Fletcha Middleton and Toby Albert have just under four overs to face until the close.

  2. Close of play at Bristolpublished at 17:47 British Summer Time 18 September

    Glos 109 & 140-3 v Sussex 311 - Glos trail by 62

We're finished for the day in Bristol, with Gloucestershire trailing by 62 with seven wickets in hand.

Chris Dent's unbeaten 61 has helped moved the hosts closer to parity and he will be the key wicket Sussex are looking for when we come back in the morning.

  3. SURREY ALL OUT FOR 415published at 17:46 British Summer Time 18 September

    Lawes c Lees b Minto 58

Alex Lees takes an absolute worldie to end the Surrey first innings.

Tom Lawes clouts James Minto back over his head towards the long-off boundary, but Lees flings himself at full length to take a brilliant one-handed catch.

Having given the 16-year-old his second wicket, the Durham skipper then runs off quick sharp to get the pads on.

He'll have two awkward overs to negotiate before the close.

Surrey have navigated their way to an emphatic 153-run lead.

Durham had reduced the hosts to 232-6 but a string of dropped catches and a tiring inexperienced attack allowed the champions to get away.

  4. Postpublished at 17:45 British Summer Time 18 September

    Lancs 140 & 286-7 v Somerset 146

Late in the day, it's finally time for Archie Vaughan to have a bowl.

It's an accurate over, costing him only a single, but not much sign of extravagant turn.

  5. wicket

WICKET Hammond c Simpson b Carson 41published at 17:43 British Summer Time 18 September

    Glos 109 & 140-3 v Sussex 311

Miles Hammond had been looking good for a half-century but he falls nine runs short as Jack Carson picks up his second wicket of the innings.

The hosts trail Sussex by 62 as Ed Middleton joins opener Chris Dent (61*) at the crease.

  6. Lawes landmark scorepublished at 17:43 British Summer Time 18 September

    Surrey 413-9 v Durham 262

Tom Lawes moves to his highest first-class score of 56 as he clobbers Callum Parkinson down the ground for six.

Bas de Leede got a hand to it on the boundary, but couldn't stop it dropping over the rope.

It eclipses the 55 he made against Nottinghamshire.

  7. Postpublished at 17:42 British Summer Time 18 September

    Lancs 140 & 285-7 v Somerset 146

Somerset are still smarting from the run out incident a few moments ago and two successive fours for Luke Wells off Kasey Aldridge won't have improved the collective mood.

There are nine overs left in the day's play and Lancashire lead by 279. Two full days to go but this is going to be a tough chase for the second-placed Cider Boys.

These are painful moments for Durham as Surrey's number nine Tom Lawes brings up only his second career first-class fifty.

He punches Callum Parkinson through the covers for a single to bring up the landmark off 76 balls with four fours.

    Well played!

  9. Close of play at Northamptonpublished at 17:39 British Summer Time 18 September

    Northants 383 v Leics 203 & 69-4

Just a single for Scott Currie from the final over of the day at Wantage Road.

But Leicestershire are facing a survival battle on the third day, still 111 behind and with four second-wickets already gone.

Northants added 133 to their overnight 250-4 as James Sales hit 135, his second Championship century of the season.

And with spinner Yuzvendra Chahal (2-22) again looking threatening, they will be hopeful of wrapping this one up in their favour.

  10. Fourth batting point for Surreypublished at 17:38 British Summer Time 18 September

    Surrey 402-9 v Durham 262

Tom Lawes tickles James Minto's first ball of a new over round the corner for four.

He then punches off the back foot for a single to move to 49, wisely turning down a risky second.

Dan Worrall joins in the fun, cutting Minto backward behind point for a boundary which brings up the 400.

  11. Close of play at Derbypublished at 17:37 British Summer Time 18 September

    Derbys 173 & 74-3 v Middx 358

From a wobbling 16-2, Derbyshire had consolidated impressively with Mitchell Wagstaff and Wayne Madsen but they walk off having lost the former with the last ball of the day.

Wagstaff was parachuted in as a concussion substitute for Luis Reece and looked to have grabbed his chance with both hands.

But he has edged a googly from Luke Hollman to Jack Davies with the second ball of the final over and a partnership of 58 with Madsen comes to an end.

Derbyshire remain 111 adrift with seven wickets still remaining against a Middlesex side on top and seeking the win that could keep promotion hopes alive going into the final round.

  12. Hampshire will bat againpublished at 17:36 British Summer Time 18 September

    Hampshire 462 v Worcs 273

Hampshire, leading by 189, have decided not to enforce the follow-on and will bat again.

There are about eight overs left in the day.

  13. 50 runs

50 up for Kentpublished at 17:34 British Summer Time 18 September

    Kent 225 and 55-0 f/o v Notts 433

Tawanda Muyeye brings up the 50 partnership for Kent's opening wicket in style.

He pulls Rob Lord's short ball for a big six to move to 35 off 27 balls.

Muyeye continues on his merry way as he crashes the unfortunate bowler through extra cover for another four.

  14. The run out that wasn'tpublished at 17:33 British Summer Time 18 September

    Lancs 140 & 275-7 v Somerset 146

Don't watch the replay of this later, Somerset fans.

George Balderson comes down the track, has a swing, but makes no contact.

Keeper James Rew can't gather but Craig Overton does at slip and throws down the stumps.

Balderson looks well out but the umpire doesn't spot it and there is no TV review in the County Championship.

  15. WORCESTERSHIRE ALL OUT FOR 273published at 17:30 British Summer Time 18 September

    Hampshire 462 v Worcs 273

Liam Dawson has Joe Leach caught at slip to give him another five-wicket haul and end the Pears innings in double quick time.

That all ended very quickly after Hampshire broke the huge Roderick/Brookes partnership.

The visitors just collapsed after that, losing their last five wickets for 16 runs.

Dawson took 5-88 and Muhammad Abbas 4-27.

We're just waiting to find out if Hampshire will enforce the follow-on.

  16. wicket

WICKET McKerr c Robinson b Minto 10published at 17:29 British Summer Time 18 September

    Surrey 392-9 v Durham 262

A nice moment for James Minto!

The 16-year-old picks up his first professional wicket.

Conor McKerr attacks a short ball and a top edge flies up, up and away into the South London sky.

Wicketkeeper Ollie Robinson positions himself underneath and pouches the chance.

Dan Worrall joins Tom Lawes with Surrey needing eight more runs for a fourth batting point.

Just a single from the latest Jack Leach over, but Somerset are the team with all the problems now at Old Trafford. The lead is 265.

  19. Postpublished at 17:25 British Summer Time 18 September

    Kent 225 and 43-0 f/o v Notts 433

    Lovely shot, Tawanda Muyeye!

Rob Lord sends one down back of a length just outside off stump and the Kent opener rocks back and guides it through midwicket for four.

A loose ball is punished as Muyeye opens the face and mistimes it a little through the covers for back-to-back boundaries.

He seems to be enjoying the bowling of Mr Lord.

  20. Postpublished at 17:25 British Summer Time 18 September

    Northants 383 v Leics 203 & 62-4

Looks like we are going to have a couple of extra overs at Wantage Road as the specified minimum has been reached a few minutes early.

Leicestershire have sent in Scott Currie as a nightwatch, but it may be a case of 'after the horse bolted' for them.
