  1. wicket

WICKET Shaikh run out (Kohler-Cadmore) 21published at 17:27 British Summer Time 24 August

    Warks 337 & 133-3 v Somerset 239

    A breakthrough at last - and it's self-inflicted.

Alex Davies flicks a Jack Leach delivery off his pads and Hamza Shaikh calls for a single before hesitating.

It proves fatal as he restarts his run to the striker's end and is comfortably run out as Tom Kohler-Cadmore's throw finds the gloves of wicketkeeper James Rew.

That ends a partnership of 87 and gives Somerset a tiny glimmer. The hosts lead by 221.

Jacob Bethell joins his skipper at the crease.

  2. ouch!

Postpublished at 17:26 British Summer Time 24 August

    Durham 531-7 dec v Notts 229 & 167-4

Not for the first time this afternoon a Bas de Leede short ball connects with the batter.

This time a lifter hits the shoulder of Matt Montgomery which puts the Notts batter on his haunches.

He rises then sinks down again as physio Phil Tranter retreads a familiar path. A little treatment and he's fit to continue.

Two balls later, Montgomery turns his back to more of the short stuff and is struck again, this time on the helmet and after running a leg bye, the Notts physio is sent back to the middle.

Unperturbed, in fact maybe encouraged, he whistles another past the nose of Jack Haynes.

  3. 50 runs

for John Simpsonpublished at 17:23 British Summer Time 24 August

    Yorks 326 v Sussex 189 & 201-7

John Simpson has been Sussex's most prolific batsman this season and there's another 50 - this one from 129 balls - as he pushes Jordan Thompson to mid-wicket and runs three.

He is only six runs short of 800 runs for the season now and the Sussex lead is 64.

It looks tough. Early on perhaps the ball was a little wide of off stump and allowed the batters to get a sighter. But now these two Essex pace bowlers are on it.

They are asking plenty of questions!

  5. wicket

WICKET Wells b Clark 4published at 17:23 British Summer Time 24 August

    Surrey 444-9 dec v Lancashire 204 & 9-1

Stumps flying. Luke Wells is bowled by one which keeps a smidge low from the pacey Jordan Clark.

    Surrey are in business.

Josh Bohannon is the new man.

  6. Postpublished at 17:22 British Summer Time 24 August

    Yorks 326 v Sussex 189 & 198-7

Another edge - but extra bounce obtained by Ben Coad means the ball flies over the slips and Ollie Robinson collects four runs.

Robinson thumps the next over the bowler's head for four before playing an immaculate forwards defensive shot.

What's next? An attempted cover drive with a huge gap between bat and pad, but Coad's final delivery just misses the stumps.

  7. Postpublished at 17:22 British Summer Time 24 August

    Worcestershire 447 v Kent 171 & 267-5

A couple of looser balls from Adam Finch are given the treatment by Grant Stewart who crunches them back with interest for back-to-back boundaries.

He moves onto 11 from as many deliveries and Kent are just nine adrift of Worcestershire's first innings total.

Tawanda Muyeye has 166, just five fewer than Kent managed in their own first innings.

  8. Postpublished at 17:20 British Summer Time 24 August

    Warks 337 & 130-2 v Somerset 239

Jack Leach strays on to the legs of Hamza Shaikh who guides him through midwicket for four.

A rare loose ball in a tidy, if not dangerous, spell from the visitors. The lead is 228.

  9. Postpublished at 17:20 British Summer Time 24 August

    Surrey 444-9 dec v Lancashire 204 & 9-0

Keaton Jennings picks a short one from Dan Worrall and pulls the ball away to the rope through midwicket.

While the key is sticking around through this awkward mini-session, every run will alleviate some of the scoreboard pressure, slightly... the deficit is now only 231.

  10. Postpublished at 17:19 British Summer Time 24 August

    Hants 1-0 v Essex 438-8d

Quite simply, this is not very fun for Fletcha Middleton and Toby Albert.

Jamie Porter and Sam Cook are two of the very best new ball bowlers in the Championship, and the ball is doing just enough to make them very very difficult to face this evening.

Three maidens in a row from Porter - which included an outside edge along the ground.

Sam Cook has gone for the solitary run, but thought he had pinned Albert in front. Perhaps a small inside edge saved the batter.

If Hampshire can get to the close without losing a wicket, they will be extremely happy. But that is a big if!

  11. 500 up for Glospublished at 17:18 British Summer Time 24 August

    Glos 506-4 v Leics 402

    We've seen that one before.

Another six for James Bracey, whose timing is perfect as he hoists Ben Green for six to square leg.

It follows a boundary to fine leg off the previous delivery which took the Gloucestershire total to 500.

They have scored 273 runs so far today for the loss of one wicket.

  12. Postpublished at 17:17 British Summer Time 24 August

    Warks 337 & 126-2 v Somerset 239

We may have gone a little early with talk of a Bears charge.

Kasey Aldridge is keeping them honest with some disciplined stuff from the Birmingham End, denying Alex Davies any room to free his arms.

A second straight maiden from the Somerset man.

  13. Postpublished at 17:14 British Summer Time 24 August

    Worcestershire 447 v Kent 171 & 256-5

Looks like another nick from Tawanda Muyeye to Ethan Brookes but it drops just shy of Gareth Roderick behind the timbers.

It's been a long stint of concentration from Muyeye and there are hints of fatigue every now and then.

He moves onto 165 from 211 balls by dabbing Brookes into the leg side for a single ro bring Grant Stewart onto strike.

Kent are 20 short of making their hosts bat again.

  14. drinks break

Drinks breakpublished at 17:14 British Summer Time 24 August

    Durham 531-7 dec v Notts 229 & 166-4

Hold on to your hats, Matt Montgomery smacks Callum Parkinson away for a third boundary to move on to 23 from 113 Boycott-esque balls.

It's Bas de Leede's turn to try and break the stubborn resistance of Jack Haynes and Matt Montgomery.

He's changing things up by going round the wicket to Jack Haynes to a legside field.

He gets no change from Jack Haynes who picks up another single before conceding four leg byes as Montgomery takes evasive action.

The deficit is 136 and that's drinks.

  15. wicket

WICKET Carson c Bairstow b Coad 0published at 17:12 British Summer Time 24 August

    Yorks 326 v Sussex 189 & 188-7

Five deliveries is all Ben Coad needs with the new cherry to make another breakthrough for Yorkshire.

It's too much for Jack Carson, who can only edge through to Jonny Bairstow behind the stumps.

Sussex lead by 51 with just three wickets left. This would be a really big win for Yorkshire if they can finish the job.

  16. Postpublished at 17:12 British Summer Time 24 August

    Glos 493-4 v Leics 402

Glorious shot by James Bracey, who lifts a ball from, Ben Green over long-on for his second six.

Graeme van Buuren steers Liam Trevaskis for two successive boundaries before turning the strike over to Bracey, who produces a reverse paddle which runs away fine for four.

  17. Postpublished at 17:10 British Summer Time 24 August

    Hants 1-0 v Essex 438-8d

After 22 dot balls, Hampshire are finally on the board.

Fletcha Middleton works into the legside and takes a single.

In fairness, Sam Cook and Jamie Porter haven't given them much chance to score any runs - it has been miserly.

  18. Play under way at the Ovalpublished at 17:10 British Summer Time 24 August

    Surrey 444-9 dec v Lancashire 204 & 4-0

After a day of rain the south London sky is almost cruelly blue, but there are 22.1 overs to enjoy in the evening sunshine.

Dan Worrall will complete his over with Luke Wells on strike and Keaton Jennings at the opposite crease.

Lancashire are scrapping. Surrey need wickets. Should be fun.

  19. Tykes take new ballpublished at 17:09 British Summer Time 24 August

    Yorks 326 v Sussex 189 & 188-6

It's been an excellent spell by Dan Moriarty, but he drops short and John Simpson pulls for four.

Sussex are just one short of their first-innings total as the new ball becomes due at Scarbados.

    Ben Coad will take it.

  20. Postpublished at 17:07 British Summer Time 24 August

    Derbys 429 v Glamorgan 168 & 176-4

Derbyshire think they have a quick-fire double.

David Lloyd is celebrating with his team-mates as they think Kiran Carlson is caught behind.

Carlson is unmoved and the umpires have a conflab.

It looked out in real-time but the replays show the ball was jabbed into the ground before going through to the wicketkeeper.
