  1. SA 30-0published at 6 overs

Just the one run from Saqib Mahmood's third over, while he beats the bat of Ryan Rickelton and draws an edge from the shoulder of Aiden Markram's blade, seeing the ball drop short of any fielder.

Bright sunshine now at Lord's - long may that continue.

Simon Jones will be wincing in his retirement at the way these England fielders are digging up the outfield with their knees.

England need a couple of wickets because this pitch is just going to get flatter.

Aiden Markram is such a big player, he is powerful. South Africa just need to get themselves through this period of play.

  4. SA 29-0published at 5 overs

Aiden Markram defends Jofra Archer's final delivery to end the over.

The opener looks in good touch - having made 86 from 55 deliveries at Headingley on Tuesday he'll be fancying another big score today.

As an England fan, I’m glad to see Markram finally scoring runs as his talent has always promised. Saw him playing for Walkden CC in the Bolton Cricket League back in 2016-17 and he always looked the makings of a world-class player.

The impact is outside leg stump! It did look very close from where we are sat.

  8. Not outpublished at 4 overs

    SA 19-0

No, that's impact outside leg - England lose a review.

Mahmood responds well, beating the bat of Markram who has faced 21 balls to Rickelton's three.

It did sound like there was a hard sound and the ball certainly swung in. This does not look like a bad shout.

Aiden Markram is struck on the pad by Saqib Mahmood - nothing given from the umpire, but are England going to take a look?

A conference involving nine of the side takes place - they will send it upstairs.

Totally agree with Jonathan Agnew - England's batting was nothing short of pathetic in the first ODI, and they drop a bowler. Typical.

The groundsman is going to hate these players diving all over. They will need to replace all of these divots in the field at some point.

  13. SA 16-0published at 3 overs

Aiden Markram gets his first boundary of the day, tucking Jofra Archer's opening delivery through mid-wicket - Brydon Carse gives chase but his tip back off the ropes hits his own body and the ball finds the ropes.

Five dot balls follow - with Archer striking Markram on the thigh - before three more runs come through mid-on.

Again, it's Carse giving chase and on this dive he takes a big chunk out of the outfield with his knees.

  14. How's stat?!published at 13:26 British Summer Time 4 September

Saqid Mahmood is 17 matches into his ODI career, but his last 10 innings with the ball in this format are not as good as his career stats.

I didn’t think Sonny Baker bowled that badly. It seemed to me Markram targeted him.

England need to make the most of these first 10 overs because this will become a good batting wicket. If they can two or three wickets early on, they will give themselves a good chance.

  17. SA 9-0published at 2 overs

Saqib Mahmood, back in the side today in place of Sonny Baker, takes the ball at the Nursery End.

He too beats Aiden Markram's bat, seaming his first delivery away from the right-hander.

Ryan Rickelton gets his first runs with a two through square, then lashes a four through point for the game's first boundary.

You would expect the bowlers to find something today with the rain around and the humidity in the air.

  19. SA 2-0published at 1 over

Jofra Archer charges in from the Pavilion End and beats Aiden Markram's bat with his first delivery - that's a tasty start to proceedings.

A leg-side delivery with decent carry puts South Africa on the board, while Markram gets one off the bat from the final ball of the over, sending the ball down to Adil Rashid at fine leg.
