  1. Postpublished at 17:07 British Summer Time 24 August

    Durham 531-7 dec v Notts 229 & 156-4

The defiance continues as Jack Haynes takes a single off Daniel Hogg's 15th over and Matt Montgomery plays out five dots.

The pair have ticked off more than 200 balls for 57 runs.

It may not be the most electrifying cricket you'll ever see, but they are doing a job for Notts.

With plenty of rain forecast tomorrow afternoon, and 22 overs left today, the fifth-wicket pair are grinding out what could be an unlikely draw.

  2. wicket

WICKET Ingram b Morley 53published at 17:05 British Summer Time 24 August

    Derbys 429 v Glamorgan 168 & 176-4

    A breakthrough!

Colin Ingram misses a big slog sweep and Jack Morley sneaks past the bat and cannons into the stumps.

Is this the moment Derbyshire can push for a quick victory?

  3. Postpublished at 17:03 British Summer Time 24 August

    Glos 462-4 v Leics 402

The suffering of Leicestershire's bowlers continues as Gloucestershire make sure of maximum batting points.

Ben Green strays onto James Bracey's pads at the end of another over and is lifted effortlessly over square leg for six.

Bracey is now 161 not out - his 150 came up off 218 balls in the previous over with two off Rehan Ahmed.

  4. Bears on the chargepublished at 17:01 British Summer Time 24 August

    Warks 337 & 117-2 v Somerset 239

We wondered if the hosts would up the pace after tea.

Alex Davies provides the answer as he picks up the fourth ball of Jack Leach's latest over and plants it into the lower tier of the Hollies.

The Bears skipper moves to 78.

  5. wicket

WICKET Finch lbw b Taylor 31published at 16:59 British Summer Time 24 August

    Worcestershire 447 v Kent 171 & 249-5

Tom Taylor gets one to jag back and Harry Finch has to go.

He doesn't like it but it's probably frustration at the end of that 81-run partnership with Tawanda Muyeye.

Is the door ajar for Worcestershire? Grant Stewart strides out to join Muyeye who is on 159 from 196 balls.

25.4 overs remain in the day and Kent are 27 in arrears still. Enough time for the Pears?

  6. wicket

WICKET Hudson-Prentice run out 6published at 16:59 British Summer Time 24 August

    Yorks 326 v Sussex 189 & 179-6

    A bonus wicket for Yorkshire.

Fynn Hudson-Prentice cuts towards third man, he wants a single but is sent back and his dive is in vain as Jonny Bairstow gathers Jonny Tattersall's throw and whips off the bails.

Sussex lead by 42 with only four wickets left.

  7. Postpublished at 16:58 British Summer Time 24 August

    Hants 0-0 v Essex 438-8d

Jamie Porter takes the new conker and begins his work with three looseners outside off stump.

Toby Albert takes an interest in the fourth ball with a hooping drive, which so nearly takes the outside edge.

Two more dots follow. Honours even after the opening over.

  8. Play resumes at Edgbastonpublished at 16:58 British Summer Time 24 August

    Warks 337 & 111-2 v Somerset 239

Kasey Aldridge is to get things under way for the Somerset attack, with Hamza Shaikh facing, as the visitors attempt to make badly-needed inroads into the Warwickshire second innings.

First they must break a partnership which is up to 53.

Shaikh gets things ticking over with a single before Alex Davies collects his 10th four and then closes the over with a two and a single.

Eight from the over - we have 25 left this evening.

  9. Postpublished at 16:56 British Summer Time 24 August

    Yorks 326 v Sussex 189 & 177-5

Yorkshire recall Adam Lyth for another spell of off-spin. They are in a hurry to get to the new ball, which is four overs away.

John Simpson is 35 not out and Fynn Hudson-Prentice has five.

  10. When is a wicket not a wicket?published at 16:55 British Summer Time 24 August

    Durham 531-7 dec v Notts 229 & 150-4

    There's confusion out there.

Callum Parkinson is convinced he has the breakthrough after Jack Haynes drilled the ball off Graham Clark's boot at short leg and into the hands of the bowler.

At least that's what they thought.

After a lengthy discussion, umpires Paul Baldwin and Peter Hartley decide they aren't convinced enough to give it.

Haynes survives to live another maiden. It looked out.

  11. Back under way at Derbypublished at 16:54 British Summer Time 24 August

    Derbys 429 v Glamorgan 168 & 171-3

Kiran Carlson and Colin Ingram are back to eat into Glamorgan's lead.

The pair have already put on 105 together, as Derbyshire's hopes of rattling through to a first home win in donkey's years start to fade a little.

  12. Postpublished at 16:51 British Summer Time 24 August

    Durham 531-7 dec v Notts 229 & 150-4

There's a big conflab involving skipper Scott Borthwick before Daniel Hogg runs in to bowl the 61st over of Nottinghamshire's second knock.

Whatever was said it didn't bring immediate rewards as Matt Montgomery sees out yet another run-free six balls.

Montgomery has made 16 in two hours. Old school stuff.

  13. 17:10 BST start at the Ovalpublished at 16:51 British Summer Time 24 August

    Surrey 444-9 dec v Lancashire 204 & 4-0

Good news at last. We'll have 22 overs of cricket to look forward to this evening.

Surrey will go on the hunt for wickets as they seek to make up for lost time.

  14. wicket

WICKET Charlesworth c Handscomb b Green 210published at 16:50 British Summer Time 24 August

    Glos 447-4 v Leics 402

    Ben CharlesworthImage source, Rex Features

A brilliant innings is finally at an end as Ben Charlesworth drives wearily and is caught behind off Ben Green.

The young left-hander batted for 420 minutes, faced 311 balls and hit six sixes and 21 fours in the first double ton of his career.

Charlesworth added 290 with James Bracey, who is 148 not out as he is joined by Graeme van Buuren.

  15. Postpublished at 16:48 British Summer Time 24 August

    Worcestershire 447 v Kent 171 & 240-4

Disdainful slap from Tawanda Muyeye back down the ground from a short one from Tom Taylor.

He finds the ropes to move to 155 and take Kent within 40 of making the Pears bat again.

Harry Finch has 25 at the other end after a high edge off Taylor is parried but not caught in the slips by Adam Hose.

Their partnership is up to 72 from 152 balls as they trot sheepishly through for a single.

  16. Declarationpublished at 16:45 British Summer Time 24 August

    Hants v Essex 438-8d

Essex don't get to 450 in 110 overs, but Hampshire really should have a third bowling point.

Sam Cook swings, edges and Tom Prest palms it over the crossbar at first slip.

And with that, Essex pull out, therefore not giving their promotion rivals the final two balls to take that elusive wicket, and another point.

A massive 438 on the board for the visitors. Now time for 28 overs to make a dent in Hampshire's batting.

  17. 150 runs

150 up for Nottspublished at 16:42 British Summer Time 24 August

    Durham 531-7 dec v Notts 229 & 150-4

For the second successive time, Callum Parkinson can't get out of an over with a maiden.

He follows five dots by tossing one up and Jack Haynes cashes in with a boundary.

Durham turn to Daniel Hogg. How they must be missing Neil Wagner.

Matthew Montgomery unfurls a lovely drive through the offside for his second four of the innings to take the partnership to 50.

It also brings up the Notts 150 made in a whirlwind (ahem) 58.2 overs and 230 minutes.

But the batters are doing just what the visitors need.

  18. Postpublished at 16:39 British Summer Time 24 August

    Worcestershire 447 v Kent 171 & 229-4

Gorgeous cover drive from Harry Finch off Tom Taylor finds the ropes and takes the keeper to 20 from 73 balls.

Kent's deficit is down to 47 with 31 overs and change to come tonight.

The visitors have certainly decided they are not going quietly into this good night.

  19. Postpublished at 16:39 British Summer Time 24 August

    Hants v Essex 430-8

    This wasn't in Hampshire's script.

They wanted two quick wickets, picking up a bonus point on the way, before getting into their batting.

Instead, Shane Snater has taken the long handle to Mo Abbas to smash a six, and with Sam Cook, they are eying up maximum batting points. They've already put in 44 in 51 balls for the ninth wicket.

One over to get 17 runs. Sounds impossible but Snater can give it a whack...

  20. wicket

WICKET Alsop c Bairstow b Moriarty 61published at 16:37 British Summer Time 24 August

    Yorks 326 v Sussex 189 & 169-5

    A vital breakthrough at Scarborough.

Tom Alsop tries to cut a ball from spinner Dan Moriarty, but gets a top edge.

Jonny Bairstow isn't able to take it cleanly at the first attempt but grabs it one-handed after it lobs into the air.

Great reactions and Moriarty now has 1-29 from 17 overs.
