Summary

  1. SA 20-0published at 2.1 overs

    Target 132

It's not getting any better, I'm afraid.

Two wides and another boundary to Markram to start Sonny Baker's second over.

  2. SA 12-0published at 2 overs

    Target 132

'That would have been out' - England miss lbw review

    Another chance?

Jofra Archer thinks he has Rickelton lbw, but the umpire has absolutely no interest.

Harry Brook isn't fussed about a review - and of course, the replays show it would've hit leg stump. This has been disastrous from start to finish from England.

  3. Not outpublished at 1.5 overs

'That's a tough one to give' - Rickleton survives after edge falls short of Root

    Not given!

It's one of those awkward ones where the ball kind of bounces into Joe Root's hands. It's marginal but Rickelton survives.

We might be here a while.

It looked to me like it was a catch but the reaction of the keeper and second slip suggested it wasn't.

It was a very thick edge but on first look, it felt like it bounced.

  7. Umpire reviewpublished at 1.4 overs

    Jofra Archer with the breakthrough?

Ryan Rickelton is caught at slip but he's not convinced it has carried to Joe Root.

    Let's have a look.

Michael: England look frazzled. Too much cricket. Even for hardcore cricket fans it’s becoming meaningless.

Harry Brook is chasing wickets here which is fair enough when defending this score.

  10. SA 14-0published at 1 over

    Target 132

    Media caption,

Markram hits Baker for two fours off first over

Possibly some nerves for the youngster here.

Short and wide outside the off stump, and Aiden Markram punches off the back foot for another boundary, followed by a glorious cover drive for the same result.

The ball is pinging out of the middle of Markram's bat. This is a decent pitch.

  11. SA 4-0published at 0.2 overs

    Target 132

    Not quite.

Down the leg side and helped on its way for four by Markram.

Let's hope Sonny Baker's debut goes a little better with the ball.

He's got Aiden Markram, South Africa's hero of the World Test Championship final, in his sights.

Jacob Bethell, who will be England captain in a couple of weeks' time, was caught at slip for one and poor Sonny Baker was bowled for a golden duck on his debut.

Keshav Maharaj was the pick of the South Africa bowlers with 4-22, while Wiaan Mulder took 3-33.

This is not a good look for the England team to not be able to just switch on and fight. The schedule of the summer is not great but that is not an excuse. England have let themselves down there.

There is huge talent in that team and wonderful players. This is not good enough.

Brook run out by Stubbs after mix-up with Smith

There may be a question mark over the catch that dismissed Joe Root, before Harry Brook was nonsensically run out by Tristan Stubbs for 12.

That left England 82-3 but still possessing plenty of batting in Jos Buttler, Jacob Bethell and Will Jacks.

It started pretty well with Jamie Smith's 54 from 48 balls.

  20. South Africa need 132 to winpublished at 15:05 British Summer Time

Well, they say a quick game's a good game. Not so much for England today.

I was supposed to be handing over to Ffion Wynne about now at the halfway stage of the innings but the home side didn't make it that far.

They've collapse from 82-2 to 131 all out so here's Ffion to go over how that happened and, in all likelihood, to take you through the entirety of the chase...
