At 20 runs, that was the most expensive over of Keshav Maharaj's ODI career, going past his previous highest of 17 runs, also against England in Mumbai in 2023.

    Two more fours!

That makes it four consecutive boundaries for Bethell, as he drives cleanly through long-off again and then strikes another shot through mid-off.

A single at point sees him retain the strike.

These are some big strikes from Jacob Bethell. I love how he sets the base early and then uses the full flow of the bat.

This feels like an important time for Jacob Bethell to settle the comments there have been about him.

Yeah, do it to the world's number one bowler too, why not?

Jacob Bethell slams Keshav Maharaj's second ball over mid-wicket for six, then adds four by digging out a full ball and sending it through long-off for four.

This is an impressive start from Jacob Bethell. He did get some runs earlier in the summer but generally it has been a lean time for him.

He has played fluently and positively so far.

Aiden Markram averages 82.8 with the ball in ODIs since the start of 2023.

In this timeframe, no bowler has bowled as many deliveries as Markram at a higher average.

It is interesting that England have heaped more responsibility on Jacob Bethell. If he responds, it will be a brilliant boost for him.

A brilliant slog-sweep from Jacob Bethell. To get the elevation from that line is not an easy task.

Bethell slog sweeps Markram for six

    Hello, Jacob.

Spin at both ends as Aiden Markram replaces Corbin Bosch at the Nursery End, and it's an expensive first over.

Jacob Bethell takes a pair of consecutive twos through mid-wicket and cover then dumps Markram's final ball over square leg for six - difficult to catch in the crowd, they'll be squinting into the sun.

I know a number of you will be gritting your teeth at an out-of-form batter playing big shots this early in his innings, but England can't afford to wait too long - even with 13 runs from the over their required run-rate is still at 7.23.

Keshav Maharaj gets through another over, with Ryan Rickelton whipping off the bails from his last delivery - Jacob Bethell is stood safely in his crease, that seemed mostly for effect after the ball beat the bat.

The players will take drinks - it's a lovely evening at Lord's with blue skies and fluffy white clouds, any previous concerns about the weather long since dissipated.

The sun has dropped to a level where almost all the ground is cast in shadow, with just a patch of sunny turf in front of the Mound Stand.

Soon that will be gone and the floodlights - which are already on - will come in to play.

What's this? Two runs off a Corbin Bosch over?

The England batters exchange singles off his last two balls, with Jacob Bethell awkwardly pulling square to get off the mark.

Still, the South African seamer has figures of 0-4 from his first four overs (the run off his first was a leg bye, so doesn't count against his personal total).

This is interesting for Jacob Bethell to come in at four. Did Bethell and Harry Brook decide who would go in depending on which batter got out?

Ben Duckett has not been playing as well as he would have liked. You can see that by the shot he got out to.

He is normally such a good reverse sweeper and he very rarely misses it.
