Sam Cook celebrates the wicket of Hamza ShaikhImage source, Rex Features

Essex seamer Sam Cook has been irresistible this morning as the visitors have ruthlessly turned the screw on Warwickshire.

The 27-year-old has taken three wickets – two clean bowled and another caught at second slip – and has looked virtually unplayable.

    His figures are currently 4-2-3-3.

    Northants 209-4 v Leics 203

Northants have the lead - but Leicestershire have their first wicket of the day at Wantage Road.

Rehan Ahmed traps Rob Keogh leg-before, ending a stand of 117 with James Sales, who is 72 not out as he is joined by Saif Zaib.

Time for another look at the ball.

Three boxes manufactured by a company whose name is the plural of a Genesis album title are brought out to the middle.

We have a delay. Can they find a round one?

Meanwhile, umpire Steve O'Shaughnessy is doing his best impression of Mighty Boosh character Johnny Two Hats.

    Luke FletcherImage source, Rex Features

    Straight to the man!

Luke Fletcher sends down a short ball and Tawanda Muyeye can't resist, throwing his hands at it.

Unfortunately for the Kent opener he helps it into the onside straight to Rob Lord who has been sent there by skipper Haseeb Hameed just for that very shot.

A second wicket for Fletcher on his 36th birthday. Bit of a gift.

    Kent 34-1 v Notts 433

New Zealand seamer Jacob Duffy was brought in by Notts for their Championship run-in and is straight into the action.

He's bowling with decent pace, but his opening two overs are a touch expensive.

The Kiwi serves up a half-volley to finish his second over and Daniel Bell-Drummond crunches it through the covers for a second boundary of the over. It costs 13 runs.

  7. Postpublished at 11:49 British Summer Time 18 September

    Lancs 140 & 70-2 v Somerset 146

No obvious turn for Jack Leach in his first over, which costs him a couple of singles.

Double change by Somerset, who call up Kasey Aldridge. Josh Bohannon crashes the seamer through cover for four off the back foot.

  8. HAMPSHIRE ALL OUT FOR 462published at 11:45 British Summer Time 18 September

    Hampshire 462 v Worcs

    Nick GubbinsImage source, Rex Features

Nick Gubbins finishes on 201 not out, equalling his highest score, as Muhammad Abbas is the last man out for Hampshire.

Abbas was caught in the slips by Rob Jones off Logan van Beek and that wraps up Hampshire's first innings - quicker than anyone expected I might add!

I'm not sure the Pears would have thought they would be batting before lunch when play started with Hampshire 373-4.

  9. Postpublished at 11:45 British Summer Time 18 September

    Lancs 140 & 64-2 v Somerset 146

Brilliant work by Craig Overton at second slip.

He dives to his right to deny Josh Bohannon a boundary and shies at the stumps while on the ground.

It narrowly misses and Bohannon would have just about have been safe had it hit.

We are now going to see some spin. Time for Jack Leach.

    Hampshire 461-9 v Worcs

Nick Gubbins brings up his double century in style with consecutive fours off Logan van Beek.

He just about fitted that in before the end of the innings...

    Now then.

Dan Lawrence plays a super drive through extra cover, but is gone next ball.

Bas de Leede sends down a back of a length delivery. Lawrence looks to force it off the back foot, but succeeds only in edging through to David Bedingham at first slip.

Surrey had looked in total control but have now lost three wickets in the last four overs.

    Ben Foakes joins Ryan Patel.

This is becoming embarrassing for the Bears.

Another pearler from Sam Cook, targeting the top of off stump and hitting the bull with Hamza Shaikh playing inside it.

Top order is all but gone.

  13. 200 up for Sussexpublished at 11:41 British Summer Time 18 September

    Northants 196-3 v Leics 203

A boundary for Rob Keogh off Rehan Ahmed brings up a century stand with James Sales at Wantage Road. Keogh now has 43 not out, with his partner on 65.

  15. Fifth batting point for Hampshirepublished at 11:40 British Summer Time 18 September

    Hampshire 452-9 v Worcs

Last man Muhammad Abbas plays a splendid wristy shot for four to bring up 450 for Hampshire and make it maximum batting points - with two balls to spare!

That was clearly the aim this morning so they will be satisfied to have got those extra points in the bag despite losing lots of wickets.

  16. Yorkshire make most of cloud coverpublished at 11:38 British Summer Time 18 September

    Glamorgan 60-4 v Yorkshire 361

    Nick Webb
    BBC Radio Wales

A superb first hour for Yorkshire’s seamers Ben Coad and Matthew Fisher underneath cloudy skies in Cardiff as they reduced Glamorgan to 37-4, needing 212 to avoid the follow-on.

Coad started the procession as he trapped Sam Northeast lbw for 16, continuing the Glamorgan captain’s bizarre poor run of form on home soil in contrast to his away performances.

Fisher then had Asa Tribe caught at slip slashing at a wide delivery that moved late, and an even better delivery found Kiran Carlson’s edge next ball.

With Jonny Bairstow behind the stumps pouching a simple chance to get rid of Ben Kellaway off Coad, Glamorgan were left hoping that the improving weather, and the opening bowlers coming off, would allow a change of fortunes.

  17. wicket

WICKET Burns b Holder 55published at 11:37 British Summer Time 18 September

    Surrey 103-2 v Durham 262

    Big wicket!

Four leg byes bring up the Surrey 100 as Chemar Holder's radar goes awry, sending one way down leg.

Rory Burns has looked pretty comfortable out there, but falls next ball.

Holder is bang on line this time as he moves one back into the left-hander who plays from his crease targeting third man once again.

But this time he looks back in disappointment to se his middle stump knocked back.

    Dan Lawrence joins Ryan Patel.

  18. wicket

WICKET: Hain c Harmer b Porter 1published at 11:37 British Summer Time 18 September

    Warks 78 & 2-3 v Essex 232

    From bad to worse.

Sam Hain gets an inside edge on to his pad and the ball loops up to second slip where Simon Harmer reacts well, taking a lunge forward and pouching a simple catch.

This looks a different game with the ball in Essex hands.

Warwickshire allowed the visitors' last pair to make 60 adding 43 this morning and now they are crumbling.

    This could be over today.

  19. Postpublished at 11:35 British Summer Time 18 September

    Lancs 140 & 58-2 v Somerset 146

Somerset must be concerned about the way Josh Bohannon is settling into his innings. He can be very difficult to dislodge when set.

We have a ball change at Old Trafford. Bohannon drives and a misfield by Lewis Gregory permits a single top take him to 23 not out.

  20. wicket

WICKET Compton lbw b Fletcher 4published at 11:35 British Summer Time 18 September

    Kent 5-1 v Notts 433

Notts will be keen to make early inroads in this huge match in their efforts to avoid relegation.

Luke Fletcher, who is to leave Trent Bridge at the end of the season, gets the new ball honours. Kent opener Tawanda Muyeye faces.

An outside edge gets Muyeye off the mark with a single before Ben Compton is under way first ball, guiding Fletcher away through the offside.

    Then he's gone!

Fletcher pins the Kent opener in front. It looks high, up on the knee roll but umpire Middlebrook gives it.

Awful start for Kent! Daniel Bell-Drummond is in.
