This is Olly Stone's fourth Test and each one has been against different opposition. He is only the third England Test player to do that.

The other two were Brian Close and Eric Russell.

Quick thinking from Dan Lawrence, great work. The batter wasn't in the frame.

  3. SL 24-1published at 8 overs

That was very nearly sublime from Dan Lawrence at short leg.

Pathum Nissanka fends away Olly Stone's delivery but is way out of his crease as Lawrence pounces on the ball and throws back towards the stumps. It misses comfortably but Nissanka would have been out by a mile if it had hit.

It'll be good for Stone to get into the game early, before lunch, because you don't want to be waiting around in the outfield dwelling on it.

It's been a tough journey for Olly Stone but here he is, at last.

  6. SL 21-1published at 7 overs

Pathum Nissanka is the new batter and gets off the mark with a drive down the ground that lacks the power to reach the rope, but does bring three.

We have a change of bowling at the end as Olly Stone makes his return to a Test match bowling attack.

Anonymous: All the chat has been about Gus Atkinson's bowling, but Woakes isn't in the team to make up the numbers.

Jamie Smith and Joe Root will feel much better now after that wicket!

Madushka's feet were nowhere, it's a loose shot.

Chris Woakes really loves bowling at Lord's!

    Chopped on!

It is back of a length from Chris Woakes and Nishan Madushka is rooted into his crease, playing a half-hearted shot that flies off a thick edge and back onto his stumps.

Yeah, I wouldn't know much about that.

His batting might've taken it out of him this morning. It's hard work you know, scoring centuries.

  13. SL 18-0published at 6 overs

Gus Atkinson is only clocking around 80mph at the moment. He can go a bit faster than that, but given the morning he has had you understand that.

Just as I say that Atkinson shapes one in and beats Dimuth Karunaratne's defences, but the lbw appeal is turned down.

It looked a little high and, again, after you burn an early review you don't gamble.

It's a much better start from the Sri Lanka openers, although it couldn't have gotten much worse!

  15. SL 13-0published at 5 overs

Chris Woakes has generally been angling it across Dimuth Karunaratne but bowls one a bit straighter that jags in to the left-hander and smacks into his pads.

There's a huge appeal from Woakes - but umpire Joel Wilson says no.

It looked a little high and given England have already burned a review, there was little chance of Ollie Pope sending that upstairs.

    Stephan Shemilt
BBC Sport chief cricket writer at Lord's

Ollie Pope had a poor Test with regard to reviews at Old Trafford. Before this match, he said he'd lean on Jamie Smith, because he trusted his judgement. For the Karunaratne review, Smith didn't even appeal, yet Pope was talked into it by Root (former captain) and Brook (vice-captain).

Gus Atkinson hasn't quite found his rhythm yet. I wouldn't blame him if he was still thinking about his cover drives.

  18. SL 11-0published at 4 overs

Gus Atkinson offers a bit of width Dimuth Karunaratne who connects with a cut but Matthew Potts is alert to cut it off at point. Good stop.

    A quiet start so far.

  19. SL 9-0published at 3 overs

Chris Woakes angles one across Dimuth Karunaratne to end the over but the ball escapes past the outside edge.

England are making the ball do a bit so far.

Yeah, that's the keeper's. I stood at first slip a lot and you definitely don't want to be diving full-stretch to your left.

Madushka did walk down the pitch so I wonder if that threw Jamie Smith a bit.
