This is just Nahid Rana's 10th international match but the 22-year-old fast bowler is already developing quite the reputation.

His ability to clock speeds in excess of 150kph - or 93.2mph if you prefer - has led to suggestions that Nahid is Bangladesh's fastest ever bowler.

Quite the feat in itself but even more remarkable when you consider that he did not bowl with a hard cricket ball until his late teens, having grown up playing taped tennis ball cricket.

“The opportunity to play against the best cricketers in the world is the highest form of inspiration,” he said ahead of his first ICC tournament.

He has already shown he is capable of mixing it with the best in Test cricket, claiming the wicket of Babar Azam as he impressed in Bangladesh's series win over Pakistan.

While his pace is what makes Rana really stand out, he is more concerned with his rhythm and release.

"But then again, when you see or hear that the pace is around 150kph, that’s a nice feeling,” he admitted.

The only downside for Nahid as he continues his rise in the cricketing world is a hectic schedule that will limit the time he gets to spend on his two somewhat contrasting hobbies: fishing and riding his motorbike.

Bangladesh fans will be hoping that Nahid does not need his bike to hit those high speeds at this Champions Trophy.

  2. 'Rana is very exciting'published at 08:56 Greenwich Mean Time

Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto: "I would have liked to bowl, but it's not a big issue if we bat well.

"We have made two changes - Mahmudullah and Nahid Rana."

On Nahid Rana: "Very exciting - the way he bowled in the last few years, the pace and he consistently holds the line and length, especially with the new ball."

  3. 'We've been doing a lot of good stuff'published at 08:53 Greenwich Mean Time

New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner: "It looks like a very good wicket to be fair and it can be better later in the evening.

"We played on a different ground which was very, very dewy but I think they spray for dew here.

"We’ve been doing a lot of good stuff. It was good to play in conditions that you’re going to be confronted to in the build-up.

"It would be nice to wrap it up today. But we know Bangladesh are a very good side and we won’t be taking them lightly."
