India haven't played at their best yet and South Africa were so clinical in their last match. This is going to be a really exciting contest and maybe a close one.

  3. How things standpublished at 11:18 BST

A win for India today would take them above Australia and England to the top of the table.

Having already lost to one of their top-four rivals, victory could be even more important for South Africa, though...

  6. 'We need to keep showing improvement'published at 11:10 BST

India captain Harmanpreet Kaur: "Looking at the conditions we'd definitely want to be bowling but we're batting first so we'll look to put a decent total on the board."

"One change, Amanjot Kaur is back and comes in for Renuka Singh.

"Every game we need to keep showing some improvement and today is an important match for us, so hopefully we can play some good cricket.

"In the first two games, we did exactly what we wanted to do so we just want to keep doing good things again and again."

South Africa captain Laura Wolvaardt: "There's a bit of rain around so hopefully there's movement early. It looks a nice wicket - hopefully it's nicer under lights later. It should be a high-scoring game.

"What a change a couple of days make. I'm happy with how quickly we put [the England defeat] behind us.

"Brits has been amazing. Long may that form continue. I have the best view from the other end, so hopefully another hundred today.

"We're just taking it one ball at a time."

  8. South Africa win the toss and bowlpublished at 11:03 BST

"Heads" is the shout from Laura Wolvaardt and heads it is. South Africa are going to bowl first.

A no-brainer with rain around and given the pitch has been under cover for a while this morning.

One change for each team. Tumi Sekhukhune replaces Masabata Klaas for the Proteas, India welcome back Amanjot Kaur with Renuka Singh dropping out.

Right then, while you have a think about that - Joe Root is the faithful that goes under the radar, you look up and he's in the last five - let's get to the toss...

A couple of pretty good traitors in that bunch, I reckon, Ben.

But now we've started - and since we've got a little while until play begins - let's have your cricketing traitors and faithfuls...

Who do you think would be a great traitor and who is the faithful scrabbling around coming up with numerous theories that all, inevitably, turn out to be baseless?

Celebrity Cricket Traitors would be a great show. Boycott, Aggers, Blowers and KP would be my shout for contestants.

  12. Start delayed until 11:30 BSTpublished at 10:53 BST

Yep, confirmation that there will be another pitch inspection before the toss takes place at 11:00 BST.

Play will then start at 11:30 BST. Still no overs lost.

Both captains are on the boundary edge with the match referee and the umpires.

But after a brief chat, they go off in different directions rather than walking out to the middle for the toss.

There's no rain, the covers are completely off but it looks like there is another slight delay...?

  14. Postpublished at 10:42 BST

No overs lost either so it will still be the full 50 overs per side.

Good news for cricket fans everywhere, less good news for cricket journalists with dinner reservations.

Me? I'm not concerned, as long as I'm back in time for Celebrity Traitors, I'll be happy.

  15. Toss at 10:45 BST, start at 11:15 BSTpublished at 10:36 BST

    Good news!

Before the pitch inspection was even due to take place, it has been decided that if there is no further rain - and it looks good on that front - then the toss will take place in about 10 minutes.

Play will start half an hour later at 11:15 BST.

  16. Inspection at 10:40 BSTpublished at 10:28 BST

As is so often the case, one pitch inspection begets another.

The umpires will have another look in a little under 15 minutes.

Things look positive, though, with players of both teams out warming-up.

Here is the BBC Weather forecast for Visakhapatnam.

It looks as if we get through without anymore rain in the next hour then the worst will have passed and we should be clear for the remainder of the day.

    Fingers crossed, everybody.

In fact, it seems as though that pitch inspection has already been completed as we see pictures of the umpires chatting to the two captains.

We'll bring you news of the outcome from that inspection when we have it.

Yes, that's right. Not for the first time in this tournament, we're in the hands of the weather gods.

Some rain this morning meant the whole field of play was under cover until about 20 minutes ago.

The good news is that the rain has stopped and covers have now been removed. A pitch inspection is just taking place so hopefully we won't be waiting too long.

  20. Good morning!published at 10:15 BST

The Women's World Cup rolls on and we've got an intriguing match today as co-hosts India take on South Africa in Visakhapatnam.

India have won both of their first two games while South Africa bounced back from their hammering by England in their first game to beat New Zealand last time out.

It should be a cracker... if the weather plays ball.
