Ollie Pope is also attracting all the good deliveries. How that has not gone to anyone is beyond me. The gully is deeper just in case Pope slashes but had it been a normal gully, maybe he would have been caught.

  2. Eng 246-2published at 53 overs

Joe Root and Ollie Pope take singles into the leg side, before the latter pops a leading edge up in the air from Jasprit Bumrah's final delivery.

The ball lands safe in front of point, with none of the converging India fielders managing to get near it.

Poor appeal that - it's heading way down the leg side.

India lose a review, they now have one to England's three.

That went for four leg byes too, the only runs of the over with Joe Root defending Siraj's final delivery.

If you freeze frame where it hit him, you might think he was out. But the ball moved a lot and that initial replay from the front suggested it had to be going down.

  6. India reviewpublished at 51.5 overs

Mohammed Siraj goes up for the lbw appeal against Joe Root!

The England batter was a fair way down the pitch and trying to play into the leg side.

Nothing from the umpire, but wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel is also keen and Shubman Gill decides to take a look.

How many runs Joe Root scores in the third man area. He plays this one uppishly and he is getting closer - one shot to take out two legends.

  10. Eng 240-2published at 50 overs

That's Ollie Pope off the mark for the morning, sending Mohammed Siraj's ball past gully for four with a shot that's a bit edge-y.

Joe Root then lashes another boundary through a similar area, cutting the ball over the leaping fielder.

Just a message of appreciation for Joe Root, he is just a very, very good batter. PS: Not my fault if he nicks off early!

An immediate change at this end for India, with Jasprit Bumrah replacing Shardul Thakur.

Root clips his opening delivery firmly off his pads, sending the ball flying over the head of the square leg umpire for four.

He then drives hard into the covers, but the ball is stopped well there.

I didn't see this in the wicket, I thought it would stay really true for the next three days but maybe it is a bit drier.

    Pea-shooter!

Mohammed Siraj's final delivery keeps extremely low, passing the ankles of Ollie Pope and bouncing again before it makes sub wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel.

All eyes are on Joe Root - when are they not? - today.

He resumes on 11 not out. If he gets to 31 he will go beyond Rahul Dravid and Jacques Kallis into third on the all-time Test run-scorers list.

If he gets to 120 he will overtake the great Ricky Ponting, who is here today, and sit second on the list with only Sachin Tendulkar ahead of him.

Time to get going on day three.

England resume on 225-2 after 46 overs, with Ollie Pope on 20 and Joe Root on 11.

Shardul Thakur, who had figures of 0-35 from five overs yesterday, resumes with the ball for India.

  19. 'It was friendly bar Siraj'published at 11:00 British Summer Time 25 July

Duckett also spoke about what the target is for today and if they have total in mind going into day three: "I don't really want to put a ceiling on it. If we win the first two hours, then we have got the right to do whatever we want to do this afternoon.

"It feels like it is an incredible day for batting so if we have two or three big partnership and we bat all the way down, looking at that pitch, I just want us to bat well today and get as big lead as we can."

And about his battle with Indian bowler Mohammed Siraj: "It was very friendly bar Siraj, he can't help himself at the minute and I am really enjoying the battle, he obviously got one more over me at Lord's but I had him covered yesterday.

"He obviously loves the battle, and it's becoming relentless now and it's coming in every innings I face him. I don't mind it, it gets me going and I actually really enjoyed it yesterday.

Ben Duckett also spoke about his opening partnership with Zak Crawley and the significance of getting a great start: "It's all the obvious things that people have spoken about over the years, the height difference, the different areas we hit in.

"The thing I am most pleased about is, we have put on three big partnerships this year, me and Zak have got us off to really good starts but when we bat for two hours together and we can put on 150, then you saw yesterday that it can really take the game away from the opposition."

And his relationship with Crawley generally: "I think we get on very well and I think Zak is pretty good at getting away from the game and not think too much.

"We had a nice moment at Edgbaston where we both got out at the end of the day, we both had average games, and I said let's head down and have a drink and a chat, they are moments that go a lot further than partnerships yesterday, the bonds you grow together and doing things off the field are just as important as in the middle."
