    Surrey 86-1 v Notts 231

Lyndon James is tossed the ball by Notts skipper Haseeb Hameed to see if he can get a breakthrough.

    Four wides isn't brilliant.

Rory Burns flashes at a couple without getting a touch.

The final ball hits the pitch, misses everything, wrong foots Kyle Verreynne and goes between the wicketkeeper and first slip for four runs.

  2. 'Best way to slow Surrey down is to take wickets'published at 11:25 BST 16 September

    Surrey 80-1 v Notts 231

    Roland Butcher
Former England batter on BBC Radio Surrey

If you're playing the waiting game then you're playing straight into the hands of Rory Burns.

He'll just keep picking you off - don't just give him easy runs.

    Leics 66-1 v Kent

    Rishi PatelImage source, Rex Features

Kent have made a double change at Grace Road, with George Garrett and Grant Stewart into the attack. They are still leaking runs, though, with Rishi Patel despatching Stewart to mid-wicket for four - he is missing nothing directed at his legs thus far. He is 38 not out.

    Libby c Robinson b Raine 14 (Durham v Worcs 25-1)

Durham have the breakthrough and this is a great take from Ollie Robinson.

The hosts were shaking their heads after Ben Raine had a very good looking lbw shout on Jake Libby turned down when the batsman had 10.

But he has his man now (with a far inferior delivery as it happens) Libby tickling a leg side ball off his hips and Robinson anticipating well to take the catch diving to his left.

Tribe lbw Reece 7 (Derbys v Glamorgan 13-1)

Asa Tribe has been in brilliant form of late, but there won't be a big score for him today. Luis Reece makes the breakthrough for Derbyshire, his 40th Championship wicket of the season.

  6. Postpublished at 11:16 BST 16 September

    Surrey 73-1 v Notts 231

Rory Burns flails at one outside off stump and gets a big edge to clear everyone and down to the third man boundary it goes.

The Surrey skipper leaves the final ball of the over from DIllon Pennington.

Tom Lawes has now seen off 39 deliveries as nightwatchman at the other end.

  7. Ground 'not released to umpires on day one'published at 11:16 BST 16 September

Somerset 35-2 v Hampshire - rain stopped play

    Kevan James
    BBC Radio Solent commentator

It has emerged that the decision to abandon day one here in Taunton was taken by the Health and Safety officer.

There were frequent gusts of wind to accompany the mix of sunshine and showers.

It’s understood the ground was not released to the match officials, so we never got near the chance of tossing the coin.

Apparently, there were concerns that if the covers had they been taken off, they could injure the groundstaff if caught by a sudden gust.

Back in 2017, during the fifth Ashes test in Perth, the curator was injured when the wind whipped up a cover and knocked him off his feet.

  8. Postpublished at 11:13 BST 16 September

    Warwicks v Essex 34-0

A few plays and misses, particularly from Paul Walter but he's a bit more authoritative with a punch for four runs through the leg side.

Dean Elgar follows with another boundary off Nathan Gilchrist.

Essex will be pleased with this start after losing the toss.

  9. rain stops play

Rain stops playpublished at 11:13 BST 16 September

    Somerset 35-2 v Hants

The rain is falling, the players are departing and the covers are replacing them in the middle which is not great for anyone given how much time has already been lost.

But Hants will be pleased with a couple of breakthroughs early.

  10. Postpublished at 11:12 BST 16 September

    Sussex v Yorks 19-0

First change by Sussex and Adam Lyth has his first boundary as he square cuts Sean Hunt fiercely. Maybe a little bit uppish but there are no fielders there.

  11. 'Very good start for Surrey this morning'published at 11:10 BST 16 September

    Surrey 66-1 v Notts 231

    Roland Butcher
Former England batter on BBC Radio Surrey

Surrey starting the day with one wicket down and are continuing well so far. Rory Burns, as stubborn as ever, is still there.

    Notts need early wickets

    Budinger c Denly b Evison 16 (Leics 49-1 v Kent)

Sol Budinger pulls Joey Evison for an effortless six - but that is his final scoring shot.

The next ball is angled across him - he didn't really need to play at it - and he edges into the safe hands of Jaydn Denly at second slip.

Not the toughest of chances, but the young man will be delighted to have held onto that.

  13. Postpublished at 11:08 BST 16 September

    Surrey 66-1 v Notts 231

Josh Tongue bowls a maiden to Tom Lawes who continues to frustrate the visiting bowlers.

Brett Hutton replaces Dillon Pennington as Notts search for the breakthrough on day two.

  14. Postpublished at 11:07 BST 16 September

    Sussex v Yorks 12-0

After eight overs of excellent, miserly stuff from Sussex' new-ball pair, Finlay Bean finally finds the boundary for Yorkshire with a sumptuous on-drive off Jaydev Unadkat. He'll feel better for that.

  15. 'Not a good start this for Somerset'published at 11:07 BST 16 September

    Somerset 25-2 v Hants

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

It's not a good start this for Somerset.

Batting against Kyle Abbott has looked relatively straight forward and Tom Kohler-Cadmore didn't seem in any great difficulty until he hit that careless shot.

  16. Play to start at middaypublished at 11:07 BST 16 September

    Lancs v Middx

Things have brightened up markedly at Old Trafford and play is set to start at 12:00.

  17. Postpublished at 11:03 BST 16 September

    Derbys v Glamorgan 4-0

A half-hour delay at Derby but the game is now underway, albeit 24 hours late. Luis Reece, joint leading wicket-taker in Division Two with 39, bowls to Zain ul-Hassan, who helps himself to an early boundary.

  18. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:01 BST 16 September

    Lammonby c Brown b Barker 0 (Somerset 25-2 v Hants)

Keith Barker has another and it is another cheap one.

There was not a huge amount of movement if any and Tom Lammonby will feel he might have left that one as it was probably fifth stump outside off.

He has prodded at it tentatively and feathered it through to the gloves of Ben Brown behind the stumps.

It is now 2-8 from Barker.

  19. 'It was a careless shot by Kohler-Cadmore'published at 11:00 BST 16 September

    Somerset 21-1 v Hants

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

What a shame from the entertainment point of view. Tom Kohler-Cadmore looked to the heavens for what was a careless shot.

I think the crowd will be sorrowful a little bit to see him depart because he was looking in great form.

  20. Postpublished at 10:57 BST 16 September

    Leics 38-0 v Kent

Michael Cohen is proving pretty expensive so far - his three overs have cost 21 runs and the latest ends with Sol Budinger punching it through the covers for four.

Another boundary at the start of the next as Rishi Patel leg-glances Joey Evison past the despairing keeper and is 26 not out.
