150 up for Surreypublished at 13:23 BST 16 September

    Surrey 150-7 v Notts 231

Four byes as the ball swings prodigiously as it goes past the outside edge of Tom Curran's bat.

Worrying if you're Curran the batsman, encouraging if you're Curran the bowler...

  2. Postpublished at 13:23 BST 16 September

    Leics 158-2 v Kent

The boundary count continues to rise at the start of the afternoon session at Grace Road.

Joey Evison overpitches and Rishi Patel eases the ball through mid-on as the Leicestershire shirt total pases 150.

Corey Flintoff thinks he has Lewis Hill lbw at the start of his first post-lunch over but the umpire is not yet in a giving mood.

  3. Back under way at Tauntonpublished at 13:22 BST 16 September

    Somerset 83-4 v Hants

Lewis Goldsworthy (12*) is on strike as Felix Organ spins the second session into life. Tom Abell (10*) is the non striker

  4. Postpublished at 13:19 BST 16 September

    Lancashire v Middlesex 13-2

They are taking lunch at Old Trafford where play was halted by rain after only five overs.

Tom Bailey and skipper James Anderson took a Middlesex wicket each in that brief passage of play.

  5. wicket

WICKETpublished at 13:19 BST 16 September

    Patel lbw b Tongue 4 (Surrey 143-7 v Notts 231)

That looks harsh but Ryan Patel has to go.

Josh Tongue comes bounding in around the wicket and hits Patel on the knee roll.

Up goes the appeal, up goes the finger of the umpire perhaps surprisingly as it looked a touch high.

Doesn't matter what we or Ryan Patel think though.

    Gus Atkinson is in.

  6. Postpublished at 13:14 BST 16 September

    Surrey 142-6 v Notts 231

Tom Curran angles away the first ball after lunch for a single.

Surrey will want a quiet start to this session.

  7. Postpublished at 13:12 BST 16 September

    Surrey 141-6 v Notts 231

We are back out at The Oval.

Can Surrey get close to this Notts first innings total?

Can Notts knock over the final four Surrey wickets cheaply?

    We'll find out shall we?

With the first day lost and an unhappy forecast for tomorrow, it may be that this game becomes an exercise in collecting whatever points are available from a draw.

And to that end, Essex batted responsibly through the morning as avoiding defeat here with a decent haul of points might make them immune from relegation – assuming there is still going to be a Division Two to be relegated into, of course.

Dean Elgar, following up last week’s hundred at Chelmsford, was on security patrol all morning, taking care against Warwickshire’s battery of seamers.

He lost Paul Walter halfway through the session, just at the point where he seemed ready to increase the pace. Walter drove Nathan Gilchrist twice to the extra-cover boundary but in attempting a third to a much wider delivery, feathered an inside edge through to Alex Davies.

Davies shuffled through his bowling options, searching for more wickets to justify sending Essex in, and kept his team rushing between overs to pack in as many as possible. Nobody bowled badly, though all might have hoped to make the batters play more often, but Elgar was not to be led into temptation.

  10. Lunch at Derbypublished at 13:03 BST 16 September

    Derbyshire v Glamorgan 80-3

Derbyshire and Glamorgan reach a belated lunch at the County Ground after the start of play was delayed for half an hour.

It's been a good morning for the third-placed home side, who need to win this game against the side immediately above them in the table to maintain a chance of promotion.

Both Glamorgan openers fell with the score on 13 and Sam Northeast followed in the 23rd over to leave his side on 57-3.

Kiran Carlson is 24 not out and Colin Ingram has 14.

  11. Women's One-Day Cup updatepublished at 13:01 BST 16 September

Lancashire have fought back well after being reduced to 52-4 against The Blaze in their semi-final at Trent Bridge.

The Red Rose are now 173-4 after 41 of their 50 overs, with Ellie Threlkeld 72 not out and Ailsa Lister on 65.

You can follow scorecard updates here.

  12. 'Plenty of problems for Somerset'published at 12:57 BST 16 September

    Somerset 83-4 v Hampshire - lunch

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

No problems with the wind this morning, just a shower which robbed us of another 40 minutes or so.

Plenty of problems for Somerset’s batters though, as four wickets were lost through a mixture of carelessness and poor technique, albeit against some good bowling, from Keith Barker especially.

A hangover from Saturday’s T20 Blast triumph? Physically no, but mentally quite possibly.

    Sussex v Yorkshire 87-2 - lunch

Honours about even on a good pitch at Hove where taking wickets has proved more difficult than the game here against Hampshire last week.

Having won the toss, Yorkshire have made steady progress against steady Sussex bowling but will be frustrated to have lost the wicket of Adam Lyth on the stroke of lunch.

Neither side can afford to lose this game and bonus points will be crucial as both battle to avoid the threat of relegation.

  14. Lunch at Bristolpublished at 12:53 BST 16 September

    Gloucestershire v Northamptonshire 100-3

Honours just about even at the end of the morning session after Gloucestershire won the toss and opted to put Northants in.

Matt Taylor dismissed Luke Procter and Calvin Harrison in the same over and James Sales fell to Josh Shaw, leaving the visitors on 54-3.

But Lewis McManus batted through to reach 43 not out and Saif Zaib - very much Northants' red-ball batting star of 2025 - has 24.

  15. Lunch at Chester-le-Streetpublished at 12:52 BST 16 September

    Durham v Worcs 107-2

Daniel Lategan and Rehaan Edavalath have batted really well to reach lunch with a 58-run partnership for the third wicket and Worcs will be happy with their position.

All the Durham attack have taken a bit of hammer with this pairing finding the boundary 14 times (six for Edavalath and eight for South Africa teenager Lategan).

The match is moving along nicely.

  16. 'Nottinghamshire fighting their way back'published at 12:47 BST 16 September

    Surrey 141-6 v Notts 231 - lunch

    Mark Church
    BBC Radio London commentator

We are all set up for an intriguing session this afternoon.

It really has been a fascinating morning. Notts are fighting their way back into this one.

At lunch Surrey trail by 90 runs.

  17. Lunch at Hovepublished at 12:47 BST 16 September

    Sussex v Yorkshire 87-2

Big breakthrough for Sussex from the penultimate ball of the morning as Adam Lyth drives at a ball from Sean Hunt and is caught behind for 47 via the inside edge.

That is a great take by John Simpson, who had to dive forwards and slightly to his right to take it just above the ground.

Finlay Bean was the first to go for 27, edging behind off Fynn Hudson-Prentice, after Ollie Robinson and Jaydev Unadkat went wicketless in a tremendous spell with the new ball.

  18. Lunch at Tauntonpublished at 12:46 BST 16 September

    Somerset 83-4 v Hants

A good morning for Hants who have had the better of this first session.

Lewis Goldsworthy and Tom Abell have a job to do after lunch, namely putting together the partnership that has eluded the hosts in the first 21 overs.

Keith Barker, with 2-16 from six overs with three maidens, has been the pick of the Hants attack but he has had good support from James Fuller and Kyle Abbott who have picked up one each.

  19. Lunch at Leicesterpublished at 12:43 BST 16 September

    Leicestershire 151-2 v Kent

Rishi Patel leg glances Corey Flintoff for four as a very productive morning for Leicestershire comes to an end at Grace Road.

The Foxes would dearly love to clinch the Division Two title in front of their own supporters this week, rather than Northampton next week.

And Rishi Patel has been close to his best so far, hitting 17 boundaries in his unbeaten 85 off 95 balls.

Kent did get rid of Sol Budinger and Ian Holland, but are still conceding runs at more than five per over.

  20. 100 runs

100 up for Worcspublished at 12:42 BST 16 September

    Durham v Worcs 107-2

Rehaan Edavalath with a lovely punched on drive off Shafiqullah Ghafari for four to bring up Worcs' 100 and the visitors are going along nicely.
