Martin: One of this England side's weaknesses is not being able to mop up tails. Australia were 221 for 9. If they could close out innings like the best teams in the world, this would be game on now. Better bowlers needed for the World Cup.

This pairing are batting fairly sensible for now, they work Hardie for a pair of singles, and Rashid turns the ball away for two.

The great sporting teams are so good at transitioning from the old to the new - it's not always perfect and there's often a bit of a drop off initially but it generally feels seamless. What I can't understand with England is that we supposedly have more strength in depth than any other nation, everyone waiting in the wings is hailed as a generational talent and yet it feels like we're miles off. Given these are all professionals with a lot of exposure to white ball cricket I'm not sure why we constantly base poor performances on inexperience and / or key players missing

Patrick Brennan: Let's be frank here. If you offered most England fans anything other than 5-0 to Australia in this series, we'd take it. The turnaround since 2018's series is remarkable.

It was a shot played out of frustration, he faced a lot of dot balls. England's problem is, bar Smith and Bethell, they have not had a partnership.
