  1. 'Ben Coad departs with no runs'published at 16:49 British Summer Time 9 May

    Essex v Yorks 176-8

    Victoria Polley
    BBC Essex Sports Editor

It looked like a nothing shot, Ben Coad will depart without scoring.

He looks very dejected as he walks off. It was such a calm catch as Jamie Porter just had to wait for it to come to him.

We could tell he wasn't a happy bunny up here as he walked back to the pavilion.

  2. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 71.5 overs

    Webster b Lawrence 15 (Warks 281-4 v Surrey)

    Well, well, well....

That is a very loose defensive stroke by Beau Webster, who is bowled through the gate by one from Dan Lawrence which turns back from outside off stump.

Given the number of overs he is sending down these days, it's probably time to start calling Lawrence an all-rounder.

  3. wicket

WICKETpublished at 16:44 British Summer Time 9 May

    Coad c Porter b Critchley 0 (Essex v Yorkshire 176-8)

Meanwhile, the clatter of Yorkshire wickets continues at the other end.

Matt Critchley has his third now as Ben Coad slaps him into the hands of midwicket without scoring.

Dan Moriarty is next in for the visitors.

  4. 50 runs

50 for James Whartonpublished at 16:43 British Summer Time 9 May

    Essex v Yorks 176-7

James Wharton (Yorkshire)Image source, Rex Features

A well-deserved half-century for James Wharton, who cuts Kasun Rajitha for four to get there from 138 balls.

Wharton's been at the crease for more than three hours and is holding this Yorkshire innings together at the moment after their middle-order collapse.

It's the 24-year-old's eighth first-class 50 and his second this season.

  5. Postpublished at 70 overs

    Warks 272-3 v Surrey

Quality shot by Tom Latham who on-drives Jordan Clark for four.

The New Zealander is now into the 90s.

  6. Postpublished at 16:37 British Summer Time 9 May

    Kent v Glamorgan 285-4

Ben Kellaway eases a full delivery from Grant Stewart through the covers for four. He is 33 not out and Colin Ingram has 60.

  7. wicket

WICKETpublished at 16:32 British Summer Time 9 May

    Bess lbw b Rajitha 3 (Essex v Yorkshire 169-7)

The Yorkshire slide continues - they're now seven down.

Dom Bess leaves alone a ball from Kasun Rajitha that pings back and strikes him on the back leg and up goes the umpire's finger.

James Wharton in real danger of running out of partners as Essex turn the screw. Ben Coad is his latest.

  8. wicket

WICKETpublished at 16:31 British Summer Time 9 May

    Bohannon c Harrison b Sanderson 0 (Northants 238 v Lancs 20-2)

Josh Bohannon usually scores big runs against Northamptonshire, but he won't make any today.

Lancashire's no 3 is on his way, caught low at third slip off a Ben Sanderson delivery that left him.

Momentum very much with the home side now - especially if they can get rid of incoming batter Marcus Harris cheaply as well.

  9. 200 runs

200 up for Nottspublished at 16:30 British Summer Time 9 May

    Notts 200-5 v Hants

Lyndon James strokes a drive to the cover boundary where it is gathered to limit the damage to a single and Notts have 200 on the board.

At 82-4 Notts would have taken this like a shot.

  10. Stress fracture confirmed for Boothpublished at 16:29 British Summer Time 9 May

    Warks 266-3 v Surrey

Warwickshire are going along nicely at Edgbaston, but the news of one of their players isn't great.

Pace bowler Michael Booth is not involved in this game and will miss "several weeks" of the season because of a stress fracture in his ankle.

Booth has taken 16 wickets in four Championship games this season and we wish him a speedy recovery and return to action.

  11. Back under way at Trent Bridgepublished at 16:28 British Summer Time 9 May

    Notts 195-5 v Hants

Brad Wheal to Lyndon James to get the evening session up and running and the Nottinghamshire all-rounder kicks us off with a gloriously elegant cover drive for four.

  12. 'Exactly what Essex wanted'published at 16:25 British Summer Time 9 May

    Essex v Yorks 161-6

    Sophia Smale
Cricketer for Essex Women on BBC Essex

He might not have got a wicket but he's got a catch to his name.

He's top-edged it, it almost looked like it came to him a bit quicker than expected. He's top-edged it up into the air and Simon Harmer has got an easy catch.

That's exactly what Essex would have wanted straight after tea.

  13. 6 runs

for Carsonpublished at 16:20 British Summer Time 9 May

    Sussex 223-9 v Worcs

Jack Carson is clearly aware Sussex have no further options at nine down and releases the handbrake to launch a maximum over cow corner off the bowling of Ben Allison.

  14. wicket

WICKETpublished at 16:19 British Summer Time 9 May

    Revis c Harmer b Critchley 10 (Essex v Yorkshire 157-6)

Essex's Matt Critchley (R)Image source, Rex Features

Not the best wicket-taking ball Matt Critchley has ever delivered, but he'll gladly take the outcome...

The leg-spinner drops it short, Matt Revis decides to try and thrash it away on the leg side and instead gets a top edge that soars to point, where Simon Harmer collects the easiest of catches.

Yorkshire continue to struggle and Dom Bess comes out to try and help James Wharton turn things around.

  15. Postpublished at 16:17 British Summer Time 9 May

    Warks 256-3 v Surrey

    Glorious.

Beau Webster opens his account with a superbly timed cover drive off Matthew Fisher for four.

Not even Rory Burns' speed over the ground can deny the Australian on that occasion.

  16. wicket

WICKETpublished at 16:15 British Summer Time 9 May

    Bell lbw b Guthrie 0 (Northants 238 v Lancs 5-1)

    Liam Guthrie's impressive afternoon continues!

Having hammered his best first-class score of 43 to bolster the Northants total, the left-arm seamer strikes in the second over of the Lancashire reply.

George Bell is plumb in front of his stumps for a duck, trapped by a Guthrie inswinger.

Josh Bohannon comes to the middle for the Red Rose.

  17. wicket

WICKETpublished at 16:13 British Summer Time 9 May

    Karvelas c Waite b Allison 20 (Sussex 211-9 v Worcs)

The eyes lit up and the ball is despatched (mistimed) down the throat of deep midwicket.

Aristedes Karvelas had done really well to that point, adding 24 with Jack Carson, but he has looked to put that over the midwicket rope and not quite got hold of it.

    Matthew Waite takes the catch.

  18. Postpublished at 16:11 British Summer Time 9 May

    Warks 251-3 v Surrey

Jordan Clark has five deliveries left to bowl after dismissing Sam Hain immediately before tea.

Australian Beau Webster is the new Warwickshire batsman, with Tom Latham on 84 not out at the other end.

  19. Tea at Trent Bridgepublished at 16:10 British Summer Time 9 May

    Notts 195-5 v Hants

Plenty of credit due to Freddie McCann as the players leave the field at the end of the afternoon session.

The 20-year-old has offered few chances against a decent Hants bowling performance and moved to 72 at tea.

Lyndon James survived after offering a very difficult chance to James Fuller at third slip.

He is on 16, the partnership is up to 35 and Notts are rebuilding steadily.

  20. 150 runs

150 up for Yorkshirepublished at 16:10 British Summer Time 9 May

    Essex v Yorks 151-5

James Wharton moves the Yorkshire total beyond 150 in the first over after tea, nudging Kasun Rajitha for a couple on the off side.

Wharton has 43 to his name and is looking well set after a slow start - and Yorkshire will be looking to him to turn that base into something substantial.
