  1. new ball

New ballpublished at 16:16 British Summer Time 18 September

    Surrey 297-7 v Durham 262

Bas de Leede has run in hard today and is still bending his back for a fifth wicket with the new ball.

But he'll need to wait a while longer.

A single apiece for Tom Lawes and Ryan Patel.

Chemar Holder then goes inches past Patel's off stump. He's created enough chances for have had a fuve-for of his own.

Patel's riposte is to drive straight back past the bowler for four.

A couple more takes him into the nineties and a scampered single moves him within eight of a fifth first-class ton.

  2. Glamorgan avoid follow-onpublished at 16:15 British Summer Time 18 September

    Glamorgan 239 v Yorkshire 361

    Nick Webb
    BBC Radio Wales

Yorkshire may be firmly on top but they won’t have the option of the follow-on after Glamorgan’s ninth-wicket pair of James Harris and Andy Gorvin put together a stand of 59 in a belated show of resistance.

Earlier, Colin Ingram, with a fluent 82 off 117 balls, did his best to drag them out of the mire in a stand of 63 with Mason Crane (29).

But Crane was acrobatically caught by Jonny Bairstow hooking at Jordan Thompson, and Dom Bess bowled Ingram in the first over of spin delivered by the visitors.

Yorkshire may now have a declaration to weigh up tomorrow, with the chance of bad weather on Friday afternoon.

  3. new ball

New ball at Old Traffordpublished at 16:15 British Summer Time 18 September

    Lancs 140 & 222-6 v Somerset 146

Jack Leach thinks he has George Bell but the umpire turns the appeal down, presumably for reasons of height.

Very similar delivery to the one which bowled Rocky Flintoff during today's second session.

No hanging about by Somerset - Craig Overton has the new cherry.

  4. wicket

WICKET: Morris b Coad 0published at 16:15 British Summer Time 18 September

    Glam 239 v Yorks 361

That is way too good for a No 11, angled in and straightened before flattening off stump.

And it is also the end of Glamorgan's first innings.

Yorkshire have a 122 runs lead which is healthy enough even with unsettled weather forecast for day four.

With 27 over remaining in the day, they can take a big step forward this evening.

  5. Postpublished at 16:12 British Summer Time 18 September

    Lancs 140 & 222-6 v Somerset 146

Kasey Aldridge overpitches and Luke Wells belts it to the cover point boundary.

There's an appeal for a leg-side catch behind but the umpire is unimpressed - may have flicked the trousers.

  6. wicket

WICKET: Harris lbw b Coad 40published at 16:10 British Summer Time 18 September

    Glam 239-9 v Yorks 361

James Harris looks a little perplexed with that decision which did look a little leggy and a little high.

Still a good 67-run partnership is over and debutant Ben Morris is at the crease as the last man for Glamorgan.

  7. Surrey build their first innings leadpublished at 16:09 British Summer Time 18 September

    Surrey 288-7 v Durham 262

Chemar Holder strays way down leg and that runs down to the fine leg boundary for four.

Wicketkeeper Ollie Robnson had absolutely no chance with that, but the runs will spoil his figures.

Tidy stuff other than that - five dots.

Holder has bowled much better than 2-40 suggests. He's had at least two dollies dropped in the slips.

Durham simply can't let Surrey get too far away from them.

  8. wicket

WICKET: De Caires lbw b Morley 80published at 16:07 British Summer Time 18 September

    Derbys 173 v Middx 358

And that brings to an end an excellent knock from Josh de Caires, pinned lbw by Jack Morley, and with it the Middlesex innings.

They resume in 10 with a lead of 185.

  9. Play resumes at Old Traffordpublished at 16:07 British Summer Time 18 September

    Lancs 140 & 214-6 v Somerset 146

As we said a few minutes ago, the new ball is due in four overs.

Lancashire need Luke Wells and George Bell to continue building their partnership - and Somerset need to knock them over asap.

Should be an intriguing session. The Lancashire lead is 208.

  10. wicket

WICKET Gilchrist b Duffy 4published at 16:05 British Summer Time 18 September

    Kent 215-9 v Notts 433

    Cleaned 'im up!

We have a possible extra half-hour before tea as Notts take the ninth wicket with what should have been the final ball of the session.

Jacob Duffy gets his first wicket with a beauty, pitching on middle and off stump before knocking Nathan Gilchrist's off pole out of the ground.

Last man George Garrett is in with Kent 218 behind.

  11. wicket

WICKET Price c Haines b Carson 11published at 16:03 British Summer Time 18 September

    Glos 109 & 59-2 v Sussex 311

Second wicket down for Gloucestershire and it's Ollie Price who falls to Jack Carson for 11.

Price has gone for 11 in both innings.

  12. Postpublished at 16:00 British Summer Time 18 September

    Northants 383 v Leics 203 & 20-1

Only one wicket so far with the new ball.

Northants waste no time in handing it to Indian spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, who took four wickets in Leicestershire's first innings.

His first over yields a couple of singles only.

  13. wicket

WICKET Clark c Minto b Holder 22published at 15:59 British Summer Time 18 September

    Surrey 279-7 v Durham 262

We're back under way after tea and there's already a wicket.

Jordan Clark looks to pull Chemar Holder but gets a toe end to a short ball.

James Minto hardly has to move to take the catch at backward square leg.

Tom Lawes is in to join Ryan Patel.

  14. wicket

WICKET Parkinson c McCann b Ahmed 0published at 15:57 British Summer Time 18 September

    Kent 210-7 v Notts 433

A third wicket for Farhan Ahmed!

Matt Parkinson leans into a forward defensive which pops up to Freddie McCann who takes a brilliant low catch at short leg.

His 29-ball scoreless vigil is over.

  15. Soon be tea...published at 15:51 British Summer Time 18 September

    Kent 205-7 v Notts 433

We're lagging some way behind the over rate at Canterbury despite 12 overs of spin from Farhan Ahmed.

The players have been out there for 160 minutes and three overs remain to be bowled before they can tuck into their teatime sarnie.

Joey Evison takes a single to open Jacob Duffy's 10th over before the steadfast Matt Parkinson plays out five dots in varying levels of comfort.

Parkinson remains unbeaten - and scoreless - off 25 balls.

  16. wicket

WICKET: Bamber c Guest b Moore 10published at 15:50 British Summer Time 18 September

    Derbys 178 v Middx 347-9

That is a very very sharp take by Brooke Guest behind the stumps, diving low to his right as Ethan Bamber edges Harry Moore.

Middlesex are still just short of a third batting point. Surely they won't fall short.

  17. 200 runs

200 up for Kentpublished at 15:46 British Summer Time 18 September

    Kent 203-7 v Notts 433

Kent were in massive trouble at 119-6, still more than 300 runs behind, but the hosts have recovered well enough to reach 200 with seven down.

Joey Evison (62 not out) has been the mainstay, putting on 63 with Akeem Jordan, and brings up the milestone with a lovely drive down the ground for four off Farhan Ahmed.

Could they yet earn themselves a batting point - or two?

  18. Tea at Sophia Gardenspublished at 15:44 British Summer Time 18 September

    Glam 231-8 v Yorks 361

This half century stand between Andy Gorvin (21no) and James Harris (34no) is proving most frustrating for the visitors.

A Yorkshire attack thinking about hanging their feet over the balcony in the late Cardiff sunshine, will instead be putting their boots back on and going out again after tea.

And they have this pair, who have put on 59 for the ninth wicket, to thank for that.

From 92-6 at lunch Glamorgan have fought a sterling rearguard as they seek a batting point.

  19. Postpublished at 15:43 British Summer Time 18 September

    Northants 383 v Leics 203 & 13-1

Leicestershire very much intent on seeing off the new ball at Wantage Road following the early loss of Sol Budinger.

Rishi Patel has 10 from 28 balls and Ian Holland 3 off 13 - their deficit is currently 167.

  20. Tea at Old Traffordpublished at 15:42 British Summer Time 18 September

    Lancs 140 & 214-6 v Somerset 146

A couple of singles from the final over before tea, bowled by Jack Leach, and that completes a highly satisfactory session for Lancashire.

Yes, they lost three wickets in adding 108 to their 106-3 at lunch, but the lead is now 208 and they have given themselves a fighting chance of the win they badly need if they are to avoid relegation.

Title-chasing Somerset know they are going to have to bat well to win and won't want to face a target much beyond 250 - preferably less.

The new ball is due in four overs' time - how quickly can they polish off the Lancashire tail?
