    Warwicks v Essex 22-0

Essex pick up their first couple of boundaries of the morning although Dean Elgar's is a little more regulation than that of Paul Walter but they're both in the book and no-one will know in the years to come.

There's a bit of swing out there and Warwickshire are pitching it up to try to make use of the early conditions.

    Kohler-Cadmore c Orr b Barker 10 (Somerset 21-1 v Hants)

    Oh dear.

Tom Kohler-Cadmore may have changed into whites but his mindset does not appear to have switched from his barnstorming T20 Finals Day appearance.

That is two boundaries - one straight and one pulled off Keith Barker – but he is out going for a third of the over, pulling a long hop to Ali Orr patrolling no man's land at deepish midwicket.

He is rightly annoyed with himself as that was a giveaway.

  3. Postpublished at 10:54 BST 16 September

    Surrey 60-1 v Notts 231

Josh Tongue forces a false shot out of Tom Lawes.

The Surrey man is pushing into the leg side but gets a leading edge.

The ball falls just short of the slips and they scramble a single from a mis-field.

    Durham put Worcestershire in

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

It's a lovely day in the North East. Perfect for cricket. Who says you shouldn't play in September?

Well, lots of people actually, particularly yesterday when there was no play in eight out of nine games across the country.

The fact is they have played in September as long as I can remember and the weather is often lovely, like today. I can't recall people saying they should not be playing at this time of year last summer. It was shorts and T-shirt weather.

Durham have put Worcestershire in, as you would do after yesterday's rain and they have re-called Will Rhodes.

Colin Ackermann misses out. Since scoring a century in both innings at Trent Bridge at the start of the season, he's only averaged about 13.

Afghan spinner Shafiqullah Ghafari has been given a debut by the hosts. He has played for Richmondshire in the North Yorkshire South Durham league since 2022 and has taken more than 200 wickets.

    Warwicks v Essex 7-0

Quiet stuff to start with at Edgbaston.

    Five overs have gone by.

The home side need wickets and need them sharpish as they are starting a day behind the top two of Surrey and Notts.

We mentioned earlier that Corey Flintoff is making his red-ball debut for Kent today. Here he is after receiving his cap from head coach Adam Hollioake.

    Warwicks v Essex 4-0

    Mike Taylor
    BBC WM commentator

It feels like Olly Hannon-Dalby is slightly moving Dean Elgar around at the moment.

    Glos v Northants 13-0

Luke Procter is up and running for Northants with a couple of early boundaries, both clipped away to square leg. Matt Taylor and Ajeet Singh Dale are sharing the new ball for Gloucestershire.

  9. Looking brighter at Old Traffordpublished at 10:45 BST 16 September

    Lancs v Middx

The skies have lightened in Manchester and the umpires are set to have another look at 11:00.

50 up for Surreypublished at 10:45 BST 16 September

    Surrey 50-1 v Notts 231

A leg bye brings up the 50 for Surrey.

    They trail by 181 runs.

Dillon Pennington and Josh Tongue are finding some movement in the early stages of this second day.

  11. Postpublished at 10:44 BST 16 September

    Sussex v Yorks 6-0

Tight start by Ollie Robinson and Jaydev Unadkat for Sussex. No freebies offered up to Yorkshire openers Adam Lyth and Finlay Bean in the first three overs at Hove.

  12. Postpublished at 10:43 BST 16 September

    Surrey 48-1 v Notts 231

That greenish tinge we had to The Oval track yesterday has faded but it is still present.

Tom Lawes gets off the mark with a back-foot drive for a single.

Half the ground is in shade which is making it a touch chilly for some of those watching today. It's a good day two crowd already.

Lawes gets back on strike and is cut in two by a Dillon Pennington delivery which jags back into him. The final ball goes past the outside edge.

There's still plenty there for the bowlers.

  13. Postpublished at 10:42 BST 16 September

    Durham v Worcs 7-0

Not too many scares for Durham in the first three overs although the final delivery of Ben Raine's second does keep a bit low on Jake Libby.

Fortunately for the Pears opener it finds a thick inside edge and ricochets off his pads to safety.

  14. 'A lot riding on this'published at 10:42 BST 16 September

    Surrey 44-1 v Notts 231

    Mark Church
    BBC Radio London commentator

Surrey picked up three bowling points yesterday and Nottinghamshire will be hoping to do the same today.

Surrey will want to get some sort of lead but Notts will want to keep them as close as possible to 231.

  15. Postpublished at 10:40 BST 16 September

    Leics 17-0 v Kent

Very positive start by Rishi Patel, who twice clips left-armer Michael Cohen through mid-wicket for four and also dabs a boundary down to third man.

  16. Essex chair Mohindru steps downpublished at 10:38 BST 16 September

Essex chair Anu MohindruImage source, Rex Features

Essex chair Anu Mohindru has stood down from the role with immediate effect and also left the board of the club.

Mohindru took over as chair in October 2023, replacing Azeem Akhtar.

Former England and Essex batsman Jason Gallian will now fill the role on an interim basis.

Today's news comes after Mohindru, a criminal lawyer, was disbarred by the Barristers' Tribunal Service over claims he lied about studying at Oxford University.

  17. Postpublished at 10:37 BST 16 September

    Somerset 1-0 v Hants

Groundstaff have been running a rope around the outfield to try and absorb a little more of the moisture so there has been a slight delay to the start of day two at Taunton.

But they are now under way with Tom Kohler-Cadmore clipping Kyle Abbott's first ball off his legs for a single. Archie Vaughan takes strike.

  18. Postpublished at 10:35 BST 16 September

    Surrey 44-1 v Notts 231

One run added to Surrey's overnight total.

You would think Notts' first job this morning is to get rid of the nightwatchman Tom Lawes.

  19. Postpublished at 10:34 BST 16 September

    Derbys v Glamorgan

As we told you earlier, Derbyshire have won the toss at the County Ground and put Glamorgan in.

There is, though a slight delay, with play now set to start at 10:45pm.

  20. Postpublished at 10:32 BST 16 September

    Warwicks v Essex 0-0

    Good morning to Dean Elgar.

Having waiting around all day yesterday, Elgar gets to face the first ball and is clonked right where you don't want to be clonked by Ethan Bamber's first delivery.

A few deep breaths and he's good to go.
