Pace has dominated proceedings in Benoni historically in women's T20 cricket. Pace bowlers take a wicket every 19 balls (avg 23), compared to spinners who strike every 37 deliveries (avg 48).

  2. Eng 15-2published at 2 overs

Nat Sciver-Brunt is the batter with England in a bit of a hole.

It looks like a good pitch though so there should be plenty of runs out there.

Credit to Ayanda Hlubi, who began the over with a wide and successive boundaries, but hit back in style.

  3. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 1.5 overs

    Dunkley b Hlubi 0 (Eng 15-2)

Castled! Sophia Dunkley departs for a two-ball duck.

It is slightly back of a length from Ayanda Hlubi and Dunkley isn't sure whether to go back or forward. In the end she tentatively pushes at the ball and it flicks off an inside edge before smashing into the stumps.

What a frustrating end to Maia Bouchier's innings and she will be so disappointed. There were so many runs out there for her to get.

Tazmin Brits is such an athletic fielder so she was never going to miss a simple catch at mid-wicket.

  5. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 1.3 overs

    Bouchier c Brits b Hlubi 9 (Eng 15-1)

Maia Bouchier will be furious with herself as that is a very soft dismissal.

After hitting back-to-back boundaries the England opener just loops one up to mid-wicket, with Tazmin Brits taking a smart catch low down.

Of the 13 times England have batted first this year in T20I cricket, they have won 11 (85%) - their highest bat first win percentage in a calendar year since 2019 (89%).

  7. Eng 11-0published at 1.1 overs

Ayanda Hlubi, who struggled with her accuracy in the first game, begins with a wide before serving up a half-volley that Maia Bouchier dispatches through the covers.

That absolutely raced to the rope.

Maia Bouchier will feel like she needs runs; she was unable to get going in the last game. She isn't the best runner so she needs to lean on Danni Wyatt-Hodge to get her through the first part of this game.

  9. Eng 6-0published at 1 over

Lovely shot from Danni Wyatt-Hodge, who plays a lovely cut that flies over backward point and to the rope. She had missed out on a juicy half-volley the previous ball, but made no mistake this time.

Eliz-Mari Marx responds with a well directed bouncer that forces Wyatt-Hodge to take evasive action.

This pitch looks to have a bit of life in it.

The average winning first innings score in Benoni in women's T20 cricket is 160 - that should be the target for England.

There was a bit of rain around earlier but it is now a lovely sunny early evening in Benoni, with a fairly strong breeze billowing across the ground.

The national anthems have just taken place and we are now ready to go.

Danni Wyatt-Hodge and Maia Bouchier are opening up for England. Eliz-Mari Marx has the ball for South Africa.

The first game was decent for England but they will definitely want to get better. They were sloppy in the field, although Sophie Ecclestone showed us why she is the best in the world.

England will be looking for other batters to come to the party; they feel very reliant on Nat Sciver-Brunt at the moment.

  13. Smale and Macdonald-Gay added to squadpublished at 16:00 Greenwich Mean Time

England have added two players to their squad since Sunday's win.

Wicketkeeper-batter Seren Smale has been added to the T20 and Test squads to act as back-up wicketkeeper to Amy Jones, after Bess Heath returned home with a fractured thumb.

Seamer Ryana Macdonald-Gay has only been added to the squad for the Test match between 15 and 18 December which concludes the multi-format series.

England spinner Sophie Ecclestone: "It was amazing to get the first win on the board after the World Cup. It was quite scrappy so we're looking for a more complete performance today.

"It was nice for me and Charlie [Dean] to bowl together on that pitch which suited spinners. We want to be fearless and show everyone just how good we are."

South Africa all-rounder Nadine de Klerk: "We played really well for most of the game on Sunday but England handled the pressure better than us at the end with their two very experienced players in Amy Jones and Nat Sciver-Brunt.

"It was ours to lose through most of that game but we lost a few key moments. We felt like 140 was around par but we were confident of defending that total.

"We've just got to tighten up on a few small areas and get back in the series today. It will be different conditions here, probably more suitable for batters, but we're focusing on putting partnerships together with both bat and ball."

England captain Heather Knight: "I think we played some good cricket the other day but there were things we could do better. We have made just one change today, with Lauren Filer in for Lauren Bell. I am excited to see how she goes.

"The pitch is going to be a bit quicker here, hopefully with a bit more bounce. Lauren she brings something different and has been working on her accuracy, so we wanted to have a little look at her today to see how it goes."
