That's perfection form Harry Brook, glorious cover dive. Not trying to over hit it, just uses his technique, his bat always points towards the sky.

  6. Eng 137-5published at 31 overs

No reaction from Harry Brook as he drives through the covers for four. He's struck it so sweetly that he doesn't even watch the ball race away to the rope.

Completely unrelated but I've just spotted Rishabh Pant's bright orange wicketkeeping gloves. They are excellent.

India have bowled well this morning, with 52% of their deliveries delivered in the off stump channel - this is up from last night (42%) and higher than England managed in their innings (43%).

  9. Eng 132-5published at 30 overs

    Brook 52, Smith 26

England spent most of day one begging for the ball to be changed. Now it's India's turn to plead with the umpire. He is unmoved.

Two singles off Prasidh Krishna's second over of the day.

If you're wondering what former England captain Michael Vaughan is talking about when he refers to a 'jaffa' (see entry at 11:32) then let us enlighten you.

He is talking about an exceptionally well-bowled delivery from a seamer or fast bowler. Typically, it is one that is considered so good to be almost unplayable by the batter facing it.

The term is thought to have passed into usage in cricket in the mid-20th century and takes its inspiration from the 'jaffa' orange which are known from their juiciness and sweetness. They got their name having been exported from Jaffa, a port city which is part of Tel Aviv.

Harry Brook has brought up the 50 in 73 balls. It's his 21st Test 50 in 44 innings. Eight of his previous 20 fifties have been converted into centuries.

Harry Brook's innings has been great so far, it's one that England will want to continue to blossom and grow.

  13. Eng 130-5published at 29 overs

Harry Brook has looked very solid this morning.

Last night, he was liable to dance down to every delivery. Today, he's a lot calmer. His defensive shots in particular - head down, bat straight - have been excellent.

You can see what India are trying to do, they just want to keep Harry Brook quiet. They just need to get him out.

  17. Eng 123-5published at 28 overs

Shubman Gill makes a bowling change, with Prasidh Krishna replacing Mohammed Siraj.

Harry Brook picks up four, flashing the ball through the slip cordon. India respond by moving Karun Nair into the gap. Hindsight and all that.

Brook is three runs away from his half-century.

We saw it at Headingley and now again here.

When in the field, India have four of their backroom staff patrolling or sitting by the boundary edge.

This pair of Harry Brook and Jamie Smith have calmed the game down a bit but they've got a lot of work to do.
