  2. Eng 256-8published at 60 overs

    Smith 20, Leach 0

Jack Leach is greeted by more sharp turn.

It's time for Jamie Smith to give it the long handle. He needs to try and wipe out some of this 110-run deficit.

Sajid Khan has seen that Matthew Potts is looking to take that off-stump guard and this one is slightly flatter.

It's gone through his legs - the nutmeg. Playing from the crease is risky on this pitch that is now turning sharply.

Another for Sajid Khan! England are deep in trouble.

This one has ragged and gone between Matthew Potts' legs to hit the stumps as he plays back. Potts was trying to work it into the leg side. He got nowhere near it as the ball fizzed.

  5. Eng 252-7published at 59 overs

    Smith 20, Potts 2

Early days but we have not seen much excessive spin this morning. Matthew Potts eyes a big drive but gets an inside edge past his boots.

Sajid Khan is a lover of a big celebration.

He held one finger in the air there with one knee lifted. It's not the easiest thing to describe but works for him.

Sajid Khan has bowled really nicely after his first spell. He's come back into the game well. Brydon Carse looked to drag this towards wide long-on, but the bat skews in his hand and he does not make a clean connection.

England lose their seventh and they are in a bit of trouble.

Matthew Potts 149 not out for Durham from earlier this season would be helpful now.

There is only Jack Leach and Shoaib Bashir to come.

Ah. It's five wickets for Sajid Khan as Brydon Carse tries to launch him for six and picks out long on.

A bad shot? England can't just sit there and wait for the ripper, I suppose.

Pakistan only have one remaining now.

Sajid Khan seems to have found a good pace and a good length. He's asking questions of England's batters at the moment.

It looked like it hit Carse outside the line of off stump as he attempted a sweep but I have been wrong before.

The heavy roller went up and down the pitch before play. Imagine a supersized sit-on lawn mower but with a big roller rather than a blade.

That may have some impact in calming the spin. Nothing has turned big yet.

Brydon Carse hit that ball really hard, straight back at Sajid Khan. It was an early opportunity for Pakistan.

  18. dropped catch

Carse dropped on twopublished at 54 overs

Is this an early drop? I'm feeling harsh this morning.

Brydon Carse belts the ball back at Sajid Khan but he can't cling on as he tries to avoid getting his teeth rearranged by the leather.

Otherwise five runs come from the first over.

England will only bat in one way and that is by showing positive intent. You can show that in different and it doesn't have to be by hitting boundaries consistently.

Jamie Smith and Brydon Carse will play themselves in and take advantage of this surface early. If England can get on top of the Pakistan bowlers early, they will then start thinking about whether they should be changing things up.

Here come Jamie Smith and Brydon Carse.

You won't be surprised to learn Sajid Khan, who has four of the six wickets to fall, will begin with the ball.
