Shathi Rani has been trying to play a shot of that type for the first three balls. This time, she's managed to get it away. It's not quite off the middle. It's slightly skewed but it's four nonetheless.

  3. Ban 4-0published at 0.4 overs

Rachel Slater menacingly swings a few outside the off stump of Shathi Rani before the Bangladesh opener dances down the pitch and slashes it over cover.

    A show of intent.

  6. 'Scotland are in with a chance'published at 11:02 British Summer Time 3 October

Scotland booked their place in the Women's T20 World Cup at the expense of Ireland, who they beat by eight wickets in the semi-finals of the tournament qualifier earlier this year.

The debutants, captained by all-rounder Kathryn Bryce, are pooled with England, West Indies, South Africa and Bangladesh in Group B with only the top two sides reaching the semi-finals.

"You would think, historically, West Indies must qualify with England, but Scotland beat them in a warm-up game. I genuinely believe either of Scotland, Windies or South Africa can make it," former England bowler Alex Hartley said on BBC Test Match Special.

"Scotland are in there instead of Ireland and we know Ireland are a team on the rise and they haven't even made it to the World Cup. Scotland got the nod ahead and they've got some very good players too," said Daniel Norcross.

After the opener against Bangladesh, Scotland meet Windies on Sunday before matches against South Africa and England on October 9 and 13 respectively.

The temperature is up to 40 degrees here and it's going to be really tough for those players who are not used to these conditions. But I think the excitement and adrenaline should get them through this.

Giant flags of Scotland and Bangladesh have just been unfurled at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

Flower of Scotland was belted out with real gusto by their players as the sounds of bagpipes blared out.

Bangladesh's players held their hands on their hearts when their national anthem, a more sombre tune, was played.

Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana: "We wanted to bat first. After seeing the conditions, it looks like it will be good for batting and especially in this kind of a game, I feel it's always good batting first.

"We have been preparing well and the win against Pakistan in the warm-up game was a very good thing for us. Keeping that in mind, I know we have a side that can get good results, if we can play as a team."

"Women's cricket is growing in Bangladesh. So if we can get a good result in this tournament, it will be good for women's cricket in our country."

"Sharjah? Wait, isn't this T20 World Cup supposed to be in Bangladesh?" I hear you ask.

Well, you'd be correct. It was moved to the United Arab Emirates in August due to civil unrest in Bangladesh including anti-government protests.

All matches in the 10-team tournament will be held in Dubai and Sharjah between 3-20 October.

  11. 'Last few days have been fantastic'published at 10:51 British Summer Time 3 October

Scotland captain Kathryn Bryce: "We would have batted first but excited to go out there and chase the total.

"It's been pretty good conditions. The heat is the main thing here and the pitch is playing very nicely and coming on."

On World Cup debut: "The last few days have been fantastic, though a bit hectic. Preparations have been great and we are looking forward to get started."

Team news: "Olivia Bell is in the team today after not being available during the tournament qualifiers. She's been fantastic in the build-up."
