

WICKET Lammonby c Bell b Williams 36published at 15:42 British Summer Time 17 September

    Lancs 140 v Somerset 60-3

Wickets in successive overs for Lancashire as Tom Lammonby is caught at first slip off Will Williams.

That was very much not what Somerset wanted this close to tea and Tom Kohler-Cadmore comes out for an awkward mini-session of a couple of overs.

  17. Tea at Bristolpublished at 15:42 British Summer Time 17 September

    Glos 109 v Sussex 54-1

A couple of singles for Sussex from the final over before tea at Bristol and they will very content with the match situation at this point.

Having bowled out Gloucestershire in 43.4 overs, they lost Oli Carter for 10, caught behind off Zaman Akhter.

But Tom Haines (25 not out) and Tom Clark (19 not out) prevented any further damage before the interval and they will be looking to push on towards a healthy lead in the final session.

  18. Tea at The Ovalpublished at 15:42 British Summer Time 17 September

    Surrey v Durham 207-6

That wicket of Bas de Leede just before the break probably gives Surrey the whip hand on this opening day.

Durham were in huge trouble at 134-5 - after an opening stand of 60 - but de Leede, 36, and Colin Ackermann, who walks off 38 not out at the break, have brought Durham back into the day.

  19. 'Inconsistent bounce challenging batters'published at 15:38 British Summer Time 17 September

    Derbyshire 173 v Middlesex - tea

    Kevin Hand
    BBC Radio London

Middlesex found a more consistent line and length in the afternoon session and were fully rewarded on a pitch that is offering plenty to the seamers.

The Derbyshire collapse of 6-3 was unexpected but the bounce has been inconsistent throughout, while there has also been movement off the grassy surface.

Middlesex wicketkeeper Jack Davies has been left reeling on a number of occasions by balls that have kept low and struck him on the wrist, having bounced on a second occasion once past the batter.

It's a 'you miss and I hit' pitch and Derbyshire will surely be more relentless in bowling wicket-to-wicket than the visitors were in the morning session.

The approach of opening pair Sam Robson and Mark Stoneman in reply will be interesting, given the number of batters struck on the glove. It's a must win match for Middlesex and if wickets start to tumble in a similar fashion then the visitors may have to counter with an aggressive response.

  20. wicket

WICKET Vaughan c Hurst b Balderson 21published at 15:36 British Summer Time 17 September

    Lancs 140 v Somerset 58-2

A disappointing dismissal for Archie Vaughan.

The 18-year-old tries to cut an ordinary delivery from George Balderson but a thin edge is safely taken by Matty Hurst.

Somerset won't want any further setbacks before tea as Tom Abell comes to the crease.
