Headingley is in some sort of stunned daze.

A brilliant display by South Africa and a very poor batting display. England players look like they are frazzled. Hammered, battered and bruised.

You should not be getting bowled out in 25 overs on this pitch.

That's that. Sonny Baker is bowled first ball.

Straight through the England debutant and Keshav Maharaj has four.

Good bowling effort from South Africa but how England have quite managed not to even reach the halfway stage of the innings, I do not know.

Good piece of bowling from Keshav Maharaj. That went straight onto Adil Rashid.

England are not even into the halfway stage and they have lost nine wickets.

Three reds. England are nine down.

It looked out on first viewing and it was. Plumb.

Three for Keshav Maharaj with the ball skidding on to hit leg stump.

Adil Rashid may as well review this with only one batter left to come.

Adil Rashid props, forward is hit on the pad by Keshav Maharaj and given lbw.

He reviews but it looks a good shout.

Adil Rashid has batted in 29 of the 34 ODIs he's played in since the start of 2023. From 2015 until the 2019 World Cup final, he batted in only 39 of his 94 ODI appearances.

  9. Eng 131-8published at 24 overs

Adil Rashid miscues a pull shot into the leg side but it lands safely and England are through another over without suffering any further damage.

With one over left of my stint, there is still a chance I manage to bring you the whole innings...

Harry Brook has said England's Test series against India was his most tiring series he has played.

After that match he had three days off and then played and captained in every match of Northern Superchargers Hundred campaign.

There was only a handful of players at training on Sunday and even on Monday five of this squad were driving up the M1 from London because of the Hundred final.

    Is it any wonder?

Adil Rashid is a good batter to be coming in at number 10. That was slower from Keshav Maharaj and Rashid was onto it quickly.

  13. Eng 127-8published at 23 overs

The other thing you need to know about Adil Rashid is that he hits the ball to unusual areas...

Not so much this time, he rocks back and pulls a drag-down from Keshav Maharaj over mid-wicket. One bounce for four.

You cannot ask players to play at this level with no preparation. England have made too many mistakes.

There is just enough movement to make it difficult for the batters but it is a day where you really have to have your head in the game and switch on as a batting unit.

  15. Eng 121-8published at 22 overs

The end of a very successful over for Wiaan Mulder.

England have lost 5-19 off the last 29 balls. Ouch.

A nod to our colleague Rory Dollard from Press Association who says Wiaan Mulder shouldn't have bowled his hat-trick ball to respect those who have got one.

  17. Eng 119-8published at 21.4 overs

Adil Rashid keeps out the hat-trick ball.

    Shouldn't be a surprise, he has 10 first-class centuries, don't you know...

South Africa have been great in the field. A decent ball and length from Wiaan Mulder.

Jofra Archer hung back and there was just enough nibble - it was a good catch. Steven Finn will be making the 16:45 train at this point!

Two in two for Wiaan Mulder!

This one nibbles away and Jofra Archer edges it to slip as he tries to defend.

Good catch taken low down by Aiden Markram.

Mulder's on a hat-trick and this innings could be over very quickly.

Wiaan Mulder got that one to nip back. Jos Buttler was out of his crease trying to offer something different but it was the inside feather that got him.

It has looked like a batting display which is full of tired England players. They are not quite switched onto a 50-over cricket match. The Hundred is a completely different ball game.
