  1. That's all for day one as Notts close on titlepublished at 19:00 BST 24 September

If Notts started the day with a hand on one handle of a seventh Division One Championship title and a first since 2010, they finish it with a second hand touching the other.

With Hants in control against Surrey at Southampton, and assuming Notts can keep up their over–rate, Haseeb Hameed's side are within two points of the title.

They will resume on day two with the bat needing 300 to seal the deal on bonus points alone. If they don't manage that they still have a chance via a win or draw.

Surrey gave the impression their title ambitions were punctured irreparably by the Notts defeat in the penultimate round as they were bullied by Hants at Southampton.

Durham and Yorkshire who shared the spoils at Headingley, and the aforementioned Hants, all remain in the relegation mixer going into the second day with the ECB structural review confirming nothing will change and two still go down.

So much to play for with three days of the season still to play and we are back to follow every six, four, ooh and aagh on day two.

Join us from 10:00 BST tomorrow for all the action.

  2. 'Workmanlike' Notts 'tantalisingly poised'published at 18:45 BST 24 September

    Notts v Warwicks 258

    Richard Wilford
    BBC Radio WM commentator

    A workmanlike performance from Notts.

Warwickshire did well to get to lunch in the position they did, but the hosts have kept chipping away and then used the new ball well.

You feel for Dan Mousley, but Notts are tantalisingly poised in their search for the title.

  3. Bears all out and close of play at Trent Bridgepublished at 18:45 BST 24 September

Brett Hutton will see out the day - one way or another.

Dan Mousley swings hard to deep mid-wicket... No run taken.

A slap through the off side and again no run. Leg side again. No run.

Got him! Dan Mousley lofts the ball to long on and he's caught by Dillon Pennington. He's out for 74.

258 all out. One batting point for the Bears and three bowling points for Notts, who are in a great position to wrap up the Couunty Championship Division One title tomorrow.

Just a couple more points needed.

Warwickshire lurch from 244-5 to 258.

Notts have fought back like champions.

    Notts v Warwicks 258-9

Can Mo Abbas finish the innings off here?

Dan Mousley pushes through the on side and doesn't take the run.

He could have a single pretty much anywhere really and pushes to cover, again declining the run.

He angles the bat and nudges a single to leg.

Hesitation and the two isn't quite there.

Three balls left on the over. Nathan Gilchrist blocks out the over.

    One more left.

  5. Postpublished at 18:34 BST 24 September

    Notts v Warwicks 257-9

Great ball from Brett Hutton, bbeating the defensive bat and uprooting the off stump of Taz Ali.

Four balls left in the over. Nathan Gilchrist blocks.

He taps safely into the on side.

He sees out the over. Two left tonight.

    Ali b Hutton 5 (Notts v Warwicks 257-9)

Brett Hutton bowls to Dan Mousley.

He pushes the first ball down the ground for one. Perhaps he has more confidence in Taz Ali after that very deft shot through mid wicket in the previous over.

Oh dear... Bowled him! Brett Hutton takes his 350th wicket and that's the third bowling bonus point for Notts.

    Nathan Gilchrist is in.

  7. Postpublished at 18:28 BST 24 September

    Notts v Warwicks 256-8

Very straight from Mo Abbas, who has Taz Ali in compact block mode down the ground.

He tries to leave a very tight third delivery that cannot have missed off stump by much more than an inch and jabs the ball off the face of the bat into the ground.

Well! The fifth ball is leg side and glanced neatly through mid wicket for four runs. He sees out the over.

  8. Postpublished at 18:25 BST 24 September

    Notts v Warwicks 252-8

What can Dan Mousley do now? The field is set deep.

Here comes Brett Hutton. Mousley pushes into the off side for no run.

He takes a single off the third ball, clipping to mid wicket.

Three slips in for Taz Ali, who blocks into the leg side.

Hmm. A bit of width outside off stump and Ali taps the ball away for a single to keep the strike.

  9. Close of play at New Roadpublished at 18:21 BST 24 September

    Worcs 123 v Sussex 228-5

James Coles scored a fourth century of the campaign

End of proceedings at New Road where bad light brought a slightly premature close.

Worcs are already down and if they were hoping for a bounce from Saturday's Metro Bank One Day Cup win they did not get it.

They lost two wickets in the first over to go 1-2 and were 18-3, 36-4 and 71-6. The battle was uphill all the way.

A glimmer of hope shone when Ben Allison with three wickets and Tom Taylor reduced Sussex to 67-4 but a brilliant 102 from James Coles in a 145-run partnership with John Simpson snuffed it out.

Sussex lead by 105 with five wickets still up and Worcs are heading for a Division One exit with tails between legs.

  10. Postpublished at 18:21 BST 24 September

    Notts v Warwicks 250-8

Three slips in. Taz Ali blocks out the hat trick ball.

He sees out the over with a play and miss defending from the crease.

    Still five overs left tonight.

  11. 'No better sight'published at 18:19 BST 24 September

    Notts v Warwicks 250-8

    Dave Bracegirdle
    BBC Radio Nottingham commentator

There's no better sight for a fast bowler than stumps cartwheeling.

    Bamber b Abbas 0 (Notts v Warwicks 250-8)

Notts couldn't polish this innings off tonight, could they?

Five overs remain after this one.

Bowled him first ball! Top of the off peg.

Mo Abbas has ripped out the off stump of Ethan Bamber!

Straight through him. Hat trick ball coming. Taz Ali will face.

Will Nottinghamshire bowl out Warwickshire tonight?

You wouldn't put it past Mohammad Abbas with a new ball in his hand.

  14. wicket

    Booth LBW b Abbas 1 (Notts v Warwicks 250-7)

Second ball! Mo Abbas has his second wicket of the innings.

Michael Booth is struck on the crease in front of his off stump.

Time for Ethan Bamber to have a bat.

  15. new ball

New ball taken by Nottspublished at 18:13 BST 24 September

    Notts v Warwicks 250-6

Are we taking the new ball? Yes.

    Mo Abbas is coming on.

  16. Postpublished at 18:12 BST 24 September

    Notts v Warwicks 250-6

We play on. Michael Booth clips Lyndon James for his first run - away to backward square leg.

Dan Mousley drives expansively down the ground for four.

A stylish way to bring up the innings 250 in 80 overs - and of course a batting point.

  17. ouch!

Mousley hit by return throwpublished at 18:10 BST 24 September

    Notts v Warwicks 245-6

Two bowling bonus points for Notts, now very close to wrapping up the Division One Championship title.

Could they do it tomorrow with the bat?

For now Dan Mousley drives Lyndon James, runs and is hit on the helmet by a return throw. That ball appeared to loop up off the thigh.

He seems fine but there will be a concussion check nonetheless.

  18. Close of play at Southamptonpublished at 18:10 BST 24 September

    Hants 154-3 v Surrey 147

Ben Brown plays out four dots from Rahul Chahar to bring the curtain down on a day on which Surrey's fight never really showed up despite the mathematical chance of overhauling Notts at the top of the table.

A side missing so many stars, either through centrally contracted duty, injury or illness, never seemed to have the belief as they slumped to 147 all out.

It was a poor effort after winning the toss and choosing to bat for all that Kyle Abbott with 3-27 and James Fuller with 3-47 deserve credit for hoovering up cheap Surrey wickets.

With the bat Hants have cleared the Surrey effort by seven runs at the close with all five of the men in getting starts and passing 20.

Hants have three bowling points and Surrey on with the ball.

  19. 'A big partnership for Notts to break'published at 18:07 BST 24 September

    Notts v Warwicks 244-6

    Melinda Farrell
Sports broadcaster/journalist on BBC Radio Nottinghamshire

Barnard batted really well, but just chipped it back to Patterson-White.

He will be disappointed, but that's a big partnership for Nottinghamshire to break.

    Barnard c&b Patterson-White 48 (Notts v Warwicks 244-6)

    Out of nowhere!

Ed Barnard is forward, chipping a return catch to left-arm spin bowler Liam Patterson-White.

The umpires confer. It isn't a bump ball and he's on his way off the field.

Michael Booth is in the middle.
