    Surrey 168-5 v Warwickshire

    Mike Taylor
    BBC WM commentator

That was Nathan Gilchrist's first wicket for Warwickshire and he will feel he's earned it. He found the edge repeatedly this morning.

  2. Postpublished at 14:18 British Summer Time 8 September

    Sussex v Hants 117-4

Fynn Hudson-Prentice is into his eighth over of the innings and Tom Prest miscues an off drive, sending the ball into mid on albeit safely.

    Maiden over.

Jordan Clark came out swinging, cutting a loose ball from Nathan Gilchrist away for four first up, only to then flash an edge off a huge swing through to Will Young, another debutant, who takes his second catch at chest height.

Two in three balls for Gilchrist, who has bowled well.

Gus Atkinson is the new man. He has calibre, of course, but his side need him to do a job here.

  4. rain stops play

Rain stops play at Tauntonpublished at 14:15 British Summer Time 8 September

    Somerset 155-3 v Yorkshire

We did warn you this morning about possible rain in the west and it has arrived.

James Rew is 54 not out for Somerset and Tom Abell has three. Let's hope this won't be a long interruption.

  5. Pears counter-attack with Taylor and Roderickpublished at 14:14 British Summer Time 8 September

    Worcs 139-7 v Notts

Tom Taylor is on the back foot to Josh Tongue, flaying the pace bowler through point for four runs.

He gets four more off a less convincing shot, top-edging a pull over the slips - and that brings up a precious 50 partnership with Gareth Roderick off 67 balls.

Vital stand in the context of this match.

    Lawrence lbw b Gilchrist 20 - Surrey 168-5 v Warwickshire

    Dan Lawrence's torment is over.

He shuffles across to make some room but then plays across the line and is thumped infront by Nathan Gilchrist, on his Bears first class debut.

Jordan Clark is the new batter, with Surrey left with work to do.

  7. Postpublished at 14:10 British Summer Time 8 September

    Surrey 164-4 v Warwickshire

The Bears Ba-Ba bowling partnership after lunch has been broken up to give them a rest.

Ollie Hannon-Dalby has taken the ball and has a big appeal for lbw against Ryan Patel after thumping him just above the knee roll with the bat nowhere near, looks like it's outside just the line though.

Patel has a breezy 22 at a run a ball, aided by four boundaries, while it's still scratch from Dan Lawrence who has 16* from 48 deliveries.

Sprinkling of rain at the Oval, but looks light enough that it shouldn't cause any delays...

  8. wicket

WICKET Kellaway b Harrison 23published at 14:09 British Summer Time 8 September

    Northants v Glamorgan 164-5

    Calvin Harrison strikes for Northants.

The leg spinner foxes Ben Kellaway, who attempts a sweep and is bowled around his legs.

Chris Cooke joins Asa Tribe in the middle - who is 91 not out.

    Sussex v Hants 107-4

Ollie Robinson is showing how much Sussex have missed him in their last two County Championship defeats.

In an injury interrupted season, Robinson is playing just his eighth Championship game and his absence has coincided with Sussex slipping down the table.

His former team-mate and skipper Ben Brown is doing his best to stem the flow of wickets, but at this stage, on a pitch offering some help to the seamers, Sussex are on top.

  10. 'Another important partnership for Gloucestershire'published at 14:06 British Summer Time 8 September

    Leics v Glos 160-3

    Ed Seabourne
    Commentator on BBC Radio Bristol

Even at 160-3 this is another important partnership for Gloucestershire as far as doing what they want to do which, having batted first, is putting a commanding score on the board.

Not just get a score but really make use of scoreboard pressure and get that score up towards, if they can, 400, that's what they'll want to do to try and attempt to dominate the game from there.

  11. Postpublished at 14:05 British Summer Time 8 September

    Worcs 129-7 v Notts

Josh Tongue (who took two in two balls this morning) is back in the attack with two slips and a gully.

Gareth Roderick blocks an attempted yorker into the off side and is struck on the pad by a shorter ball that jags in ans strikes a painful blow on the hip.

Very much a key bowler for Notts today. Ouch.

  12. Postpublished at 14:04 British Summer Time 8 September

    Essex v Durham 166-1

Essex need a wicket, and Simon Harmer is backing himself to get one, coming on, shades wrapped around his face, of course, after a five-over spell before lunch.

This partnership between Alex Lees and Ben McKinney is 111, the sun is out, the pitch looks solid, the new ball is 39 overs away, Durham are haring towards bonus points... big phase of this match before tea, you feel.

  13. Postpublished at 14:01 British Summer Time 8 September

    Leics v Glos 160-3

Leicestershire recall Josh Hull for his second spell of the game.

The left-armer took 2-21 this morning, what can he do with an older ball?

The two batters exchange three singles before Miles Hammond clips the ball through mid-wicket for four to move to 44 not out.

  14. 'An excellent innings by Kohler-Cadmore'published at 13:59 British Summer Time 8 September

    Somerset 147-3 v Yorks

    Annie Chave
    BBC Somerset

Tom Kohler-Cadmore is a very positive opener. Somerset have had a lot of problems with their openers for the past few seasons now and he just gives that positive edge.

You live by the sword and die by the sword and that was very much the case but an excellent innings by Kohler-Cadmore.

  15. Postpublished at 13:59 British Summer Time 8 September

    Sussex v Hants 104-4

We have a "ground delay" as the umpires are a bit worried about the reflection of sunlight off some surfaces in the batter's eye-line.

Drinks are coming on and this could be a bit of a gap.

Three members of the ground staff have run to one end of the pitch with a large sheet.

  16. Postpublished at 13:56 British Summer Time 8 September

    Surrey 148-4 v Warwickshire

Surrey were 127-3 from 26 overs at lunch, they are 21-1 in 12 overs since lunch.

Credit to Ethan Bamber and Ed Barnard who have been probing and probing and not allowing Dan Lawrence and Ryan Patel to settle for a moment.

  17. Postpublished at 13:56 British Summer Time 8 September

    Worcs 117-7 v Notts

Dillon Pennington is back in the attack and Tom Taylor nudges a quick ball to leg for a single.

Roderick is hit on the pad trying to glance the last ball away but survives the LBW shout.

  18. wicket

    WICKET Kohler-Cadmore c Hill b Thompson 76published at 37.4 overs

    Somerset 147-3 v Yorks

What's that phrase about living by the sword?

As he has throughout his innings, Tom Kohler-Cadmore tries to get down the track but the ball lifts more than he expects and George Hill pulls in a good, shoulder-high catch at first slip.

A wicket for Jordan Thompson, who is leaving Yorkshire for Warwickshire at the end of the season.

  19. Postpublished at 13:51 British Summer Time 8 September

    Essex v Durham 160-1

Alex Lees has a look at two deliveries with the newish ball and then hits the third to the deep square leg rope - the 30th boundary of the innings.

He is onto 80* with Ben McKinney 55* at the other end.

  20. wicket

WICKET Albert c Coles b Albert 22published at 13:51 British Summer Time 8 September

    Sussex v Hants 104-4

Ollie Robinson strikes with his second ball of the session!

Toby Albert is undone by a bumper that he tries to pull away and he's gloved it at shoulder height to second slip.

Tom Prest takes guard next and is nearly cut in half by another bumper that jags off the seam.
