Summary

  1. Pak 37-2published at 13 overs

Kamran Ghulam looked very calm in his first innings when he got the hundred and he looks pretty calm now too. He's one those unruffled characters.

  3. Pak 33-2published at 12 overs

    Lead by 108

This is good from Kamran Ghulam - a reverse sweep for three off Bashir. You can't just sit there on this pitch. You have to look to score runs before one turns and gets you out.

  4. Pak 28-2published at 11 overs

    Lead by 103

    Joe Root mixes it up.

One is bowled with a low arm. The delivery before with a scrambled seam.

Both of them spin but Saim Ayub ends the over by chopping three on the cut.

  5. Pak 25-2published at 10 overs

    Lead by 100

There's definitely a spring in Shoaib Bashir's step now.

Ollie Pope didn't really celebrate after taking that catch. Maybe he's thinking about the fact he'll have to bat on this again.

This is just the time when Pakistan might start to question themselves, considering the third-innings trouble they've had over recent times.

There are 15 minutes to go until lunch as Kamran Ghulam, Pakistan's first-innings centurion, walks out.

That's how an off-spinner gets a left-handed batter out on a pitch like this. There's nothing Shan Masood could've done there.

    Shoaib Bashir has two!

"YES Bash" screams Ben Stokes after the England spinner bowls a beauty that turns Shan Masood around.

Masood is trying to work it to leg but the ball flicks off the edge and into the hands of Ollie Pope who is wearing a helmet at a second slip position.

Root, whose fluffy beard is growing around his chin, does fizz one down and it turns to beat Saim Ayub. England's fielders groan. Root just stares down at his opponent.

I saw Joe Root practising this morning, bowling really quick into the pitch with England spin-bowling coach Jeetan Patel on the practice wicket. So it won't be a surprise to see Root really firing it in.

With two left-handers at the crease, Joe Root is going to have a bowl.

    It should favour his off-spin.

Both teams would've felt aggrieved if that Shafique review had gone against them. There was a fair amount of disturbance on the UltraEdge and not exactly when the ball passed the edge of the bat.

The batter would have gone to the dressing room saying he didn't feel anything on the bat there, and England would have said there was a clear spike when the ball passed the bat, if it had not been given.

Having been clubbed for four by Shan Masood, Shoaib Bashir runs away like Alan Shearer in celebration after the next delivery. He think the Pakistan skipper has edged that behind but Ben Stokes tells him it hit thigh pad rather than bat.

    PitchViz ratings - This Test

    • Day 1, Session 1 - 4.3
    • Day 1, Session 2 - 6.0
    • Day 1, Session 3 - 5.3
    • Day 2, Session 1 - 4.6
    • Day 2, Session 2 - 5.9
    • Day 2, Session 3 - 6.6
    • Day 3, Session 1 - 7.2

For the first time in this Test match the PitchViz rating went past seven in a particular session.

On a scale of 1-10, the higher the PitchViz number, the harder it is to bat.

The ratings for the morning sessions on the first two days were 4.3 and 4.6, respectively. Today, that went up to 7.2. The cracks have started to open up, and it might get harder to bat from here on.

England's catchers close on the leg side get excited as Shan Masood comes down the pitch to Jack Leach and whips the ball in their direction.

Masood, maybe through skill but possibly also with a bit of luck, manages to keep the ball down.

Saim Ayub then gloves one over Jamie Smith on the sweep.

After rain washed out the first day of India's first Test against New Zealand at Bengaluru, the weather has improved to allow some action on day two.

Rohit Sharma and his side might wish the rain had continued, though.

India chose to bat first but have collapsed to 34-6, either side of a rain delay.

Rohit was bowled by Tim Southee for two, while Virat Kohli fell to William O'Rourke for a duck and the seamer has taken another two wickets for the Black Caps.

Rishabh Pant is at the crease now, trying to recover the situation for the hosts, but Ravindra Jadeja has just been dismissed.

Can that wicket boost the confidence of Shoaib Bashir?

There's a bit more theatre - a bit more swagger - in the rest of the over as he throws his arms in the air when Shan Masood goes back to cut.

This happened in the England innings as well. There was a big gap between the bat and ball and somehow, the UltraEdge showed there was an edge. It was 50-50.

But this is a big breakthrough for England and Pakistan didn't need it at the start of their innings.
