  1. SA 83-2published at 16 overs

Aiden Markram gets a bit of bat on Jofra Archer's bouncer as it heads down the leg side and it runs away for four.

Jos Buttler holds up a hand to indicate he didn't pick that one up, while England's bowler offers a wry smile.

That takes Markram into the forties.

  2. SA 78-2published at 15 overs

Matthew Breetzke, back in the side today, comes in at number four for South Africa.

He defends the last two balls of Adil Rashid's over.

Beautiful wicket there. Adil Rashid is never afraid to go fuller to Temba Bavuma and he just got it right in the business end.

A couple of very close wickets for England and it is always good to get the captain.

Temba Bavuma was pushing forward there and has edged a catch beautifully to Jos Buttler.

The South Africa captain fails again.

First sight of spin - and it gets a wicket!

Adil Rashid is introduced into the attack and he removes Temba Bavuma with his fourth ball, drawing an edge that Jos Buttler snaffles behind the stumps.

A short stay for the South Africa captain - the players will take drinks a couple of balls early.

First time since 2017 (v SA, third ODI and v Bangladesh, Champions Trophy) that England have failed to take a wicket in the first 10 overs in two consecutive ODIs.

It has been tough going to get that breakthrough but hopefully things will start to turn a little bit for England now.

When you win the toss and then haven't taken the wickets, you do start thinking that you have missed an opportunity and already feel behind the game.

  9. SA 74-1published at 14 overs

Captain Temba Bavuma comes to the crease for South Africa and he gets off the mark from the last ball of the over, sending a single to mid-off.

He was one of two South Africa batters to get themselves out with the scores level on Tuesday.

Ryan Rickelton tried to slap that into the leg side but top-edges and Jos Buttler just had to wait and wait.

    England finally have their first.

Jofra Archer was expensive in his first over back after swapping ends but he is rewarded.

That ball went almost vertical and Ryan Rickelton already started walking off straight away.

    There's the breakthrough!

Ryan Rickelton tries to hook Jofra Archer's short delivery away and gets a top edge.

The opener walks off immediately, the ball has gone miles up right above Jos Buttler and the keeper has plenty of time to settle himself and take the catch.

He departs having scored a handy 35 from 33 balls.

Brydon Carse has found bounce consistently from the Pavilion end. He is a tall bowler so hits the ground hard but he seems to be getting a little bit of lift.

There is still lots to think about for the South Africa batters.

  14. SA 73-0published at 13 overs

Brydon Carse keeps it tight, with the South Africa openers taking a single apiece from his over.

Both batters are on 35 after Markram caught up with 15 runs off the previous over.

Ian from Bolton's metaphor seems the wrong way around. Surely playing white-ball cricket at Lord's is like turning up at a wedding in your clubbing clothes. And playing the Hundred at Lord's is like turning up at a wedding in a mankini.

A beautiful shot; Aiden Markram leaning into the ball well.

It was a bit full from Jofra Archer and that is the sign that this pitch is a good one.

A change of ends for Jofra Archer, replacing Saqib Mahmood at the Nursery End, and it does not go well for him as Aiden Markram hits him for three consecutive fours.

The first is driven wide of mid-off, the second clipped off the legs to go fine and the third punched through point.

He almost gets a fourth from the over's final ball, but Harry Brook gives chase at mid-off and just manages to tip the ball away from the ropes.

Across the previous four ODIs at Lord's, the average wicket-taking length in the powerplay is 6.3 metres from the stumps - England's average length today was more than a metre shorter than that at 7.5 metres with only four deliveries hitting the stumps.

This England side lacks an obvious swing bowler. When you think of David Willey and Chirs Woakes, they fulfilled a very specific role in years gone by.

This side has much more 'hit the deck and find seam movement' bowlers.
