Another great day of county cricket.

We've seen the top two of Surrey and Nottinghamshire take us towards a tense finish, while Somerset, with centuries from Tom Abell and Kasey Aldridge, have fought back to keep alive their slim hopes.

Leicestershire's batsmen have enjoyed their day against a young Kent attack to edge towards the Division Two title.

We've still got two more days to go in this penultimate round of games when so much can happen.

You can catch up with all the day's action here and we'll see you bright and breezy at 10:00 BST tomorrow morning.

    Leicestershire 459-7 dec v Kent 17-0

  3. Close of play at Derbypublished at 18:44 BST 16 September

    Glamorgan 259 v Derbyshire 17-0

Very much Glamorgan's day but it didn't look like at when Derbyshire had them on the ropes at 99-6.

It was Kiran Carlson, with 94 in company with Timm Van der Gugten, who weighed in with 37 in a 94-run partnership for the seventh wicket, who refloated the innngs.

Luis Reece took 4-67 and Anuj Dal 3-29 but there will have been little feeling of celebration in the home dressing room at their lack of ruthlessness.

Still they reached the close without losing a wicket, Reece and Aneurin Donald making 17-0 at the close and will return with plenty still to play for.

Third placed Derbyshire still have the possibility of closing the gap in the table if rain forecast for the morning does not disrupt too much.

  4. 'James and Patterson-White partnership was excellent'published at 18:37 BST 16 September

    Surrey 173 v Notts 231 & 219-8 - close

    Roland Butcher
Former England batter on BBC Radio Surrey

It's a significant lead for Nottinghamshire, they've played well today. They really had to get their backs to the wall when they lost that sixth wicket after Surrey came out all guns blazing after being bowled out.

It was a disappointing first innings for Surrey because they also got themselves in a very good position and then got blown away.

You expected that they would react with the ball and they did when they picked up five wickets and then the sixth but then after that there was some resolute batting from Lyndon James and Liam Patterson-White.

I think that partnership was an excellent and it took the advantage away from Surrey - if they can get another 20-30 runs, it becomes very challenging.

If the pitch remains as it has been over the last two days then it could be a very exciting finish.

  5. Close of play at Hovepublished at 18:34 BST 16 September

    Sussex 84-4 v Yorkshire 194

The light has closed in at Hove and the second day's play comes to a slightly premature end.

It has been a good one for bowlers with Yorkshire all out in 64 overs as Fynn Hudson-Prentice and Jaydev Unadkat claimed three wickets each.

The White Rose, though, have fought back well, getting rid of Sussex's top order to put themselves right back in the game.

Tom Alsop will resume on 17 not out, with John Simpson yet to score.

  6. Close of play at Leicesterpublished at 18:32 BST 16 September

    Leicestershire 459-7 dec v Kent 17-0

That is that for the day at Grace Road as the umpires take the players off with 7.5 overs of play remaining because of bad light.

Kent openers Ben Dawkins and Harry Finch have done well to prevent any damage after a tough and tiring day in the field for their side.

Promoted Leicestershire maintained a scoring rate of over five runs per over throughout their innings against a largely inexperienced attack in which Corey Flintoff and Oliver Curtiss were making their first-class debuts.

Rishi Patel made a stylish 114 and Shan Masood and Ben Cox both fell in the 90s as the Foxes pressed on to collect maximum batting points before declaring.

  7. Close of play at Old Traffordpublished at 18:30 BST 16 September

    Lancs v Middx 189-8

Balance of power to the hosts after a day which saw Middlesex lose clumps of wickets in pairs.

After a delayed start Lancashire landed combination punches of in two wicket bursts (12-2, 0-2, 12-2 and 18-2) as Middlesex struggled to lay down partnerships consistently.

Tom Bailey was the chief wrecking ball with 4-60 but Tom Apspinwall also deserves credit for his 2-48.

Jimmy Anderson took a wicket but managed just four overs and was absent from the field for some of the Middlesex innings.

  8. 'Surrey know they are in a right old fight'published at 18:28 BST 16 September

    Surrey 173 v Notts 231 & 219-8 - close

    Mark Church
    BBC Radio London commentator

Nottinghamshire, for me now with a lead of 277, are ahead on points. There are still two days of this game to go of course but it means that Surrey will know that they are in a right old fight here.

  9. Close of play at Bristolpublished at 18:24 BST 16 September

    Gloucestershire 65-3 v Northamptonshire 206

Two balls into a Ben Sanderson over and the umpires decide play cannot continue because of the light, ending play for the day.

James Bracey is 18 not out and Ollie Price has 16 for Gloucestershire, who have not found batting any easier than Northants did earlier on.

Saif Zaib continued his prolific season with 76 for the visitors, while Matt Taylor and Graeme van Buuren weighed in with three wickets each.

  10. Close of play at The Ovalpublished at 18:22 BST 16 September

    Surrey 173 v Notts 231 & 219-8

    Quite a day.

Notts put together a fine seam-bowling performance to gain a 58-run first innings advantage.

Matt Fisher completed his first 10-fer in a first class match as he helped reduce Notts to 89-6 in the second dig.

But a fine seventh-wicket partnership of 91 between Lyndon James (47) and Liam Patterson-White (58) wrestled the initiative back for the visitors.

We'll go into the third day with Notts leading by 277 runs with two wickets remaining.

The destination of the title remains in the balance.

  11. Close of play at Edgbastonpublished at 18:21 BST 16 September

    Warwicks v Essex 325-5

A hard day of County Cricket from which Essex will be the happier as they look to safeguard their Division One status.

Charlie Allison survived two drops to make 98 - just missing out on a fourth first-class century of the season.

Michael Pepper's half century was a patient effort from a man used to getting on with things.

Warwickshire battled gamely but weren't helped by three dropped catches in their slip cordon.

  12. wicket

WICKETpublished at 18:20 BST 16 September

    Morgan c Hurst b Bailey 10 (Lancs v Middx 189-8)

Last ball of the day and it is a belter although Seb Morgan clearly does not think he nicked it.

  13. Close of play at Chester-le-Streetpublished at 18:19 BST 16 September

    Durham v Worcs 320-5

Ben Gibbon plays out the over from Shafiq Ghafari as Worcs close the day five down with two bonus points in the bag and a third and possibly fourth begging tomorrow.

Durham night rue the fact they bowled well enough without much reward and certainly Mathew Potts will have luckier days at work.

But the Pears batted with application and no little skill. Rehaan Edavalath (61) and Daniel Lategan (44) looked good, the former unluckily run out by his skipper.

Brett D'Oliveira more than made amends for that with a powerful 84, sharing a 170-run partnership for the fifth wicket with Gareth Roderick who walks off unbeaten on 95.

  14. 'This Notts lead is looking pretty dangerous'published at 18:19 BST 16 September

    Surrey 173 v Notts 231 & 217-8

    Roland Butcher
Former England batter on BBC Radio Surrey

What Notts need is for these two last wickets is to find another 20 runs or so.

That would really set Surrey a stiff target.

  15. 50 runs

50 for Michael Pepperpublished at 18:17 BST 16 September

    Warwicks v Essex 321-5

It's relatively slow by Michael Pepper's standards but a very important innings for Essex.

He goes to 50 from 88 balls with five fours.

  16. Close of play at Tauntonpublished at 18:14 BST 16 September

    Somerset 381-7 v Hants

Kasey Aldridge finishes with a solid forward defensive to Kyle Abbott to bring the close to a day Somerset have bossed.

Superb centuries from both Tom Abell (118) and Aldridge who finishes 149 not out, have turned the day back in the hosts favour from 43-3 when Abell arrived and from 99-5 when Aldridge joined him.

Abell also passed 1,000 runs for the season as Somerset bounced back to take three batting points. The full five will be within reach you would think tomorrow.

They are going to need the pitch to deteriorate from there and Hants to collapse not once but twice.

But that is a possibility. Washington Sundar and Felix Organ both got a tune out of what is essentially a day one pitch.

  17. 'What a tremendous game of cricket'published at 18:13 BST 16 September

    Surrey 173 v Notts 231 & 201-8

    Mark Church
    BBC Radio London commentator

This is an important 4.1 overs.

If Surrey can knock Nottinghamshire over tonight they will know what they have to do - even if they get here tomorrow and it's raining heavily we've still got a day to go after that.

If Nottinghamshire can get through to stumps, whenever they do get back out there, they sort of still dictate it.

What a tremendous game of cricket this is.

  18. Glamorgan all outpublished at 18:09 BST 16 September

    Derbys v Glamorgan 259

Big slog by Andy Gorvin, Rory Haydon judges the catch well and Luis Reece finishes with figures of 4-67 as Derbyshire wrap up Glamorgan's first innings.

Every point they can deny the Welsh county in this game is important - but they still have the big task of winning it following an entire day without play yesterday.

  19. Postpublished at 18:09 BST 16 September

    Leics 459-7 dec v Kent 2-0

Andrew Flintoff has been at Leicester today to watch son Corey make his first-class debut. A tough watch at times for him, we imagine - but there is still a reason for parental pride.

Maybe a consolatory arm round the shoulders a bit later on.

  20. 200 runs

200 up for Nottspublished at 18:08 BST 16 September

    Surrey 173 v Notts 231 & 201-8

    Still the visitors go on.

Surrey have taken two quick wickets but that Notts lead looks formidable.

    It's up to 259 runs.
