    Somerset 492 & 46-1 v Durham 336

Somerset have extended their lead above 200 in the first couple of overs after lunch - the question is just how many runs Lewis Gregory and Co think they need before it's safe to declare.

Ideally, they'll probably want to at least double this advantage before having another bowl at Durham.

  2. Postpublished at 13:46 British Summer Time 31 August

    Lancashire 200 & 34-2 v Hampshire 389

Liam Dawson rattles through a maiden to Rocky Flintoff to begin this session.

After 104 not out and 5-47 already, if anyone has bagged Oasis tickets, surely he will given the couple of days he is having.

  3. Postpublished at 13:46 British Summer Time 31 August

    Glamorgan 550-9 dec v Leicestershire 251 & 6-0

Kiran Carlson is down on his haunches as missing a close-range run-out attempt after Ian Holland dabbed down into the off side and gave Rishi Patel a kamikaze single. He'd have been out by at least a yard if Carlson had hit the stumps.

Not the rear-guard effort the visitors need this afternoon.

Timm van der Gugten then thumps the skipper on the pads to raise his adrenaline levels even further.

  4. Batting point for Middlesexpublished at 13:46 British Summer Time 31 August

    Yorks 601-6 dec v Middx 252-3

It takes Middlesex just two balls of the afternoon session to register their first batting point, with Leus du Plooy stroking a ball from Dom Bess to the midwicket boundary.

The visitors will certainly have their eye on doubling that tally of batting points, but anything further might be a stretch, with just 22 overs left after this one before the cut-off.

  5. Postpublished at 13:41 British Summer Time 31 August

    Glamorgan 550-9 dec v Leicestershire 251 & 5-0

Rishi Patel and Ian Holland stride out at Sophia Gardens to begin Leicestershire's daunting task of batting out the vast majority of the final five sessions of the match.

The Glamorgan lead is still 294.

  6. Storm clouds on the horizon?published at 13:32 British Summer Time 31 August

We haven't had cause to mention any weather problems so far in this round of matches (as rare as it is welcome) but there could be some heavy downpours overnight and into tomorrow.

Parts of the south west could be hit by heavy showers and thunderstorms with the Met Office issuing a yellow warning of rain for the region, and other areas could be affected too.

Thundery downpours are likely to hit the south of England, the Midlands, the north of England and eastern parts of Wales on Sunday.

Some teams sitting in fairly comfortable positions right now won't want to leave things to chance.

  7. Impressive Carson set for England Lions call?published at 13:31 British Summer Time 31 August

    Sussex 607-8 dec v Derbyshire 290 - Derbyshire trail by 317

    Adrian Harms
    BBC Sussex

Jack Carson has followed up his nine wickets at Scarborough last week with another five in the Derbyshire first innings, and if he isn’t already, is surely in the conversation around England Lions selection this winter.

The wicket of Wayne Madsen just before lunch was the most important, bringing a wonderfully defiant innings to a close, but not before Madsen had recorded the 38th first-class hundred of his career.

The limited use of Robinson and Unadkat, who have only bowled 24 overs between them, suggests that Sussex will enforce the follow-on, particularly with the possibility of interruptions from the weather tomorrow.

Also, after rumours at Scarborough last week and to a lesser extent at Hove this week that Paul Farbrace could be in contention for the vacant head coach role at Yorkshire, BBC Sport can confirm those rumours are completely without foundation.

  8. Somerset looking to stretch leadpublished at 13:29 British Summer Time 31 August

    Somerset 492 & 41-1 v Durham 336

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

A fine century from Brydon Carse couldn’t quite take Durham past their target for avoiding the follow-on, although in the event, that didn’t matter as the follow-on wasn’t enforced.

There are two likely reasons for that: the 41 overs that an inevitably weary Jack Leach had bowled in taking 5-124; and the fact that Somerset reckon that they’ll have a better chance of taking wickets on a slow pitch if Durham are chasing a target to win, as opposed to playing for a draw.

So barring a Somerset collapse we can expect a declaration at some stage.

  9. DERBYSHIRE ALL OUT FOR 290published at 13:27 British Summer Time 31 August

    Sussex 607-8 dec v Derbyshire 290 - Derbyshire trail by 317

Henry Crocombe gets his first wicket of the match and it's the one that brings Derbyshire's first innings to a close for 290.

The players will take lunch now and presumably Sussex skipper John Simpson will enjoy a bite before sending the visitors back in to bat.

With that sizeable lead, lunch will taste very nice indeed for the hosts.

  12. Lunch at Old Traffordpublished at 13:06 British Summer Time 31 August

    Lancashire 200 & 34-2 v Hampshire

Luke Wells and Rocky Flintoff make it to lunch but this has been hard going for Lancashire.

They have had to bat for 25 overs just to accumulate the 34 runs for the loss of Keaton Jennings and Josh Bohannon.

All Hampshire's batters have been accurate and given little away and they lead by 155.

The visitors look in the mood for a three-day victory.

  13. Five-wicket haul for Jack Carsonpublished at 13:05 British Summer Time 31 August

    Sussex 607-8 dec v Derbyshire 265-9

Jack Carson claims his fifth Derbyshire wicket as Wayne Madsen departs for a tremendous 138.

One more to go for Sussex to wrap up Derbyshire's first innings.

  14. Lunch at Headingleypublished at 13:04 British Summer Time 31 August

    Yorks 601-6 dec v Middx 248-3

Only two wickets fell during the entire second day, but Dom Bess has already matched that this morning.

The Yorkshire spinner removed both Max Holden and centurion Sam Robson to keep up the pressure on the visitors, who still trail by 353 runs.

Leus du Plooy and Ryan Higgins, with 23 and 22 respectively, are the not-out batters at lunch.

  15. Lunch at Trent Bridgepublished at 13:03 British Summer Time 31 August

    Notts 231-4 v Surrey 525

A fine morning's cricket in Nottingham where Freddie McCann has been the star with his 109 not out.

Jack Haynes has dug in for 31 after the early loss of Joe Clarke with this fifth wicket partnership worth 83.

Surrey have bowled better than last night, but this pitch and the batting is not giving up much, although they still lead by 294.

  16. Lunch at Tauntonpublished at 13:02 British Summer Time 31 August

    Somerset 492 & 41-1 v Durham 336

George Drissell delivers the final over of the morning session, bowling around the wicket and conceding a single as Somerset go to lunch with a 197-run advantage.

Lewis Goldsworthy has six to his name and Tom Lammonby three.

  17. Lunch at Chelmsfordpublished at 13:02 British Summer Time 31 August

    Essex 404 v Worcs 266 & 125-3

Essex made a fine start to the day as they ousted nightwatcher Joe Leach for nought and then Gareth Roderick for six soon after, however Kashif Ali (27) rebuilt with Jake Libby before falling to Paul Walter.

Libby remains unbeaten on 60 and Rob Jones has 27, with the 50 partnership completed from the final ball of the morning session.

They have dragged the visitors towards parity on the scoreboard, with seven wickets remaining in their second innings.

Honours even in the session. Fascinating afternoon in store.

  18. No Vince for Hampshirepublished at 13:00 British Summer Time 31 August

    Lancashire 200 & 34-2 v Hampshire 389

As Hampshire hunt more Lancashire wickets, it has all been done this morning without James Vince on the field.

The captain appeared to hurt himself running to take the catch of Tom Hartley late yesterday and he is not around this morning.

Wicketkeeper Ben Brown is running operations and things are going very smoothly.

WICKET: Umeed c Drissell b Parkinson 28published at 12:56 British Summer Time 31 August

    Somerset 492 & 37-1 v Durham 336

Strange choice of shot by Andy Umeed just before lunch as he lofts Callum Parkinson to long-off, where George Drissell pouches the catch.

That brings Tom Lammonby to the middle for around 10 balls prior to the interval.

  20. WARWICKSHIRE WIN BY AN INNINGS AND 21 RUNSpublished at 12:54 British Summer Time 31 August

    Warwickshire 420 v Kent 156 & 243

Their first County Championship win of the season is sealed as Joey Evison holes out for 65, caught by Alex Davies inside the rope going for another six.

Will Rhodes made a superb double hundred in the first innings before Ollie Hannon-Dalby collected 6-43 to give the hosts a valuable win which will ease any relegation concerns.

Basement boys Kent, however, look doomed.
