  1. 'He's fallen for the obvious trap'published at 18:01 British Summer Time 29 July

    Notts v Somerset 338-4

    Dave Bracegirdle
    BBC Radio Nottingham commentator

He's fallen for the fairly obvious trap there.

Could anything have been anymore telegraphed?

Tom Abell decided to take him on and just couldn't pull the shot.

  2. wicket

WICKETpublished at 17:58 British Summer Time 29 July

    Abell c James b Pennington 156 (Notts v Somerset 338-4)

313 the partnership ends on as Tom Abell eventually falls to a short ball from Dillon Pennington for his career-best score of 156 off 254 balls.

    Pulled to deep fine leg.

Jack Leach comes out for the last 2.5 overs maximum.

James Rew is 162* so it is dual left-handers now.

  3. Division Two latestpublished at 17:57 British Summer Time 29 July

Play has ended early at Cheltenham College between Gloucestershire and Middlesex due to rain.

The visitors close on 232-3 with Kane Williamson 104 not out.

They're also off for bad light at Kent where league leaders Leicestershire are 366-9.

Derbyshire's superb lower-order fightback at Northants continues. They're 345-8, having been 89-5 before lunch.

At Old Trafford there are just a couple of overs remaining. Glamorgan are 259-8 against Lancashire.

  4. 'That changes things'published at 17:55 British Summer Time 29 July

    Durham 153 v Surrey 110-4

    Mark Church
    BBC Radio London commentator

That changes things, it was neatly taken by Ackermann.

Patel will be so annoyed at himself, just as we thought it was all settled down.

He's got through the tough times under the cloud, but was just looking to force that one.

  5. wicket

WICKETpublished at 17:54 British Summer Time 29 July

    Patel c Ackermann b Parkinson 58 (Durham 153 v Surrey 110-4)

A loose shot from Ryan Patel who it did not seem likely would do such a thing.

He is devastated, he looked set to bat to the close whilst scoring nicely too, but he hits it straight to Colin Ackermann's two hands ready by his midriff.

Leaning back, not in control, edging fast to first slip.

83 was the partnership between him and Dan Lawrence.

  6. That's a record!published at 17:50 British Summer Time 29 July

    Notts v Somerset 337-3

A new all-time fourth wicket record partnership of 311 eclipsing the 310 that Ian Botham and Peter Denning put on in 1980!

Tom Abell and James Rew just keep on going, keep being congratulated and keep scoring runs getting their side closer to a very rare maximum batting bonus points tomorrow morning perhaps?

A lovely back cut for two from Abell gets them there off the returning Dillon Pennington who has rarely got his areas quite right today.

It also takes Abell past the 152* he scored in that incredible day four chase vs Warwickshire last year, for his career-best first-class score.

  7. Update at New Roadpublished at 17:47 British Summer Time 29 July

    Worcs v Hants 127-0

There are players on the pitch warming up and the word is that play is set to resume at 6pm with a minumum of 11 overs to be bowled this evening.

  8. 'It's been measured, it's been pragmatic'published at 17:45 British Summer Time 29 July

    Notts v Somerset 328-3

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

It's the 300 partnership, what a classy partnership.

It's been measured, it's been pragmatic.

150 up Tom Abell, they just need to concentrate and not give it away at the close.

  9. wicket

WICKETpublished at 17:44 British Summer Time 29 July

    Critchley c Smith b Bamber 19 (Essex 316-4 v Warwickshire)

A wild swipe from Matt Critchley and a bottom edge flies through to the keeper Kai Smith.

That seemed a bit of a giveaway considering Essex have been tracking along nicely at five an over since the last wicket.

  10. 150 runs

for Abellpublished at 17:44 British Summer Time 29 July

    Notts v Somerset 328-3

This partnership has been special, as has the way in which they have dovetailed off each other.

James Rew is unlikely to be caught by his senior partner now, but Tom Abell will not worry in the slightest, more than happy to just be batting almost like for like.

Just now they had both faced exactly 244 balls and Abell's individual score was just nine runs less than his younger, more innovative partner.

A classy guide past the cordon for four is a very apt way for this classy batter to get there.

303 runs off 467 balls these two have scored together

  11. 50 runs

for Patelpublished at 17:40 British Summer Time 29 July

    Durham 153 v Surrey 94-3

Ryan Patel is cutting loose now having done the hard yards earlier this afternoon.

Taking Callum Parkinson for a four and a six in his last over going for 11.

It could be argued that Patel is underrated, but he's outperforming three Test batters, albeit of course easier once the Kookaburra ball gets softer and older.

  12. Postpublished at 17:40 British Summer Time 29 July

    Yorks v Sussex 188-9

Danny Lamb (29) and Gurinder Sandhu (13) are frustrating Yorkshire with this last wicket partnership which has now lasted an hour and 17 minutes.

After taking 7-58 to take them to the brink this pair have put on 38 and are in danger of souring the taste of dinner for the Yorkshire squad for all that openers might not fancy a short spell in the crosshairs tonight.

  13. 'A very classy innings'published at 17:33 British Summer Time 29 July

    Notts v Somerset 311-3

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

A very classy innings from James Rew shows why he's rated so highly by the England camp.

That brings the partnership to 285 now.

  14. 150 runs

for Rewpublished at 17:32 British Summer Time 29 July

    Notts v Somerset 311-3

Remember he had that double ton vs Mo Abbas down in Taunton when Shoaib Bashir even whacked a few with him at the end.

Well he could challenge that score tomorrow, currently he is 150* from 239 balls with 12 fours and three sixes.

What a classy knock, and he may well go through the gears in the remaining 8.4 overs today now and at least 14 more overs tomorrow morning if he can stay there that long.

  15. 300 runs

300 for Essexpublished at 17:27 British Summer Time 29 July

    Essex 303-3 v Warwickshire

Tom Westley bullies a leg stump half volley to the square leg boundary and another batting point (a second) is in the bag.

The new ball has not conspicuously improved Warwickshire's fortunes and, if anything, it is racing off the bat quicker now.

  16. dropped catch

Dropped catch & a second Somerset bonus pointpublished at 17:26 British Summer Time 29 July

    Notts v Somerset 303-3

A hard chance, but a rare sniff of a chance really that James Rew has given.

On 148 he slashes at a wide ball, a full-blooded cut very quickly through to second slip.

That would have been a Wharton-esque worldie, but we know that Cavin Harrison is capable, great effort to save runs nonetheless.

    278 this partnership is now!

  17. Still raining at New Roadpublished at 17:25 British Summer Time 29 July

    Worcs v Hants 127-0

No improvement in the conditions at Worcester. In fact, if anything, it is looking gloomier than when they went off, or more accurately, didn't come back on after tea.

Umpires are out in the middle standing, swinging their brollies like Charlie Chaplin, but not looking like they are preparing to go out again.

  18. 'Notts need to try something new'published at 17:22 British Summer Time 29 July

    Notts v Somerset 296-3

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

You wonder whether short-ball attack may be worth trying at James Rew, he does like playing the hook-shot.

He can sometimes hit it in the air.

You feel Notts will need to try something new.

  19. new ball

New ballpublished at 17:17 British Summer Time 29 July

    Essex 287-3 v Warwickshire

Oli Hannon-Dalby has the second new ball in hand and new batsman Matt Critchley in his sights as Warwickshire try to find weakness in this Essex wall.

  20. new ball

New ballpublished at 17:15 British Summer Time 29 July

    Yorks v Sussex 174-9

Jack White already has 3-20 and has the second new ball in hand as Yorkshire seek to nick this last wicket.
