Harry Brook may flash at the ball often and come unstuck but he has that very rare talent of seeing ball, hitting ball with absolute demonic and irrefutable precision. Like Kevin Pietersen used to have.

You feel this tactic from India could work. Prasidh Krishna is bowling more or less the same ball every time. There's been a lot of chances that have come from it.

  4. Eng 285-5published at 55 overs

After three dots, Jamie Smith has a bit of a lazy swipe across the line to Prasidh Krishna but does not connect.

Next ball he inside edges one but the ball does not carry to Rishabh Pant.

    Living dangerously.

Great from Jamie Smith, but people saying he could open instead of Zak Crawley, well that's nuts. Completely different facing the new ball with fresh bowlers. Both are proven in their positions, leave them be.

In the half an hour since lunch, India’s seamers have bowled 50% of their balls wider than the outside off stump channel, and not a single ball on stump line. A clear tactical shift from the visitors.

Nitish Kumar Reddy is summoned by Shubman Gill.

His first delivery has a hint of late movement and a drive from Jamie Smith is edged.

Rishabh Pant drives to his right, gets a glove on it, but cannot cling on. Did that carry? It was close. The ball races away for four.

Jamie Smith should open the batting in the third Test at Crawley's expense, he's a class act and will be able to take the pressure. This would also create a middle order place for young Jacob Bethell.

Duckett, Pope, Stokes gone for a combined 0 from 7 balls. Tired minds? I really think it’s time Stokes batted 8 with Bethell coming in at 7 to share the bowling load.
